>this is gonna replace mega man
What in the hell were they thinking?
>this is gonna replace mega man
What in the hell were they thinking?
"We're gonna trick these suckers into buying our nostalgia bait!"
Preying off nostalgia.
The said thing is it worked, and those who bought into it got suckered hard.
I'd take more of Inafune managing to capitalize on the scorn towards Capcom at the time even though a lot of issues at Capcom was his fault
MN9 was more of a fuck you to Capcom because they cancelled MML3 to the fans than a MEGAMAN IS BACK
But now people know that Inafune is a hack and MM11 got made so we can look back and laugh
Disregarding everything else about the game, that design is fucking garbage.
>All that fan art about Megaman passing on the torch
You are implying that Inafune sabotaged his own project; that's not what happened. MN9 was mismanaged, that's mostly the crux of the issue.
If MN9 had been good by Yea Forums standards, you would not be here asserting that backers were suckers.
The misleading concept art displayed on the Kickstarter suckered everyone in.
>take a studio that does 2D pretty good but has zero experience in making anything in 3D
>have them make it in 3D
What the fuck were they thinking?
MN9 would probably be better if they didn't get as much money as they did
Post some, I feel like laughing
The only thing sadder than this game is an anime fan on prom night.
Not to defend MN9 but I don't think anyone anywhere employs the labourious digital model rendering process just to be used for concept art.
I would honestly like to play this game, because it is baffling how it could get so much universal hate. Like, how could a game this famous have such poor quality?
looking at the in game graphics, they don't do anything really interesting, or actually even match the modern standard for games. it looks like a dressed up mobile game, which makes me wonder if that is what is actually is. The concept art is this really cool 2.5D style that would have been mindblowing, if they had stuck to it. but, instead, we get this shitty up-rezzed N64 look.
bros...
well... two out of three fell on their faces. I am holding out hope for Bloodstained.
they could have used mikez's engine and the game would have actually looked like this since it can do realtime lighting on sprites and shit. Skullgirl's artstyle is weird but the engine isn't shit.
The thing I like most is that people know they were getting baited on the extreme nostalgia focused marketing and fell for it by thinking it was a good thing.
Imagine if they made an HD 2D game like Cuphead? Cartoony can work with HD 2D.
>but has zero experience in making anything in 3D
That's wrong, they made a Gon game for the 3DS, a PSP Battle game, and some 3D bleech game.
Bloodstained going 3D damaged the development cycle, but I still think it will be worth playing.
The development of this game was such a trainwreck I really wish there was some sort of postmortem for it.
There was. I don't have a link on hand though.
There's a bunch of shitty youtubers, but the the thing is we really don't know a lot of the real behind the scenes story. And MN9's development looks to be an even bigger hot mess with so many developers coming and going. They must have burned through so many millions of publisher money on this.
Yeah, that's what I meant, I remember seeing some videos about it but they never go much deeper outside of this whole Diana bullshit and the game being delayed
LOLOLOLOLOLOL
Anyone remember when the biggest controversy surrounding this game was some retarded tumblr artist being on the team supposedly in charge of the art direction or something?
I miss the simpler times.
>The only thing sadder than that dev is anime fan on prom night
Look at the fucking corporations trying so hard to be hip.
It's easy to make fun of this shit in hindsight but people fucking love Mega Man and Capcom wasn't doing shit with the IP, so the idea of a core MM designer making his own was mana from heaven.
Remember when anons were so anal over this shit?
What is she up to these days?
That shit depresses me and I'm not even a Megaman fan, reminds me of my disappointment over Yooka-Laylee as a Banjo-Kazooie fan.
And I still am.
Maybe the trap is relying on direct comparisons to old games. Shovel Knight, Hollow Knight and Cuphead wear their inspirations on their sleeve, but they mash up old ideas from multiple games and throw in new shit of their own for good measure. It's when the mission statement is literally "make another Mega Man" or "make another Banjo-Kazooie" that these games don't live up to expectations, because trying to create an old game beat-for-beat is doomed to failure.
RIP Bloodstained
E is the best but at least she was spared the horrible fate of being in that trash fire.
>X and Zero always knew
Last I heard she was trying to #metoo game devs.
Right on the money, these spiritual successors never work out.
Oh hey here's something to kill everyone inside a little bit too, this was literally the only thing Capcom did for Mega Man's 25th anniversary:
He was gonna have a TV show and everything!
Comcept made twitter accounts for each and every "Mighty" robot. Check them out, they're real.
>the Mighty No 9 cartoon
>the Red Ash kickstarter
>the Red Ash anime kickstarter
Mighty No 9 was such a colossal fuckup, it's kind of unreal.
Huh. I actually didn't know that.
>Red Ash got one OVA then dropped off the face the of planet
What was wrong with it, other than the awful visuals? Genuinely curious, I've never bothered to pay any attention to it.
Remember when it was supposed to have a cartoon?
The entire game feels like an amateurish rushjob. NO polish, no soul.
And a live action hollywood film adaption?
After it bombed so hard it ain't gonna replace shit, unless Inti takes over the franchise or something.
Games inspired by older games are fine. But when a game dev tells you that their game is going to be the spiritual successor of some old franchise, that's an immediate red flag.
The whole dashing gimmick sucks, and the whole games was based on it. Also a lot of technical problems, bad framerate, a shitton of various bugs. Feels unfinished
>Remember Mega Man?
>Please send cash.
Honestly that was the tipping point for me in viewing Inafune as a comically greedy fuck to just pure unfiltered disgust. Game’s not even out yet and this nigger thinks he just made the next pokemon or something.
These two idiots almost ruined Capcom.
What keks my shit up is how bland this thing is. Its like a 99 cent app store game and it looks like shit.
Did he know it sucked?
I was talking about this with my """crew""" earlier today. Good games seem to happen by accident. I mean look at Rare. Donkey Kong Country 2 and Dong 64. Same developer. Same franchise. One classic. The other abject shit.
He clearly felt that Capcom wasn't capitalizing on Mega Man like he thought they should, and he was gonna show them how it was done.
>I WAS GONNA REVOLUTIONIZE THE GAMING MARKET N SHIET!
youtube.com
>KG Inafune fucked up so hard he made other Japanese work harder
>it worked
the company that commissioned it was bought off by a chinese bootleg console manufacturer and was never heard from again, how was mn9 successful in any way shape or form
>they made the huge floppy breasts smaller
Unforgivable.
MN9 is why Inti Creates were fired from BS. Imagine being Iga:
>Leaves Konami since they had him working on mobile games he hated
>hires Inti Creates, and it's a match made in heaven. It's all clicking.
>He sees problems iwth the game. Inti says it'll be okay.
>More problems. More reassurances.
>MN9 drops. iga picks up a copy
>All the issues Inti says will be fixed with BS are there
>Iga fires them on the spot
>scrambles and hires some mobile devs instead
The game may end up being shit but I will give Iga some credit for actually acknowledging the flaws of his game. Ignoring criticism was among the chief reasons for why Mighty No.9 was hated.
Kinda feels bad for Inti since they ain’t that bad when it comes to making 2D action side scrollers. Granted I don’t think anyone wants yet another Megaman Zero reskin but I’m sure they could have pulled Bloodstained through. Problem is that they are now forever cursed with the label of “THAT team that made Mighty No.9”
>inafune has an interview where he essentially calls the Japanese gaming industry creatively bankrupt and says to look to the west for inspiration
>goes to make a fucking megaman rehash
If you actually paid the smallest amount of attention to happenings in the industry you'd know it was fucked from the get-go. Inafune is simply a business man, and one that publicly talked trash on his previous employer (Capcom). Stupid.
How did Ben Judd get so far? He seems to fuck up everything he touches.
>How did Ben Judd get so far?
Having sex with Keiji Inafune. I'm not joking.
>anime fans at prom night
Judd is a translator who worked on successful games, so they promoted him to the head of the localizaiton department. He befriended Inafune, and then he got more promotions until he was somehow a producer. Then he fucked everything up.
What's the name of a thing where you promote someone until they're incomeptent at their job? Ben Judd is just a translator, he does'nt know shit about business.
The most ironic part is that he can’t even do that right.
H was cute but this contest was a sham
>What's the name of a thing where you promote someone until they're incomeptent at their job?
Japanese game industry.
"made by someone related to the creation of Megaman"
and
"a game kind of like Megaman"
unfortunately that's exactly what it was, and that happened to be a very average thing.
>Call B and I didn't make it into Mighty Gunvolt Burst
Inti should have gone the extra mile and included all them.
>Granted I don’t think anyone wants yet another Megaman Zero reskin
Speak for yourself pal, they've been great at it.
brakes*
He's a cute shota android
My nigga
Azure Striker doesn't play like MMZ at all
>Go from being hailed a visionary savior to a mocked hack
It fucking amazes me how Inafune managed to have literally all the trust and goodwill one could ask for on kickstarter project and then they ended up bungling all of it on pretty much every step of the way
>Inafune leaves Capcom, saying that "his talents are unappreciated there"
>RE7
>REmake 2
>MonHun World I'm a FU/3U/4Ufag but world sold a bajillion copies
>DMC V
>while Inafune's name is attached to Yaiba Ninja Gaiden, DmC, Kaio: King of Pirates and Mighty Blunder 9
Why does he have a blue dick and what's the deal with his arms? I hate that character design so much.
It took them a while to recover though. I'm still wondering why Capcom was so scared of trying to do anything Mega Man related since his departure
Mighty Gunvolt Burst was alright at least.
How many of these Japanese game guys that left their companies ruin their names with flop projects anyway?
Sakaguchi did it, Matsuno did it, tons of others too.
Might be Japanese culture (or maybe really most cultures) but doing something with Mega Man after his departure might had seemed like poor taste.
Or they simply had no trust in the brand at that point so when they saw Mighty No 9 get a bunch of Kickstarter bucks and then fail spectaculary somebody at Capcom had the foresight to realize "Shit, people want Mega Man?" with the difference being that Capcom houses a shitton of seasoned talented designers and developers so MM11 had a far stronger pedigree to stand on.
In addition, Mega Man himself had a lot of demand built up for him in the meanwhile between 10 and 11. MN9s failure, Mega Mans appearances in Super Smash bros, and the overall fan demand increasing.
Gunvolt Burst was what the game should have been in the first place. All these kickstarter projects are so eager to cut costs that they screw themselves with it like Mighty No.9 and Bloodstained.
>It took them a while to recover though
I think that's partially because right before he left, he had already gotten Capcom started on development of several games. He left in 2010, but DmC which he was responsible for only came out in 2013. He also had full creative control over Capcom's projects at the time and he geared all the teams to make faux-Western games which probably took a while to recover from.
Daily reminder Mighty Number 9 being shit is what made Capcom want to do Mega Man 11 in the first place to prove their dominance so one good thing came out of it.
>Inafune himself cancelled Legends 3 and let Capcom take the blame
The man is a genius in some ways. Too bad he forgot that he's the ideas guy and he needed some technical staff to actually make a game.
PlatinumGames did pretty well, no?
To be fair that was an entire team of talent rather than just one auteur dev tho.
>What's the name of a thing where you promote someone until they're incomeptent at their job?
Peter principle.
Yeah, Platinum was a full team. The ones that went solo ended up ruining their careers. Matsuno amusingly enough went back to help with FF XIV.
Amusingly enough, a bunch of old Squaresoft guys like Minaba and Yoshida went to Cygames and made Granblue which is basically FF and are raking in the cash. Despite Square Enix insisting that classic Final Fantasy doesn't sell, their own ex-Squaresoft devs are literally making shit tons from an FF clone.
Is this an improvement?
Good time to be alive as Crash Chad
No, you brainlet, the biggest reason why MN9 and YL sucked shit is because they fucked with the formula by implementing poorly thought out "innovations" and just poor game design in general. Bloodstained literally being a Castlevania game in everything but name is exactly why it turned out so good, Curse of the Moon's great for the same reason.
>this was literally the only thing Capcom did for Mega Man's 25th anniversary:
You forgot them promoting and hosting the download link to the fan made Street Fighter X Mega Man game, I'll let you be the judge of how good or bad that is.
It's supposed to be a monster.
Not make your peepee hard.
They got replaced on the main game, yes. But they were the dole devs for the retro styled spin-off; Curse of the Moon, which turned out great by the way.
There's a lot of MMZ elements however.
>if the game wasn't bad, you wouldn't be saying it's bad.
But the newer one's making my peepee hard, unlike the old one.
They also made Gal Gun.
At least based Call E is an alt costume in Mighty Gunvolt Burst, AKA MN9 done right.
gal*gun is a genuinely awful looking and lacking game, tho
MN9 could have been not shit if it was as a 2D game
>gal*gun is a genuinely awful looking and lacking game, tho
Irrelevant to the point, which was that they DID have some experience with 3D before MN9.
At least we got Curse of the Moon which is great. Kind of easy compared to Castlevania 3, but a great game.
imagine being so naive and retarded you actually thought this is how the game would actually look and that it's not just concept art. imagine being that stupid.
>inafune trying to create a franchise on fucking Day 0
>a movie, cartoon and a legends spinoff
What the fuck was he smoking?
This was almost me, I'm embarrassed to admit.
>HOLY SHIT THAT LOOKS FUCKING GREAT, I GOTTA BACK THIS STRAIGHT AW-
>wait, concept art tends to look way better than the full game, I'll wait for gameplay footage of the game itself
>cue awesome moonwalking of awesomeness and crying anime fans on prom night
probably the same thing as the people who donated 4 million dollars
No but I want to anal them all!
This isn’t really an apt comparison. Aside from the characters, DKC and DK64 are totally different.
It's not even bad. It's just adequate. The thing is, so is fucking MM11
2?
Yooka laylee wasn’t great but it was still decent, and MN9 was shit but at least the burst spin off was really good
Yooka Laylee delivered exactly what they promised. They literally said "We want to make a prettier N64-era Rare collect-a-thon" What the fuck was everyone expecting?
What did he mean by this?
this is the single most disgusting pile of shit i have ever witnessed
Inafune unironically though everyone would make games for him because of his success with Soul Sacrifice which SCE Japan Studio made for him. He gave them a bunch of concepts, and the incredibly talented SCE Japan Studio did all the work while he got all the credit, Inafune assumed he could just do more of that.
So he collaborated with Inti to make Mighty Number 9 and Marvelous to make Kaio, and then just sat back and waited for the games to be made. But since this didn't have big dick Sony funding and manpower behind it like Soul Sacrifice did, there was only so much the dev teams could do, especially with Inafune and his Comcept clowns doing the absolute bare minimum and having no knowledge of actual game development.
Someone should mimic this style for an actual 2D game.
Not this 2.5D bullshit like this or Bloodstained.
>It's not even bad
Wrong, dumbass. It's fucking shit with no redeeming qualities.
>It's just adequate. The thing is, so is fucking MM11
Wrong again, retard. MM11 solid as hell and is easily in the top 3 best classic series games.
it looks like hes wearing blue panties (you can't unsee it)
How much did you donate to the Kickstarter? C'mon, be honest here. We were all suckered. I gave $50
You're on drugs you cock nugget neither game is anything special
I gave the base purchase donation to ReDASH. I regret nothing
Managed to save myself from backing Mighty no. 9, but $60 on Bloodstained.
I imagine that Megaman 11 was them trying to garner up some goodwill and remove some of the blame Inafune left on them. Especially since people found out that the demo controversy and the game's cancellation was Inafune's fault so Inafune is now the target of the complaints.
Nah, you just have atrocious taste and don't know shit about what you're talking about.
>but $60 on Bloodstained.
What's the issue here?
The problem was it played and looked like one of those c-grade platformers (Gex, Ty, that mummy game). I stopped playing it after an hour because gameplay was a lot worse then banjo and 99% of the writing was "lol we're in a video game"
>already replaced Mega Man
>kill their Mega Man substitute with MN09
why?
Bloodstained might be actually good though: youtu.be
The demo plays fine but it's still ugly to look at. Eh, what's done is done, at least the gameplay will be good.
It looks perfectly fine now:
While Gunvolt came out before MN9, that was only because the latter got delayed a bunch of times. GV was announced like a year after the MN9 kickstarter.
Also, Gunvolt is way more akin to a MMZ successor than a MM one.
Gunvolt also fits into Inti-Creates's habit of making MMZ successors that don't capture anything I like about MMZ.
For me it replaced one problem with another, instead of a pale and colourless world it now has ridiculous amounts of lighting to the point where it's obnoxious.
