Silent Hill

You are tasked with making the next silent hill game, what do you do

Attached: sk-2017_04_featured_listing_mobile.jpg (768x768, 96K)

remake silent hill 2 ala the re2 remake

Based and big brain pilled

Remake silent hill 3 à la re2 remake

1+3 would be choice

Hire Kojima.

make another movie with a 3D gimmick.

Attached: 1536363745133.jpg (219x290, 13K)

I go to a smaller scale. 1 building, a hospital or a hotel maybe.

You would think an open world is the obvious take, but focusing the space makes the scares and the pacing more efficient.

Advanced AI shit to make silent hill reshape itself according to the player.

Most likely it would find success taking some stuff from RE7 like the 1st person mode. SH4 kinda had the idea but it controlled like shit. Use the fox engine if some miracle Kojimbo is involved. Pretty much borrow everything from P.T. and roll with it.
>no escort parts
>no more fucking SH 2 "inspirations"
>no more Korn

it can be done but dont give the game to european or american developers. Japs are pretty good at doing horror games

sit on it until I die so nobody else can fuck it up

SH2 aged pretty damn well considering, though.
I'd remake Silent Hill 1 first.

Yeah I think you're probably right

>I'd remake Silent Hill 1 first.
I'm with you on this. I would remade the aged ones first.
But SH Shattered Memories was a remake of 1 already.

>remaking any of the original silent hill games
kys
The silent hill games do not need the remake 2 treatment. That would ruin the games

Remake shattered memories

I give 1 the RE2 Remake treatment.

Faithfully remake SH1 with SH3's engine, then proceed to bury the franchise forever.

First: We're going back to the "The town is whatever it needs to be to influence the person that's there" scenario and making that 100% canon. No more demonic boring bullshit. It's a personal game focused on the main character's past, problems and complications.
As for "literally who", considering we've had rather sensitive types as our protagonists thusfar at least in the eastern games, I'd say make the main character a strongheaded cop, who's character development slowly descends into madness when stubborness can't solve his problems and he has to face his, I dunno, maybe he shot a kid by accident, never got caught but fights the guilt on a daily basis? Sounds like a good setup.

that idea sucks you're fucking fired

I will merge SH1 cult and SH2 in one piece.

The appeal of Silent Hill is exploring the whole town, one building would be gay as fuck. You're fired.

Cancel the project immediately.

This

A movie-based Pachinko machine

SH4 disagrees with you. The room is the best part of that game.

Fuck you I like the cult stuff. SH2 niggers need to leave.

Ask for Epic Store for more and more VBucks so i made my well-known franchise exclusive, and then i do the biggest shit ever know, because nobody is going to play it anyways on that platform.

It's literally free money.

Make it into a horror/shooter and call it The Suffering 3

And Del Toro. And Itō.

And I disagree with SH4, so what now faggot?

I set it in a town full of deaf and mute people. It's gonna be all silent too. Turns out a cult decided to try and break a curse by slitting their vocal chords and breaking their hearing and now they are all out to get you too. Before the monsters will come a get you of course, don't make noises in an all qiuet town. Stealth+Survival Horror.

This, More games need Ayami Kojima's art.

Pachinko machines

Competently port 2-4 to PC, as is; and find a way to either port 1 or remake it to PC.

Get the original Team Silent back together if possible. If not then I would just do a remake of 1.

What a novel idea, it just might work

i make a game set in silent hill during the victorian era

cringe

>Shojo Silent Hill
That doesn't sound that bad.

So you want to make a Siren game then. That's what the director from the first SH game did.

The first open world Silent Hill. The "dungeons" are scattered throughout a large and expansive Silent Hill. Progress through the game how ever you want. Many buildings/interesting locations to explore where you can find weapons and uncover lore about the SH universe and the plot of the game. Include a boss rush mode. It should be similar in controls and design akin to the first three games, of course.

I wish I could rape Pyramid Head

I would play the shit out of that.

How does that even work? Silent Hill was just a large native American burial ground back then.

If I had infinite power and time, I'd have Silent Hill 1 remade in an exact 1:1 style, have options for having it look and play exactly as the original, then have options for having it look modern and play like SH3, and I wouldn't release it until I was 100% satisfied so I probably wouldn't ever release it, but the goal would be to make something perfect then put it on Steam, GoG, etc. so as many people as possible could experience one of my favorite games ever.

The scary thing about a proposal like this is 99.9% of people are functionally retarded and think SH2 and SH:SM are good games, thus would just ruin the series further, read this thread as proof.

we take it from here:
18th century
At the start of the 1700s, nearly a century after British colonization of America began, an epidemic swept through the area surrounding Toluca Lake, including the burgeoning settlement that would, in time, become known as Silent Hill.

it was colonized in the 1600s so no.

What is that, a city-building game?

even if it was objectively the worst from Team Silent, SH4's "only one building" appeal was unique... doing it again completely destroys any fun

>focusing the space makes the scares and the pacing more efficient
ugh, you're not thinking Silent Hill right there, Tom

There's no evil in the town at that point though, you'd just be inserting more non-canonical events in to the timeline much like SH:O

Downpoor

>LITERALLY wanting to turn this joke into reality
how can GenZ be this fucking disgusting??

Attached: SH2 remake 2019 v2.jpg (1920x1080, 969K)

there's always been a been a paranormal presence in silent hill.

is silent hill 4 as awful as i remember? played it once like 10 years ago and it's the only game i don't play yearly.
is there any optimal way to play it? i remember the pc port being quite awful.

I think a SH1 remake like the GC remake of RE1 would be cool. But I just know Kornami would just outsource it to the cheapest company like they did with the other SH games

>I think a SH1 remake like the GC remake of RE1 would be cool.
This is literally what just about everyone has asked for all their old games, ever since 2002. But alas, GenZ took over even in the dev circles, and they're now redoing everything in their GoW x RE4 style.
And yes, Jewnami can't do anything right.

But there's no "evil" yet, there's a calming presence about the town, that's it, again you'd just be adding in more shit that goes against established canon.

SH4 is fucking trash don't listen to anyone that says otherwise, it's an unfinished, poorly thought out, frustratingly designed piece of shit.

SH4 is pretty good, don't listen to anyone that says otherwise.

>i remember the pc port being quite awful.
PC port + fixes is actually pretty great now. See the other thread for links:
Still, the PS2 original is pretty much the best choice, though emulation is still shoddy in its case.

God damn I've been craving some Silent Hill lately after watching Jacobs Ladder but I already beat all the good ones.

Should I play 2 or 3 again? I'm leaning towards 3.

Attached: giphy.gif (900x499, 2.1M)

it's uneven
the concept is great, all the stuff in the apartment is kino and it's so effective when your safe space starts getting fucked up. there's some great levels, especially the weird water based prison.

but a lot of it is simply annoying, some of the sound effects are fucking terrible (this is a big deal in silent hill given just how god tier the sound design is in other games) and having to replay the whole fucking thing as an escort mission is not good times

SH4 isn’t that bad. I would say 3 has more replay value though with all the unlockables

Humanity has connected the world of the living to Hades searching for immortality. This has caused an apocalyptic event that transformed the earth and humanity is nearly extinct. The dead are stranded in the living world now, and they seek to consume the living which further destroys the landscape with huge matter/anti-matter explosions. The dead come with the rain which i is lethal now as it rapidly ages anything it touches, so you have to stay covered up. You have to traverse the ruined continent trying to reunite the remnants of civilization, while trying to avoid the dead which can only be detected by an artificial fetus, because it is trapped between life and death. If you die you have to escape from Hades, where your father roams as an optional boss. In the end it was all a coma dream.

>We're going back to the
faggot silent hill 1 established the cult stuff out of the fucking gate. it's canon, stop crying and get over it. there's nowhere to go 'back' to because your idea of silent hill never existed. just because 2 has a different perspective doesn't make it suddenly no longer canon. that shit is even referenced in 2. god you're a fucking moron.
your idea is also by-the-numbers garbage. another 'random dipshit walks into silent hill and sees spooky personal shit' is overplayed as FUCK and every pseud keeps suggesting it like they've come up with something original. you're rehashing SH2 over and over. changing the protagonist to someone tough (which they already did, twice) doesn't change a fucking thing.
your setup is awful and all the shit spinoff games were made by clueless faggots exactly like you. fuck off back to /r/eddit with all the other limp wristed hipster faggots who latched onto the series after the fact.

I could never get into 4 with all the back tracking. Should I give it another chance?

Try it out. The levels aren’t that long so I was never that bothered with having to revisit them.

A few set of rules:

>Focus on 1, not 2
I know that a lot of people think SH2 is kino, but the one that served as an inspiration was 1. Devs started derrailing the series after 2, because they were trying to copy a style that worked because it had a stronger than noticed influence from its predecessor.

>No mass market appealing
Konami's intervention probably helped SH1 more than we think, but today's market is much bigger, and their guidelines would be completely crap

>Focus should be characters
Doesn't matter how interesting our story is, if players don't care about the characters why would they care about them being afraid? Psychological terror works at full potential when you start wondering about people's emotions.
This doesn't mean "make the characters attractive", no. They have to be realistic, with little to no exaggerations, and their intentions shouldn't be obvious.

>Music
We need young people experimenting with the music, Yamaoka should be an advisor. We all think he's amazing, but... he's older now, doesn't have that same "visionary" style, that characterized the first games' score. Part of the appeal was the use of non-conventional sounds or tools, which should be in the hands of a new breed

>Influences
Hours and hours and hours and hours of studying Team Silent's influences, in a proper way. Movies like A Clockwork Orange, Jacob's Ladder and reading and discussing Stephen King, James Ellroy, Lovecraft, Hemmingway (to an extent), etc...
There is so much atmosphere in most of those works that not studying them would be retarded.

Small contained story
No cult aside from some obscure references
One character with a variety of side characters
Third person gameplay, over the shoulder, similar to a mix between Shattered Memories and Resident Evil 2 Remake
More abstract, less humanoid, warped monster design
Moving somewhat away from the Rusty, Grate, Bloody Aesthetic, towards something more like 4. It would still have the evil red world, but it would also have the more natural, infested/waterlogged feel of Silent Hill 4.
5. It would be more emotional. Silent Hill would be more of a backdrop, a living breathing force, to provide the setting for a dramatic story, similar to Silent Hill 2.
6. No hamfisted/bad writing like Silent Hill 3. The story will have sparse encounters with other humans, will be spent almost entirely alone, and characters will be grounded. The game would be very serious.
7. Less re-used locations. I've always thought a ship or massive ferry docked at the lake would be a great location, a bookstore that has a passage to a massive underground maze, etc.
8. More exploration and buildings that can be opened, along with some very rare side quests, kind of like Downpour.
9. Akira Yamaoka soundtrack work, no external bands for music/themes (Like the Korn track in Downpour)
10. Morally grey protag

>I could never get into 4 with all the back tracking. Should I give it another chance?
certainly.
I've never quite understood the complaints of "backtracking" when it comes to SH4. It's quite like re-doing the areas in the previous games, when you go to the "otherworld" versions of the locations.

Dunno why I started numbering halfway through, I'm a little retarded

>people wanting a remake of the first 4 games

Attached: 1531817157608.jpg (480x480, 29K)

>silent hill 2

She's in the trunk.

Go back in time and stop the cancellation of silent hills. Let kojima and del Toro do gods work. Or just buy the silent hill IP and gift it to kojima productions.

Attached: 1559232028307.jpg (501x523, 34K)

Why remaking Silent Hill 1 is a mistake: It's already terrifying as it is due to the graphics, the shitty animations of the monsters, and the creepy and unnerving music

>tfw still haven't completed it even after all these years

Imagine not wanting a remake for the greatest game literally ever created, SH2
SH1 would be amazing, as would 4, but 3 isn't that good

SH1 could use a remake. The game's not horribly ugly or anything, but it is dated as hell, and there's a few small things that should probably be tweaked.

It'd need to be a high quality remake that isn't co-oped by some retard artist that wants their own vision for it or some bullshit, making sure it has the same feel and look scene-by-scene.

>doing it again completely destroys any fun
Sure, people hated PT. ¬¬'

>SH1 could use a remake.
no it couldn't

that wasn't even a full stage

>the greatest game literally ever created, SH2
that's not SH1.
And even it does not *require* a remake. It would just finally shut up the whiny graphics-fags.

>We're going back to
It's both though. If anything "God" only exists in the way she does because the cult is full of witches that want her to exist, and the town is just calling up demons to create her and her underlings.

Make a prequel, way the fuck back, like, back during the great depression and have it be about people in the mine, and how the cult is fucking with the ancient power there.

You don't need to like what I like, so it's ok if you don't give it another chance.

Yes it was. They made it as a stand alone demo with no connection to what would have been Silent Hills.

>Bound to consoles with buggy ports unless emulated
>Art and aesthetic hold up, but graphics and cinematics certainly don't
>Controls are incredibly dated
>Quite a few bugs in any version
It could.

no it couldn't

Attached: 1550845299182.jpg (2500x2500, 417K)

Even if it was a full stage, it doesn't prove that SH fans would have loved playing in the same area for hours.
*Reminder that PT was mostly played by streamers and people who liked Downpour*

Remember your favourite film? Do you want it remade with new actors and director?

I think the game is more unsettling with those cinematics.

I don't know why do you think a single setting needs to look or feel the same, or be small.

>>Bound to consoles with buggy ports unless emulated
so just emulate it?
>Art and aesthetic hold up,
literally all that matters.
especially the audio design is top notch.
>Controls are incredibly dated
just end your life now, casual zoom.
>Quite a few bugs in any version
such as?
I've played two versions of SH1 on like 5 different systems, and I do not recall a single bug.

Not him, but my favourite film is being remade. I could always watch the original if I don't like the remake. Is not like they are destroying the old copies.

>especially the audio design is top notch.
The audio design is buggy in every iteration outside the PS1. So yeah, needs a remake.
>such as?
See above.

>The audio design is buggy in every iteration outside the PS1
Like how?
I've played SH1 on PS1, 2, 3, PSP, and like half a dozen different PCs since 2003. There's nothing wrong with audio.

I'm not saying it can't be small, but it has to be varied. Silent Hill is about a town. Not an apartment. Even in 4, where the appeal was explicitly "the room", you end up roaming outside of the building
The idea was that the room was serving as a portal, not a playground.

I didn't want the setting to be the same during the whole game. Even The Room was changing while you advanced in the game.

I have problem with sound on android epsxe.

Absolutely love Pyramid Head's design. To this day its my favorite monster design. It is pure perfection.

I hope that does not include the shitty film version.

I like just about all his designs out there so yeah including the film one even though I only saw the first movie.
