One thing I liked about SA is how low-stakes and petty the early missions are. It's like "go beat up a dealer for pocket change " or " ride this shitty bike to your next mission ".

You really appreciate how far you've come later in the game when you're stealing jetpacks and fighting the Navy in a VTOL.

This trilogy is a good example becoming more interesting due to more and more gameplay additions. 3 was already a big jump from the top down age, but feels primitive compared to its sequels. It is remembered fondly, but I do not see people talking as much about it than VC or SA, which had more style to them I suppose.

I would have liked SA a whole lot more if the story past the first "chapter" was paced better. Helping your gang get their shit together and seeing it ruined was a nice narrative point, but after that, but then the badlands section just feels so rushed through.

I feel like San Andreas had a lot of out of place shit. Yeah it was fun, but each part of the story felt disjointed. Vice city was small but comfy and with a better story.

GTA 3 was so outdone by its sequels that you'd be a moron to think its better than either. Still a good game and revolutionary at the time, but almost unplayable now

III is the best by virtue of setting up most of the systems the other two use. They're amazing games but they're essentially expansion packs for 3. Gotta pay respect to the foundation of the 3D series.
As a complete game it's obviously San Andreas, but even with the insane amount of content in that game, you're essentially still doing the same things you did in 3, experiencing the cities in the same way, listening to the radio which references world events and so on.

VC > SA > 3

I will never understand anyone that can rank 3 above anything that came after. VC and the two Stories games are direct upgrades from it. It's can't even be boiled down to preference like VC vs SA or 4 vs 5, every game after 3 is just objectively better in every aspect. 3 was good at the time, kicked off the 3D era, and can still be enjoyed but it just cannot compete with it's sequels.

SA was ahead of its time. Legendary game by Rockstar.

GTA San Andreas was the best, Vice City is second best, and GTA 3 was alright. San Andreas had the best music, locations, vehicles, and cheats. Vice City is a fun game, but will never live up to San Andreas. Best thing about Vice City is the aesthetic with homage to 80s film and culture. GTA 3 is just boring and is the hardest to go back to.
