now that i've watched the whole video, one part i found interesting was that habu mentioned talking to kakudo about how he handled the anime. a few months ago in an interview, konaka mentioned that he was interested in writing for video games. i wonder if habu will reach out to him to help out with the next digimon story game.
it's also good to know that story is now being treated as the "main series" as opposed to world. i have high hopes that the next story game is going to be kino because of that. hopefully bamco will give them a bigger budget because of how successful cyber sleuth was in the west.

to be fair, megami tensei laid the foundation for it first. digivices are sort of like comps, and the digital world isn't too far removed from makai/the expanse. digimon also has a full-blown multiverse just like megaten's amala universe.
the big difference is that digimon has taken the science/technology elements from megaten and gone far more in-depth with them than megaten ever did. especially in tamers.

I like the idea of choices determining who lives and dies but there had better be a Golden End where if you work your ass off through multiple playthroughs and bear some insanely difficult conditions you can save them all.

the vast majority of pokemon's revenue comes from its merchandise, not from the games. at this point, they could probably stop making the games altogether and still make a shitload of money off of everything else. there's just no reason for them to do that when tens of millions of people are still willing to buy whatever game freak shits out, regardless of quality.

It's decent, the Appmon have a lot of personality. The choice to CGI the evolved Appmon avoids the Toei QUALITY issue. But it's super heavily MOTW so if you don't enjoy the characters it'll drag pretty heavily.

there is this strange style in the animations which is hard to explain but it is what they were going for. they were trying to make the sequences had "impact" by pausing some seconds of frame to instantly jump to the next frame with the pose so you could feel the strength and also the wide strokes for style reasons. let's not talk about the 3D, is baffling how good it was for appli monster but tri being the OVA got the worse team to work on it

Digimon World 1 is arguably the best Digimon game, gameplay wise, because it has it's own unique gameplay where you raise a single (or two at once in Next Order) Digimon from birth to death and you and your partner have to explore the island and solve the mystery of why the Digimon are going rogue while recruiting some of them back to the Digimon city.
Some people are turned off from the gameplay mostly because they had no idea how to play it when they were kids and evolved their partner Digimon into shitmons, since there are strict stat requirements to evolve into non-shitmons and your Digimon also have a limited lifespan, so if you don't meet any of them, you evolve into a shitmon and then die of old age after that if you can't evolve them into an Ultimate Digimon.

The Digimon Stories games are just generic JRPGS where the battles are turn based and you can recruit multiple Digimon as your party members. It's definitely easier to get into since your Digimon can't die of old age and you can pick what evolution your Digimon evolves to from the menu once you've met the stat requirements.

2 is a grindy rng mess that has a breeding system tha tis simply a worse version of Dragon Quest monster

battles are just basic attacks and ultimates.
Magic is shit, mostly because there are no good magic weapons.
speed is overwhelming the best stat.
the game is almost all padding
the cool card game cant be played if your digimon are too high level/quipped, as card fights and digi battles both run off charisma, with battles being the higher stat check. Thus if you enter a tamer's battle threshold, they wont card battle you.
The translation is hot shit. Example: Guilmon"Talk to my buddy, he knows where that guilmon is" what he's actually saying is the guilmon is his buddy and he knows where he is, you're suppose to talk to this guilmon to learn where to go.

The left is a save playing with leveling each of your mons, right is optimal way. Left is about 3/4 finished, right is at the last quest before Galactimon.

I dunno user, i played all 3 of them when i was a dumb kid, and i simply did not enjoy world 1. It felt obscure and simply not fun to play.
I liked world 2 for its combat, but it felt like the game revolved around trading and the story was pretty meh.
3 honestly blew me away as a kid, it was flashy and it had a ton of special moves. I tried playing it recently and i totally agree, its grindy as fuck and i grew out of those type of games, though content wise i still think its the best one.

If you like exploration games, 1 is wonderful, especially if you dont mind hacing to figure shit out yourself. Not gonna lie it has a lot of flaws, but it's unique gameplay, charming visuals and music, and a solid gameplay loop with unlocking more city things like item shop and restaurant by finding more digis is great.
And yeah I'm replaying the old games right now. just did 3 twice(cause i wanted to see how much faster monmon only was, and it's retarded quick) and currently slogging through 2. 2 is just...holy shit this game takes forever, especially once you hit file island.
