Why was the modern warfare trilogy so good?

Only CoD4 was REALLY good. MW2 and 3 were...alright but not that memorable.

It was the first michael bay-like game with intriguing setpieces and comfy online when you could still talk to randoms on mic and right before the internet became full normie. By the third one though it had overstayed its welcome and started to get formulaic so it's good they ended at 3

I played a pirated version for reference. I think they only added cosmetic trash in later games, where you actually had to buy them with real money. Cosmetic stuff was fun to unlock in MW2. The other things are pretty minor in my opinion, but sure.
