On the one hand, I can legitimately say that it was one of the last real RPG experiences I've had in so long, the options for completing things, the amount of shit to find, steal, quests to do, all that shit.
The problem I had was the writing, not the least of which was that literally the ending was so bad and so messed up that I had party members giving me shit in the epilogue over things that never happened because the character they're mad over I actually killed but the game decided I didn't.
So here's my conundrum: Larian is a really good developer, they make lots of content, big worlds packed with shit to do, and real RPGs. But WotC can't write for shit anymore based on their last Baldur's Gate project, and it's only gotten worse as a company since then so there is 100% chance they'll force some SJW garbage and Tumblr writing on the game.
So I'm not sure if I can be hyped?

Honestly, it was really stupid because I killed Dallis, Lucian, and Braccus in the final fight and then purged the source from everyone because it seemed like the best option. the game plays an epilogue that says Lucian returned and everyone loved him and Dallis was his assistant. And Ifan acted as if we didn't just kill the dude and I didn't get a fucking quest notification of his quest complete during the fight.
Basically the ending was stupid and fucking sucked, especially when there's this twisting and turning of which faction is supposed to be good and which is bad all the way to the end. First the Seekers are literal Nazis and we have a Paladin friend to help fight them, then the Paladins are evil servants of Evil God, and then we've got a guy telling us the Seekers are traitors and shit and, then at the end I'm supposed to think the people I've been hunting all game are good guys but they're also bad guys because they've got the old Evil King? It fucking makes no sense.

I'd say that Irenicus is not filler. Though he's an "outsider" to the Bhaalspawn thing, he's still deeply involved in the MC:s character development as a Bhaalspawn. The story of BG2 is about a godling finding out about his powers, and Irenicus is a crucial antagonist for driving this plot development. Without Irenicus, the MC would not have unlocked his heritage or been motivated to pursue it.

Out of all of those game I guess I am only vaguely excited for BG3 and Cyberpunk 2077. I wish to be excited for Bloodlines 2, because Mitsoda seems to know what he's going (and he famously disregarded V5 so it gives me hope), but their writing team scares me. The senior writer lady especially. She seems strangely obsessed with pronouns.
I still trust Larian and CDPR (patriotic pride I guess) and I hope they won't fuck it up.
I have yet to watch a single episode of GoT, but I love all the memes that the last season has brought.
