It's time to discuss the best RPG ever made

Ok, so what's your favourite great house? Mine is obviously Redoran, since I'm not a backstabbing faggot of fancy pants magic caster.
Morrowind is shit compared to Gothic
Daily reminder that PB has been bought by THQ Nordic.
It won't matter if that clown Bjorn Pankratz will still be in charge of the games
Any tips for someone interested in a wizard build?
*kills the entire genre with Elex*
get ready for getting raped early game
Gothic 1 is the better game in my opinion, I prefer the atmosphere in 1 a lot more, though DNDR content comes pretty close in terms of quality and pirates were always a favorite of mine
Though 2 is maximum comfy, though really only before going back to the mining colony
Those seeker fucks creep me out to this day
Use dex weapons early on since they have low requirements and you won't get far with only spells
Especially that one rapier thing you can get from the harbor master with like 120 damage for 60 dex requirement, crazy strong
I wish they would drop the whole medieval scif-fi thing and just go way back
>tfw like Telvanni the most but hate the stronghold
first of all, you will still need a melee skill. It's probably doable to be an only-magic guy later on, but early on nah no way. So invest in 1 hand or 2 hand as well, besides you can easily get 100 % in a combat skill from NOTR tablets, 5 % from the the books from upper quarter guy, and there's weapons that give 5 %.
recommended spells: fireball, lightning, small fire storm, summon goblin, skeleton, demon, army of death, wave of death, holy missile. More if you want, but i always loved these. Raise your mana obviously
Only played Redoran and Hlaalu.Telvanni is there for rainy days
oh, if you mean Gothic 1 - it's more or less the same, just different spells. Ball Lightning is great because it stuns enemies. Although in Gothic 1 i found myself going for the magic ore sword every time towards the end
I always liked Diego's house. It has a nice design. Well it wasn't technically his but you know what i mean
>JRPG
>actual RPG
One day you'll grow up.
Is there anything more cucked than joining Redoran when you're the Nerevarine?
have you ever played it?
>krautshit
Yes. SMT and Persona games are not RPG's, and neither are other JRPGs. They do not belong in this discussion.
why would that make you cucked?
how tf are jrpgs not RPGs?
What are the requirements for an RPG that SMT doesn't meet?
For me it's House Telvanni; intelligent, nihilistic and with a wicked sense of humor
I wasn't a fan of Redoran's stronghold either. Hlaalu's had the best location hands down iirc it's right next to Balmora.
There's a fundamental difference in how roleplaying is defined by Japanese and how it is compared to western games, where they're rooted in D&D. Making choices, building your character class. Not anything like using a self-insert character with the ony option being a custom name, that shit is nothing.
Gothic 3 holds up very well actually.
How is Gothic an RPG then? You can't even choose the hero's name.
Hell, Gothic 2 is probably my favourite game of all time, but making the RPG definition based on customizability is kinda silly. A ton of JRPGs have more customizability than Gothic.
Gothic 2 Steam/GoG patching guide with graphics mods
Download this and install in the correct order (readme). Game won't work properly without these.
mediafire.com
Then download this and extract to the "system" folder in your Gothic 2 folder
gothic-dx11.de
This makes the graphics a lot better and fixes performance
then if you want to make the graphics even better also download and install this by extracting to your Gothic 2 folder
moddb.com
Notice anything?
RPG means you have different choices such as dialogue and how to approach quests and NPCs.
This is literally the only fucking definition of RPG and nothing else.
meh...can you stop with this semantics debate bullshit ? Who gives a fuck. It's a 3rd person RPG, leave it at that
Man, this one takes me back.
That there's hundreds of those lists and every single one of them is completely different which means that it doesn't mean shit?
>2008
trash.exe
i notice that more than half of these dont EVER get threads on Yea Forums. Gothic has constant threads though
>A ton of JRPGs have more customizability than Gothic
You're delusional. Yes, you can't choose his name, but at least the game isn't on fucking rails. Just being able to choose your own guild is already more narrative freedom than most JRPGs give you.
wrpgs and jrpgs are diferent but they are still rpgs
Tell me boomers don't you ever get bored from engaging into wasting your time in those shitty third person fantasy role playing games. Lets take one minute and think about it seriously. This genre is mediocre with zero creativity and fun. We can predict half of the game content before even beginning it. We know that that everything will look ugly grey and boring because of dark fantasy excuse . We know that it is going to be a gay story of fight between evil and good , dark beasts and heroes, demons and humans, We know that there will be several empty villages that serves nothing and can be replaced with a chest or a quest board. We know that there will be multiple cave levels where you loot dead bodies while you fight gay big spiders , skeletons and over cliché done to death fantasy creatures. Oh and the gameplay. Lets talk about the gameplay. Wasting hours in your shitty "progression" and grinding for a +1 in your stat is a crime against vidya games . No getting a sword with few points higher damage than your last one doesn't make your dick look bigger. Being a magicien and having a acess to a fireball attack that you spam half of the game is not amazing experience , you could have more fun mowing the lawn. Looking at every corner to find loot that change nothing in your gameplay, is not discovery , it is just a sad way to waste time and pretend to be playing an interactive game. We know that the notion of physics , hitbox and aritificial intelligent will never be there and that it have been accepted for decades that every line of code for the game will be filled with bugs. So why don't you just spare yourself the shame, and stop pretending that this type of shitty genre is anything but shit ?
2 has a better world, but 1 does do some things better. Both are among the best action-RPGs ever made.
To be fair you can get far by cheesing early on: buying/stealing the transform spell in Khorinis harbor lets you clear the entire first map for a ton of xp+loot
somebody's mad because they cant reach the second story of my remote mushroom tower in the middle of the furthest corner of the rockiest wasteland in a game about rocky wastelands
yeah i do that, but i don't abuse it because there's a bug. whenever you level up as a beast, your hitpoints stay the same. So if you make a bunch of levels as a beast, you lose a ton of HP pool which is kinda important to me. So i split each transformation for a certain area of enemies, i thought a lot about this
These faggots here haven't even jacked off to the secret naked woman in Gothic 1
>implying
It read like one of those fake cheats you find on shitty websites back in the early 2000s but it was actually true. shit was cash
Depends how much you want to minmax, true.
I enjoy how much less tedious it makes the start
Found it by accident. 12 year old me with no internet was very happy
Gothic is a bad series of awful games, I would rather play Divinity 2 Ego Draconis, and Kingdoms of Amalur than the best Gothic game.
That's okay. Play the things that you enjoy, user.
t. seething witchercuck
>Kingdoms of Amalur
tried it and got bored pretty fast, different tastes i guess
When have you played Gothic 1 the last time? It completely falls apart in the last third. Do you think the quest for the ulumulu is fun? Do you think having to run through the sleeper dungeon twice is good game design? Do you enjoy getting softlocked at the final boss every two minuts?
The end of Gothic 1 is not good. It seriously isn't. The first third of the game is phenomenal. But it runs out of steam so hard that I struggle to call it a great game, all things considered.
>Kingdoms of Amalur
>Summer Court - lush forest
>Winter Court - bunch of rocks
I tend to play rogues/thieves so usually hlaalu but telvanni is probably the coolest
Is Risen cucked? I have the first one but never got to play it, heard mixed reviews
Risen 1 is very good in the first two acts, then it turns into garbage
2 and 3 are garbage don't bother
i love watching numbers get bigger, hitting skeletons, and wasting time.
Risen 1 is Gothic 3 without bugs in a more boring setting (fuck pirates)
Play G3 with patches instead
I think it's pretty alright, traversal becomes smooth once you learn the dodge roll jump thing so you can just zoom around if you use it at the right angles
Though it needs to be said that I don't enjoy the endgame content of either game a ton, I do vastly prefer the sleeper temple to Irdorath
The dragon fights didn't pan out for me at all, especially in the version where they're regenerating health and are basically invulnerable to melee unless you have Biff with you and some cheese spells and whatnot
All the going back to the mine colony in 2 is also not something I find overly great, though it is atmospheric and dreary to be sure and meeting up with Gorn and Milten is always nice
There is a lot I could write here but honestly, I would have to replay both games fully to truly get a grasp on the matter, it has been a couple years
However I have been playing these games since release and I remember 1 a lot more fondly for the most part so I'll go with my gut feeling in judging what is and what isn't better
Well, go masturbate I guess. Since you are techinically hitting a skeleton while doing so. About the numbers, I don't know, I'm sure there is someone on youtube you can watch counting to a million.
Fair enough, the dragons aren't exactly fun fights. They seem more like stonewalls you have to cheese your way through by burning some scrolls and abusing the level geometry.
But I personally very much enjoy the return to the minevalley, it is a nice connection to Gothic 1 and aside from the dragons most of the content there is fun.
About the acrobatics skill, yeah, I kinda hate that. I mean, it is good, don't get me wrong. But it looks just so fucking retarded I try not to abuse it.
Again, I recommend you to replay the two games. If only because they are both good. I just think Gothic 1 doesn't hold up nearly as well, especially in the shadow of Gothic 2.
do you have gothic memes ?
>checking on all the paladins for their ore mining operations
>fun
I don't know man, I get cold sweat just thinking about the colony and the inevitable 3rd act start
Yes. It's called the sequel.
Like 4 instances of weeaboo kiddy shit and a speed clicker above Deus Ex.
imo Gothic 1 has a much better 2nd half than G2
Christ is it dull starting with Chapter 4.
yeah but chapter 5 is great imo
Maybe it isn't fun in itself, but I like the contrast to Gothic 1. In that sense Gothic 2 is much better if you played Gothic 1 beforehand, I suppose.
>pokemon gold is the best game of all time
>has meh gameplay
No wonder game devs don't give a shit about gameplay anymore, no one else does either
I would say that any great sequel accomplishes just that
People who just play the 3rd Witcher miss out on so many small things that reference previous titles, it's quite appalling to be honest
Well, I'm the first to say that the early Pokemon games were extremely flawed, but boiling that down to "it has meh gameplay" is a bit reductive. The moment to moment control scheme is not particularly exciting, but the game does have good mechanics, and is generally a good world designed around those mechanics.
That being said, it is definately not "the best game of all time".
That title obviously goes to Megaman 4
xth for L'Hiver version 1.1.5 and beyond NEVER EVER
deus ex should be no.1
t. gep gun connoisseur
It's number 1 on a bunch of these lists, calm down.
>has never seen a teleport run in his entire life
lost right there.
Well, it does take a while to get those, and he probably didn't make it that far.
