I have like 200 ping right now but don't want to pay to switch servers and I'm kind of sick of tanking. Is SAM a good choice for high ping DPS? I want to do either that or MCH.

Using an ogcd can clip the animation of your gcd. This delays your gcd action and lowers your dps. The optimal action is to weave a ogcd between a gcd. Sometimes you can use two ogcds between gcds, double weaving, but if you’re bad or your ping is bad, it can clip the gcd and cost you dps.

The absolute WORST part of the healer changes is that there's no way they will up the healing requirements because 95% of the mouthbreathers wouldn't be able to clear any content. So we have more healing tools, a more boring rotation but the fight design will stay the same.
You get to utilize your full kit twice in two years with the Ultimates, if we even get them.

By virtue of being melee and almost all of its skills being "instant cast" it's not as optimal as BLM for someone with 200 ping.

GOD imagine rescuing people when they're doing this while they're still running. Just helping them along, of course and they keep running and fall.

Release ast was fine, it got overbuffed, it was meant to be an inbetween of whm and sch not to replace both which is what it does now. That was the whole reason it had shorter GCD and less mp costs.

I finally got around to gearing up my gatherers for the first time in a year so I'll have something to do while sitting in queue. The healing changes are so bad that I'm just going to fall back onto DRG and SMN.
Might be 60-minute queue times but damn at least I'll be making money.

Release AST was not fine. 3.2/3.3 was the sweet spot, when the toolset was unique enough to be a more risky pick away from WHM, but bads continued to tell everyone AST was bad (the stigma never went away) and then they overbuffed it in 3.4.

Again, the problem is the overabundance of ogcd heals. If every healer had the majority of their strong heals on the GCD, there would be an actual balance of dealing damage and doing heals, instead of the current heal-weaving structure we have now.

Its not just about feeling 'more useful' than a DPS. If you wanted to play a useful DPS you'd play a tank. Healing at least in XIV isn't spammy, but instead rewards preparation.

As SCH every fight is different due to being able to know when to adlo for that tank buster, when to succor for that big dick aoe and knowing when you're free to dps, it's interactive and fun, every other healer is just a bore stood around waiting to heal something, you never have downtime as sch cause you can make fights go way quicker with your skills, you should try sch whilst you still can.

It's surprising that barely anyone notices this. As though they completely missed the fact that most damage in this game is avoidable in the first place, or getting hit by something is a OHKO anyway. Healers just barely fit into the "Move to the correct spot or die" paradigm this game is based on, they could seriously be replaced by a potion/cart system. They only exist because the game is still ultimately a FF title, and people would badger them endlessly for lacking a healing class (Even though WHM is historically the only pure healer. Everything else with heals was usually a hybrid of some sort).

The only option I can see them doing at this point is drastically increase the amount of Raid-wide, unavoidable damage to justify the constant healing. However, that would mean far more stack/spread markers on top of whatever mechanics DON'T deal damage upon successful movement. Otherwise, there's still too much downtime for healing to be an absolute requirement, especially when compounded with the fact fights are 100% scripted anyway.

It has great appeal in pugs since you can carry extremely hard as healer. I've come back from wipes with only one other tank alive when doing Shinryu at 4.0 all the time. If I were not a healer and my party sucks I just have to /shrug and say "guess I'll die."

I've never felt this when playing savage and I can imagine ultimate being more healing intensive. I try to map out ogcds sure but usually I have to apply regens or succor/tactics somewhere. I've never cleared a fight exclusively on ogcds.

People notice it, there is just a major problem with the healer player base now. DPSing has been a focus for SO long that most healers don't even like the idea of having to heal and shriek when they have to imagine losing their tiny dps buttons. The fact that "Dpsing as a healer is going to be so boring now" is a more prominent complaint than "Healing in this game is boring and not fulfilling at all" is a major problem.

Because SCH is the only one that had Indom on a 30s cd and Lustrate on a short cd compared to Essential/Tetra, and that's only a step to what I propose. Less AoE heals, more single targets, maybe a penalty on healing 8 men over 4 men so AoE heals stop being hyper efficient over single heals. More 15-30s cds. More random dodge mechanics that you'll get hit by 30% of the time. Otherwise healing is just going to be the same shit as now, pre-emptive instead of reactionary nearly 90% of the time.

I've been healing since Binding Coil and so I've experienced both ends of the paradigm. I wouldn't mind going back to the ARR style of exceedingly frequent cleaves and tankbusters, where doing damage while healing had an actual risk-vs-reward component to it.

Truth be told I don't think this is a game for you but the trial is free up to level 35 for all available classes and has no expiration date. Game gets better and better beyond that of course but it's not a bad sampling.

So even though mana management was a joke that entire expansion healers still always had to be ready to actually heal since 99% of their toolkits was hardcasted GCD heals. In XIV right now healers are the opposite and thus they can often afford to heal by just dropping oGCDs between damage spells.

WHM lilies should have worked by giving you an action with a 90s CD that gives three of them to you at once. Then all of the Afflatus spells could be on their own separate GCD that can be weaved in between your Glare casts.

All the fights that really matter require it. Damage is unavoidable in raids and it's beyond what even perfect DPS/tank players can mitigate.
I don't mind having lower DPS if it ultimately helps the team.
I like helping people, and my IRL friends that I started the game with chose DPS and tank classes as their starters.

I don't like RNG, but I'd really like if SCH got a stacking DoT as a filler. Give them a DoT called Prolonged War or something that is kind of weak but can be stacked like 5 times, and you're encouraged to let it never fall off or you have to redo all 5.

Every healer coming from WoW is going to fall asleep since instead of constant raid healing they just need to press a few off global cooldown instant nuke heals every minute and can faceroll everything else, WoW encounter design is very different because there aren't unlimited in-combat resurrections so rather than just fucking up and going from 100-0 and being raised with a penalty the raid spends much more time at low health and in need of constant attention to stay alive, similarly death is an enormous setback whereas in XIV it only matters if the loss in stats result in enrage

The average WoW player is a braindead moron who still forgets to defend farm/stables in Arathi Basin a decade later but he's still miles ahead of the average NA FFXIV player

it's not a gross exaggeration for scholars though due to shields and fairy
there is a LOT of downtime to dps
and they went and neutered the dps skills but made the already-busted healing kit even stronger

As a SCH main since ARR who also played since 1.x Beta. I enjoyed SCH for the heal aspect and the overall lore of it, sure the dps aspect of all the dots, even thunder/aero once upon a time but it wasn't that entertaining felt more of a chore to me in that aspect. I wanted to be the one in the groups saving everyone from dying. Not too fussed with only having one DoT and a aoe or single target skill for damage. So don't say nobody is happy about this, you can't speak for everyone.

I don't think I'm going to keep the red highlights, it looked good for DRK but the tips of the ears being effected bother me.

As Scholar you can heal most dungeons without ever using a single hardcasted heal. Fairy and oGCDs are more than enough outside of very large pulls but guess what tanks can use their own defensives to survive those and we're cucked by stupid walls and gates in every Dungeon now anyways

In raids hardcasting heals is even more worthless, just place the fairy in the center of the room and indom on cooldown.

mitigation is pretty much the healer's job, it's a minuscule part of tank's toolkit therefore it should never be a priority and you shouldn't use it

no, the job of the tank is to absorb the hits
the healer takes care of the tank not dying
a healer's job is to ensure the party will survive a determinate encounter, by making the fight shorter you're essentially reducing the damage the tank takes therefore by dpsing you're actually mitigating and shielding the tank

I played the game for a months with all expansions
got a warrior to 60, blm and bard to around 55, played a bit of sam too when I got to 50 with my warrior main, then a nin up to 40, really enjoyed each of them.
but then I started getting into crafting, so I got both min/bot to 50, and ALL crafting jobs to around 35-40. it was soul crushing but I think I liked it.
I dont know if I should come back. that was around 6 months ago.

If you know encounters typically you know when its safe to let the party or tank regen rather than burst heal. I see WAY too many healers use Medica II then follow up with a Medica or spot heal when there isn't another roomwide AoE for like 30-60+ seconds. Not topping off a DPS might result in their death due to an avoidable mechanic, but thats their fault not yours.
