Doom is up there but I'd say Pac-Man and Super Mario Bros 1 are more influential

BotW. From this point on, every open world game will be judged by the standard it set.

Wolfenstein 3D
Street Fighter 2

Wolfenstein 3D is more influential to the shooter genre outside of the idea of associating shooters with metal music.

Pong
Space Invaders
Pac-Man
Ultima
Super Mario Bros.
The Legend of Zelda

Those are the 6 most influential games of all time BY FAR. Doom is arguably 7th.

Wolf 3-D was really not as influential as Doom. Being innovative doesn't necessarily make something influential.

Most Western games nowadays are basically some combination of current year Doom + Daggerfall.

Is GTA III up there?

Attached: IMG_20190529_164729.jpg (540x467, 17K)

Doom is more directly influential than Wolfenstein. Like, everything from DirectX to Xbox to Valve to Deathmatch to Modding etc all have Doom to thank.

Wolfenstein was a tech demo that was outdated in less than a year.

Super mario bros.

Yes, critics came together & made a official list for the most influential games back in 2007
> 1. Super Mario Bros
> 2. Tetris
> 3. Civilization II
> 4. Ocarina of Time
> 5. Super Mario 64
> 6. Half-Life 2
> 7. Super Metroid
> 8. A Link To The Past
> 9. Final Fantasy III (VI)
> 10. Resident Evil 4
> 11. StarCraft
> 12. TIE: Fighter
> 13. Ms: Pac-Man
> 14. Sid Meier's Pirates
> 15. Castlevania SOTN
> 16. Shadow of the Colossus
> 17. Super Mario World
> 18. Chrono Trigger
> 19. Doom
> 20. Metal Gear Solid
> 21. X-Com: UFO Defense
> 22. System Shock 2
> 23. Super Mario Kart
> 24. Street Fighter II
> 25. SimCity 2000
> 26. Half-Life
> 27. Star Wars KOTOR
> 28. WarCraft II
> 29. Dragon Quest
> 30. Metroid Prime

Unreal (the engine at least if not the game)
Long
Space Invaders
Pac-Man
Mario (to an extent)
Zork
Angband

Minecraft hasn't yet but I think it's up there in the most influential games, I think we're seeing a lot of impact on the gaming industry based on what minecraft revealed about the coming generation's interests, the first battle royale was a minecraft plugin for instance
to a lesser extent, world of warcraft/overwatch/hearthstone all annihilated any hope of their respective genres ever being good again, and the binding of isaac brought us roguelite cancer

This definitely helped save the video game industry, but I wouldn't call it the most influential. Most games nowadays aren't 2D platformers.

Doom had mouse look, multiplayer and actual level design instead of mazes

Replace StarCraft with Doom & i would agree with this list

that list is ridiculous and you know it

This list is so fucked that I don't even know where to start.

>and actual level design instead of mazes
Let's not kid ourselves, Doom was mostly mazes too.

Based

Absolutely BTFO'd

>doom below shadow of the colossus and ms. Pacman
Also why the fuck is ms. Pacman on there and not pacman? Doom being below pacman i would understand

Dragon Quest maybe. It depends on if western developers have made more FPS games than Japan has made JRPGs.

SoTC influenced more modern games than Doom has, being first doesn't mean anything when Developers take influence from the latest & greatest game

Hardly. The levels had exploration, which is easy for people to misunderstand and think is maze-like.

Attached: 1552787000874.jpg (1000x1131, 353K)

That's a good list.

Agree, only hipsters will disagree. The only major game that is missing is GoldenEye 007 since it is the Doom of Console FPS games

I feel like GTA3 needs to be on this list.

these guys have no idea what they're talking about. a link to the past that high? zelda 1 not even on the list? doom that low?

>what exactly did SotC influence more than Doom did?

Still seething i see, getting BTFO'd by actual experts as opposed to shitposting basement dwellers of Yea Forums must hurt

>Half Life 2 more influential than Half Life 1
>More influential than Doom
>More influential than Pong

Yes, not nearly as important as you boomers have convinced yourself to be.

HL2 literally created the movie game trend that all AAA games follow

>Pong
>Super Mario Bros
>PAC Man
>Donkey Kong arcade
>Super Mario 64
>Crash bandicoot
>Zelda 1
>Castlevania
>Mega Man
>Metroid

I can think of a lot of games as influential and important as doom

>BotW

Attached: 1558761249318.jpg (640x539, 44K)

Attached: 749.jpg (973x1002, 143K)

The only thing HL2 did that HL1 didn't in terms of influential mechanics is have a female companion that fights with you occasionally.

The most successful games nowadays tend to be first person sandboxes with some open world Bethesda dumped on top, though. Even Metroid is basically a first person shooter, now. And Zelda turned into a Bethesda product.

>standard it set.
>BotW
>BotW made a standard
Fucking zoomers LMFAO!

Attached: 1552979891474.jpg (1087x1080, 112K)

From this point forward, an open world game that doesn't let you climb every surface or have advanced chemistry interactions will feel outdated.

Skyrim is more influential than Doom, since everything is a open world RPG. Same with Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect & Chrono Trigger. Every game has multiple endings, a dialogue system, tailing missions & Ubisoft towers

Vanilla Doom didn't have mouselook you misremembering dolt

Replace Skyrim with Daggerfall and you'd be sort of correct.

OMG PFFT HAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Yeah it's the highest rated game of the century
> Times listed as a Top 2 Game
> 1. Ocarina of Time (75x)
> 2. Final Fantasy VII (19x)
> 3. Super Mario Bros (17x)
> 4. Super Mario 64 (16x)
> 5. A Link To The Past (15x)
> 6. Super Mario Bros 3 (13x)
> 7. Chrono Trigger (13x)
> 8. Breath Of The Wild (12x)
> 9. Tetris (12x)
> 10. Dark Souls (11x)
> 11. Super Mario World (10x)
> 12. Super Mario Galaxy (10x)
> 13. SoulCalibur (8x)
> 14. The Legend of Zelda (8x)
> 15. Half-life 2 (8x)
> 16. NieR: Automata (7x)
> 17. Super Mario Kart (7x)

>Yeah it's the highest rated game of the century
FOR FUCKS SAKE NIGGER HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Attached: 1555329529854.png (128x128, 29K)

Here are games that I'd consider to be the most influential
>DOOM
>Super Mario Brothers
>Halo
>Dark Souls
>Dota/League (Argue about which you fucking moba fags)
>WoW
>Minecraft
>Fortnite/Pubg
>Street Fighter 2

Attached: 1557395941406.jpg (474x535, 31K)

No they won't, the latest Farcry and Assassin's will be the exact thing it's been for over a decade, with completely static, pointless environments and no use of creative problem solving and still get 10s and 9s every yearly release for the foreseeable future.
When yearly shovelware is runner for GotY you konw quality is irrelevant.

Literally just following Pitfall's influence.
You can't say SMB and leave out Pitfall I don't know why all these lists act like it doesn't exist. Nintendo bias I guess.

Fuck off zoomer

Faggot

Attached: 1557915240727.gif (100x100, 23K)

I know not all of them are games you fags are going to like, but this isn't "Best games of all time" just the most influential

So every open world game will strive to have easy gameplay and terrible item and enemy variety in a soulless over world with nothing to do in it?

Attached: 1555555251523.jpg (520x694, 79K)

Selling well doesn't make them influential, dumb zoomer.

Sales does not make a game good zooms

Attached: 1552433626650.png (327x316, 211K)

Look at the games I've listed, each of them vastly redefined or created entirely new genres or set the bar as the example for what their respective genres should be. How many WoW clones did we see when it exploded? How many cheap chinese mobas and minecrafts were created? Literally every company jumped at the chance to make a battle royale after PUBG's and Fortnite's success.

>Look at the games I've listed
Shut the fuck up zoomer

Your thinking of freelook where you can aim anywhere. In vanilla you could turn left and right with the mouse. That is called mouselook

Attached: 1552176822221.png (756x900, 59K)

Some are AS influential. Namely Street Fighter 2.

retarded memeface posters

>Just mad because he can't aim for shit
Git gud faggot.

You need to look the up the definition of influential. A bunch of greedy jews trying to steal some profit from another company by copying their game isn't it.

ex dee meme

Faggot.

The literal most popular genre nowadays is glorified Deathmatch, which was basically started by doom.

For fucks sake, the founders of Epic games started at ID working on Doom.

Attached: 1553846845094.gif (250x308, 1.88M)

Dude, I love Castlevania, but it doesn’t have more of an impact on games than Doom.
