E3 2009-2015 was fucking great - not for the game announcements (2011 and 2012 were pretty shit all-round) but for the spectacle of a bunch of out-of-touch boomers trying to appeal to the epic gamers, while we sat in out streams and chats shitposting about it. I have very fond memories shitposting and watching e3 with Yea Forums

but sometime in like, 2015, the game devs started to take notice all the stupid shit from the past, and begun making E3 shows as boring and safe as possible. It's really just no fun to watch, aside from maybe the stupid fucking ubisoft "real gameplay footage" sections.

I blame nintendo for doing nintendo direct. They figured out that an E3 show that was per-recorded is bullet proof.

Because of that, watching e3 with Yea Forums is way less fun now. Instead of shitposting about the show, we just shitpost about the games, which is what happens here every day anyway.

The magic is dead. It's all just good memories now, and a marketing show

Very much so. Nintendo, EA, and Sony have all abandoned it and they are basically the only relevant companies besides Ubisoft who always just makes a laughing stock of themselves every year anyway. Xbone and the """""PC gaming""""" show are a joke with nothing to bring to the table and Bethesda are scum. The industry has no need for the show anymore with how easy it is to just put out whatever they want to show online whenever they want.

The last good E3 was 9 years ago.

The cringe is what makes them worth watching, EA and Microsoft is just out of touch boredom, except for the very rare case where Microsoft bothers to pay a bunch of developers to reveal their games on their show, and Sony and Nintendo are just predictable. There's also the "pc gaming show" but that's 90% irrelevant indie shovelware no one cares about 5% new games that were already shown in the other shows, 4% existing PC games teasing some new update, 1% new games that people care about.

It is all so true. I have been disappointed with the last few E3 events because of what you described. Game announcements were secondary to the spectacle of execs and sweaty developers making idiots out of themselves and Yea Forums screen capping and meming the fuck out of it all. Lots of great laughs. Too bad it's all dull now and Yea Forums isn't funny anymore and is just angry all the time.

Even if you don't care about their games, one of the big three hardware manufacturers pulling out of the biggest industry event of the year is a huge fucking deal, and the fact that they don't feel the need to be there says a lot about the current state of the show itself.

The big ones for me this year are FF7R, Outer Worlds, Halo and From's next game which sounds like it's going back to more medieval fantasy.

Last year all I really cared about was KH3 and DMC5. Going in I wasn't expecting to get excited over Halo again and Sekiro honestly didn't tickle my fancy.
