It's alright, 90% of the girls you can grind for and they're highly effective. There's 2 that are insanely strong that are locked behind the gacha (Herrscher of the Void and Vermilion Knight) but it's not a pvp game.

Commuting is part of every day life in Japan, the cities are too fucking big to use alternative transport and the traffic is too awful to drive, so trains are the standard.
Luckily for me I'm moving somewhere a half-hour walk from work and outside the major city areas so that's not going to be too big a problem. Frankly I'm amazed anyone can even play mobage during rush hour, the crowding on the trains is fucking ludicrous.

I thought Shadow Knight was the best one after HotV. Whatever, she's fun to use anyway, I like that Fuka actually has variety in her movesets thanks to having more than one core attack button.

I'm pretty sure I got her during her early fragment giveaway period. I still don't use her because my phone crashes every time I use a super from anyone released since the beginning of the year. Kind of, depends on the gear. Full geared, VK is better because it’s easier to run supports with her. SK is more F2P friendly though.

There's a ton of best ones depending on what gear you have access to. Yae Sakura's miko is an amazing physical damage dealer, and easily grindable through her Open World missions.
Liliya (the blue girl) is amazing, tons of built in damage, and she was just released so they're giving away a bunch of her fragments to get you started unlocking her.

FGO is literally one of the stingiest on the market, man, you can only go up from there. Honkai just fucking gives you the rate-up S rank valkyrie after 100 rolls if you didn't get it already and you get a guaranteed base 4* weapon or stigmata on a 10 roll for gear.
Most of the characters you can just get for free by playing the game anyway.

Of the 41 available waifus, there’s only 7 that are actually locked behind gacha, the rest are all farmable. Not to mention the guaranteed pulls after 100 rolls and 5* within every 10 rolls. What hurts your wallet is actually gearing them, which could require pulling from 4 different banners depending on the character

I go with a maxed Judgement of Shamash for my GK, and I got lucky as all hell during her stigmata re-issue, pulled all 3 pieces in ~8 pulls. Like the game wanted me to love her.
And don't sleep on Luna Kindred, I have a Drac top and bot with a Planck mid on her and she crushes. It probably helps that I have had a Judah since near the release of the game so I just slapped that on her.

Yeah, that's something people should be told, to roll for decent generalist weapons before going whole-hog into character rolling. I had a Judah, 3 Void Blades and the blood greatsword very early on. The 3 void blades particularly helped a ton since they're just flat good on every katana user.

What is there left to do in Honkai once you've fully geared an S rank valk like hotv?

Gear more valks. Stuff like Memorial Arena and Path of Apotheosis requires a variety of semi-to-fully geared valks.

Optimise your teams since one valk isn't going to carry you through top tier stuff.

Grind up the rest of a team for her, grind up other characters to fill niche's that she doesn't since you'll want a strong elemental damage dealer. Master the Dirac sea and Memorial arena bosses.
Herrscher is fantastic, but it's a game about team setups, and variety is the spice of life, and game modes are set up to make you look at having a harem.

Starter tips:
Roll 1 at a time, not in a 10 batch. You get a guaranteed A rank/Good gear at 10 rolls, but that drop chance resets when you get a good drop. So if you do a 10 roll and get the good drop after 3, then that's potentially 7 wasted rolls.

Use your early crystals to roll for characters from the Standard gacha, after you get a few/a character you like, then never touch it again. You will be rolling on Focused and Expansion banners.

It all comes in due time, you want anything you're using to be maxed, of course, but in my case I can never get enough honkai cores so I have a bunch of non-maxed weapons, and have to make sure to farm up the rare items from open world missions in order to max out my stigs.
It's a process, I'm much less bothered it in this game because it's fun and I can make synergistic teams that cover for not having completely maxed out gacha weapons.

I found it was very limited by its platform even though it tried very hard to push the limits of its engine and do everything it could with it. It was just never able to present a real challenge and once you mastered the basic mechanics it came down to equipment/character stats. However, I felt it was generous with the Gem equivalents and I never wanted to buy anything. During special events it seemed set up that you could go for one special character reward and get it just by playing. But I've never played any other mobile game besides Girls Cafe Gun, which I also feel generally the same way about.

Collections are fun. Plus, many gachas are FP2 friendly in the sense you don't have to pay ever to enjoy the content. FGO, Tenka Hykken, Bleach Brave Souls, Dragalia, pick your poison. You don't to spend a cent to have a good experience.
Even PVP centred games like Dragon Ball Legends can be very F2P friendly. My team is meta as fuck.

One thing I liked about the DS was that when a game decided to have extensive touch screen controls they utilized it in a way that felt intuitive, like the two Zelda titles. You pressed to make Link move somewhere, swiped to have him slash, tapped to have him roll, etc.

I like Honkai but it kills me that it's just doing the same shit a lot of action mobile games do where they just attempt to emulate a fake controller on the touch screen, while it's cloning Bayonetta which is a series with a decent touch screen control option.

My shitty old Note 3 can run it albeit with not insignificant issues (framerate craps out a lot, certain specials will semi-reliably crash the fucking game, etc.), so I'd advise having something at least slightly more up to date.

My discontinued Tab4 model from 2014 with a 1.2GHz quad core and 5.1.1 firmware can kinda run it at a shitty frame rate on its lowest "performance" setting.
