Nothing against that generation - it's just what rock was at the time, a way to earn money and get fuck tons of chicks, so that's the sort of person they drew in. When rock was no longer the coolest shit (early 90's), a lot of people came together to reject that image of bland rebellion and sex in favor of a more artistic or sincere outlet for art. This is why, instead of suing people, a lot of the grunge or hard rock musicians ended up killing themselves.

I've tried to get into Iron Maiden and I don't know if it's just the quality of the recordings but they've always sounded really flat to me. They just wanted to make some fans happy and have fun. Pretty cool if you ask me. Nowadays even the "non-sellout" bands would never do this and charge like $100 a ticket even at smaller venues.

There was a new composer on board for the Playstation version, Aubrey Hodges. He also did the soundtrack for Doom 64. I'm sure it was just a stylistic choice at id Software, since newer releases of Doom 1 and 2 do not lack their old tracks.
