I'm just gonna drop the most comfy song in here before anyone else does.

Definition of "acquired taste". Absolutely hated it at first playthrough but once I started getting gud I really began to love it and with the addition of the level editor it personally surpassed the first one for me.

hotline miami 2 is one of the only truly postmodern video games

>trying to get 1-800-goddamn
>get to seizure
>give up
that level can go fuck itself
>can't see shit
>first area is done best with guns so bodyguard or firepower is better
>second and third area is done best with dirty hands
>either screw myself over on the first area or on the other two
>still can't see shit

another comfy hit youtube.com/watch?v=vsZtCLMsevM
really does have a unique, non-descriptive feeling to it, like it comes from somewhere outside of Earth

This game was a pile of fucking shit.
How do you go from a game all about adrenaline and quick thinking to a game where you have to hang back and meticulously plan your course ahead every few seconds because the whole thing is littered with glass walls for enemies to shoot you through?

have dinner

>one of the only truly postmodern video games
I love HLM2 but that describes 1.
2 was far more straight forward with it's Tarantino esc. plot.

Beating this game on hard was an accomplishment for me that year.

I will never attempt it again.

Hotline Miami 1 was a better game.
Hotline Miami 2 has the better soundtrack though.

but that's why, because it's all irrelevant

>Tarantino esc.

I already did. I had spaghetti and garlic bread.
Hotline Miami 2 is a fucking joke compared to the first game.

1 captured that theme way better though. Not to say that 2's story wasn't good, it was just more traditional. That final scene with Richter and his mom is one of my favorite vidya endings.

mad cuz bad

only carbs for dinner, for shame user. get some veggies at least

LYNCHED

I beat the game. I had to force myself to do it since there was very little fun to be had, but I finished it.

man, I'm thirsty

GOTTA
GET
A
GRIP

the fault with 1 is that makes it a point to show how much it don't matter, but in 2 it just doesn't matter; 1 needs to try, whereas 2 just is

You don't hang back in HM2 you learn to move, look forward and shoot at the same time. Hell you can even dodge enemy pistol fire with any character if you turn right as the enemy shoots. You're just used to HM1 where the winning strategy was get melee weapon and run through left clicking. HM1's not a bad game, but it's baby mode in comparison to HM2.

I love how the universal reaction to this song is to call it total shit for the first 30 seconds and then by the end its everyone's favorite:

are there any other games like hotline that manage to capture the pure essence of blissful, unbridled, non-edgy, raging bloodlust? I want to feel freedom again

Ape Out has a very similar gameplay style with good music motivating you to kill.

Is it possible to beat this level in Hard without raging? The Chainsaw guy they added only dies to guns.

it's actually this

subway is my favorite level
I think they changed it because he dies to melee now.

I'm digging the jazz vibe, thanks

Non-lethal melee?

No problem man.

yeah, I beat it the other day without going to rage/lethal mode

>tfw you realize what the cover art actually is
bastards hid everything right in plain sight

Katana Zero is a bit in the same vibe.

This is probably my favorite track, that or the one on Martin Brown's level

Some of the characters feel wasted but I still love 2

I can only think of one thing that it hints at - the nukes. What do you mean by everything? I feel like I'm missing what the cover art actually is.
