Oblivion NPCs were just too ugly for my tastes. Also the setting is pretty generic and dull. I got bored fast. Can't forget to mention the voice acting and combat were shite.

What an odd looking rainforest with a rice based economy.

both are garbage games for smelly retards

I'm fairly certain I have never heard anyone say that Skyrim is better than Oblivion.
Digital or IRL.

If you honestly think Morrowind is better than Oblivion you're a contrarian faggot.

Morrowind>Skyrim>Oblivion
This is a undeniable truth

Not him, but Skyrim is far better than Oblivion, but Morrowind is better than both.

>gramps still hasn't come to terms with the retcon

Who the FUCK are you quoting?

Holy shit they can use their chins to fight daedra

Still a million times better than the """professional""" faces.

user you can buy bait cheap from Ching-Ching Land

Horrible, terrible, awful, shitty, disgusting taste

skyrim is shit

That is exactly the response I expect of a pleb

Kill yourselves.
Oblivion is better than Skyrim purely on the basis that magic is actually viable in the game.

heavily modded Skryim is the best of those three and i own them and their expansions. Morrowind gives me many feels for many reasons, and i miss a lot of things from that game, but nah.

If you like Oblivion more than Skyrim you should like Morrowind more than Oblivion
If you like Oblivion more than Morrowind you should like Skyrim more than Oblivion.

>When people think adding brown, bloom, blur, and contrast looks good

Attached: 1528410072880.jpg (645x671, 81K)

Oblivion's quest lines, main story, atmosphere, music, and leveling were vastly superior to Skyrim.

The level scaling, laughable design choices, and most unstable modding completely negate that.

Oblivion was when Bethesda peaked.

And modded Oblivion is by far the best open-world RPG.

Attached: oblivion_modded.jpg (1360x768, 1.4M)

What atmosphere did Oblivion even have? It was the most generic fantasy world you could imgainge, right down to minotaurs running around and a unicorn.

Skyrim is shit, The novelty of "dragons" wears off incredibly quick and the gross winter snow land looks disgusting. for me it's oblivion with it's beautiful forests and cities of which actually have shit to do in.

it's incredible to me that there are oblivion apologists. i won't go into the massive flaws with the game's design since it has all been said a million times but i will say it was a game i was anticipating for a long time and it turned out to be a huge disappointment. i still had fun with it but it's the second worst game in the series after arena.

oblivion has better quests
skyrim has a better world

>main story, atmosphere, music, and leveling were vastly superior to Skyrim.

Attached: Goodfellas Laugh.jpg (620x375, 280K)

>skyrim has a better world
how?

Im kind of happy I got to appreciate oblivion the way I did. I grew up extremely poor and in some ways "sheltered" so i had never experienced an open world first person rpg like it before and it honestly blew my mind and i thought it was the greatest video game ever made for years

i agree with this.

Damn. I want to go back to Oblivion to rape again, but I'm too lazy to mod it again.

Didn't even refute it.

the only thing viable in oblivion is min maxing or cheesing your stats.

They actually put effort into Skyrim's world instead of literal randomly generated shit.

oblivion has a terrible world, all the areas look like the same generic forest.

it's definitely more fun to be a mage in morrowind or oblivion than in skyrim

>Play Skyrim.
>No challenge, the entire game, no matter your difficulty setting.
>Play Oblivion.
>Get rekt by a million traps the first gate you go through.
It's not even a comparison my dude, you are saying a game that has no challenge or even creative level design, is somehow better than a game that had ample difficulty if not cheesed, and levels that were designed by an actual person.

You must love caves and tundra

>unironically trying to use mods to argue a game's quality

Oblivitards don't even now anything about their own game

are you surprised?

Here's a contrarian hot take: TES was never good. Actually neither was Bethesda.

not really. Oblivitards have always been the worst of the fanbase

no im saying a modded skyrim is better. youre going off on your own tangent atm because you have some issue to push.

nah fuck off

Yet you spent hundreds of hours on each entry in the series you contrarian schmuck.

You can't NOT use mods to argue a Bethesda games quality being as they are the lifeblood of those games.

Git gud then retard its not the designers fault you suck ass at video games and cheese them whenever possible.
>level scaling is a bad thing
>Design choices
Which ones, be more specific that could mean almost anything dipshit.
>Unstable modding
Maybe for idiots who cannot troubleshoot their load order.
Your entire post is basically, "I'm a retard and I am mad at this game for requiring me to not be retarded."

Okay, educate me then, how were the levels designed?

>Which ones, be more specific that could mean almost anything dipshit.
Basically everything from the immersion breaking "comedic" voice acting to the hideous armor design and randomly generated world
95% of the dungeons in the game are Randomly generated area chunks fused together. It is awful. I have no idea how you fanboys don't see it.

>Yea Forums actually defending skyrim over oblivion
lmao

The absolute fucking state of it

seething Oblivitards.

Oblivion is infamous for its same-face cut and paste caves.

Bethesda games are actually just contrived excuses for all those Construction Set assets

Why does Skyrim make you waste 5 perk points on doing more damage with your weapon? Why doesn't your skill level just do that?

Nice argument

>Retarded zoomers think this is their board.
Its not.
Go back to /pol/.
Oblivion is objectively better than Skyrim in all aspects.

I'm shitposting you absolute retard. Gonna bait some bigger fish in another thread though.

Oblivion is a lot funnier. I never had as much dumb stuff happen in Skyrim

>95% of the dungeons in the game are Randomly generated area chunks fused together.
They're not randomly generated.
blog.joelburgess.com/2013/04/skyrims-modular-level-design-gdc-2013.html
>When I first joined Bethesda, Oblivion was poised for the home stretch of its development cycle. Oblivion was of similar scope to Skyrim, yet built by a team of about half the size. One of the ways the dungeon art team coped with this disparity was to create a number of “warehouse” cells in the editor. These warehouses contained fully lit and cluttered rooms to copy, paste, and then arrange to create "new" dungeons. While efficient, this method left much to be desired, and many players rightfully called Oblivion dungeons out as being “cookie-cutter”.

>I'm a zoomer because I am not blinded by nostalgia.
Oblivion will always be the black sheep of the series.
You are right. I mean't copy and paste.

>leveling
Oblivion’s leveling is notoriously broken. The more you level up the more your attacks will feel like you are just hitting people with foam swords. Everything turns into a mega sponge.

lmao

How can one still defend Oblivion even after level designers themselves said it was a low effort copy paste job? It boggles the mind.

It's better than having half the skills. Skyrim is just too oversimplified.

It's better than having half the skills. Oblivion is just too oversimplified.

Oblivions casting system allows for more playstyles. It was gutted so we could have trashy impotent dragon shouts.

In what way? If you want more skills and rpg mechanics Morrowind and Daggerfall is better. If you want less dice-rolley combat Skyrim is better. Oblivion is the worst of both worlds.

Oblivion has more skills than Skyrim.

it's not

morrowind has more skills than oblivion, daggerfall has more than morrowind

Skyrim has bland combat without any of the numbers. Oblivion isn't as good as previous games but if I'm not getting good combat I might as well have shitty numbers

Oblivion.
No contest.

at least the vanilla faces have the benefit of being hilariously bad

Attached: 1536634160609.jpg (600x400, 32K)

Yeah and those are better than oblivion

I just started Morrowind, and the no Fast Travel/Mana regen is going to take a bit getting used to, as is the higher importance on Stamina. I just got out of the starting town, found the boots of blinding speed, and did basically nothing else. What do?

Also how the fug do I download the Plugins? It dosen't show up in the data files after I unzip it. I got the DLC, but I really want that +25 luck shield.

Daggerfall fucking sucks man.

Eh I grew up on DOS so that shit just works for me.

>creative level design,
LOl Oblivion has some of the worst copy paste dungeons in all the series, while Skyrim had Blackreach and Dwemer Ruins

Oblivion had soul

I thought the quests were a lot more enjoyable, and gimping hand to hand and enchanting sucked ass. Oblivion is better

skyrim at least threw out the whole system for something new. oblivion is just a gimped version of previous games with very little redeeming value.

I'd like it twice as much if the dungeon map system didn't make me want to kill myself. God forbid I went in looking for a quest monster than didn't spawn correctly.

What do you mean by plugins? Mods?
Also, you should join Telvanni for good time

morrowind has tedious mechanics

skyrim is retarded

oblivion is the sweetspot

Oh yeah that and Arena are fucking broken

Morrowind is shit though and worse than Skyrim, at least

Did they ever add mic support for shouts? That seemed like a missed opportunity. Also, why does the speech-craft tree do nothing for shouting?

Honestly I've come to terms with the fact that all TES games are highly flawed and as such which games you like and hate comes down to which game's stupid bullshit you can put up with in order to enjoy that game's strengths.

Attached: 1558990078204.png (133x265, 62K)

shouting is not the same as speechcraft in the game's lore. they could have added a shout perk tree though. also i don't want to yell at my games.

it mostly comes down to which one you played first because the awe of the big world and freedom outweighs the flaws. i know that a bunch of anons will come in with counter examples but please don't bother we all know it isn't true for everyone, i know it isn't true for everyone.

t. Hot Takeman

>having a huge mod community reduces a games quality

>having such shit taste that you accept a dense jungle/rainforest with motherfucking rust dragons being turned into generic fantasy land #128582185
consider self forever sleep, user

While technically true, I do agree with him. IIRC, pronunciation is supposed to be super important, so having a perk at high speechcraft levels to make your shouts more effective, for instance, seems like a good idea.

This. I'll never really understand how people claim any game in this series is one of their favorites when the whole franchise is a mess. The future of the franchise looks even bleaker considering how humorless Skyrim was in comparison to the rest of the entries, where humor is actually one of the strong points.

unironically thats what skyrim players do 90% of the time

I played them all in order on release and IMO Oblivion and Skyrim are equally good (especially when modded) and Morrowind is very hard to go back to.

I take it you never played Morrowind

weird

>people aren't allowed to have opinions I disagree with or they're contrarians

I honestly think all bethesda games are only as good as their porn mods.

Nah, I can get having favorites, but like I said I feel like it's more "What flavor of bullshit am I willing to put up with" rather than "Which game is actually better". The games are absolutely a fucking mess every time and I'm surprised they, and Bethesda in general, are as popular as they are.

>a games shitty quality is ignored if some asshole does the dev’s job and makes a mod

i dont know why nobody else seems to get this

>level up a bit
>bandits start wearing glass armour
>bandits
>wearing armour that they could just sell to be set for life with
defend this oblifags

Oblivion is soulful where as Skyrim is Soulless.

the... quests... comfy... i can't.

I'm a centrist instead of going to the extremes

Why would they do that? Fighting is the only thing to do. What are they gonna walk around and awkwardly talk in circles in town?

the daedra look cooler at higher levels

>beautiful forests and cities
they look fucking awful

people don't become bandits because they like it. socioeconomic pressure forced them into that life.

I should have checked my imperial city citizen privilege before I spoke

he put an equal amount of effort into his argument as you did. you said x was better and clearly his answer is that y is better. and thats all

Just saying na lol isn't a response

but you act like your argument was any better. thats all im saying, he put an exact equal representation for the opposing argument. you put no effort into your post either, its a greentext highlight of all the things you believe are better and all he did was do a greentext highlight saying the opposite

Oblivion is objectively superior to Skyrim in practically every measurable way. Honestly in what way is Skyrim actually better other than "nicer faces" and not having a (or having a slightly less) fucked up levelling system? Skyrim was literal fucking trash, it wasn't even an RPG. It was the first warning splashed on the wall for fans of Bethesda and even their sycophantic forums were regularly shitting on Skyrim and the arbitrary removal of skills and magic schools/spells/effects.

The writing in Skyrim was absolutely atrocious, the main quest and major side quests/guilds were an absolute shadow, at best, of what they were in Oblivion. Armor is all one piece now, degradation is gone, diseases are practically nonexistent, you cannot peacefully level skills like you could in Oblivion (training magic skills for example just by repeatedly casting spells on self was actually kino as fuck and very immersive for roleplaying)

The dialog in Skyrim was fucking horrendous. Literally hearing the same lines thousands upon thousands of times and the lines are all fucking garbage to begin with.

It has zero charm, it has zero personality, it has zero soul. Oblivion is 10x the game Skyrim ever even dreamt of being.

Attached: weynonpriory.jpg (1280x800, 333K)

It is when your statement is ya lol

I played the dogshit out of oblivion and have more fond memories of it than skyrim which I sort of just wanted to see what they changed. Skyrim was too watered down. Morrowind to Oblivion was a travesty in itself don't get me wrong. The change from oblivion to skyrim wasn't worth having more than 2 voice actors though. Skyrim isn't bad but the elder scrolls series have been nothing but downhill normie faggotry since morrowind.

>Skyrim
>First warning
OH MY SWEET SUMMER CHILD

Skyrim actually has a nice overworld to explore, Oblivion is one flat textured forest for the entirety of the game save Bruma.

Did you even use magic in Skyrim? Illusion school by itself is OP as fuck.

You've obviously never played Oblivion at all to say this about its world. Don't ever come here or post again.

Umm what are you talking about lol? I was born in the Winter.

He means the free DLC, the shield is from Firemoth: en.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Plugins
Make sure you extract them directly into the Data Files folder, not their own subfolders. If you did it right the .esp files from all of them will be in the same folder. If you did it wrong and each mod was extracted to its own folder then move all the files and folders in each of them into Data Files.

Attached: Firemoth.png (1600x1200, 1.42M)

you look at magic stars and they make you stronger
why would using a weapon or magic progressively make you more experienced with that weapon or spell?
you think skyrim is an rpg?

Attached: 1558414941115.jpg (720x707, 84K)

oblivion had half the size of devs of skyrim and still made more memorable locations and sizeable cities that housed more than 5 citizens

Yes you can, because it's not the games that are good, it's the mods.

based retard

Morrowind
>Weird world full of bizarre, interesting fauna, events, locations and flora, giant mushrooms sprouting evevrywhere, ash storms, kwama mines, Nix hounds, Red Mountain
>Culture felt aliean and unique, the different great houses had their ideologies expressed even in their architecture, you were called odd slurs by harshly voiced natives
>Society based on ALMSIVI, which is directly integrated into the gameplay as the plot deals with the morally dubious details of their ascension

Oblivion
>Generic tolkien fantasy forest with generic tolkien fantasy monsters inserted into the ranks of Morrowind hold ons
>Generic fantasy cities
>Generic fantasy plot of essentially demon worshippers trying to summon their oppressive dark lord and you on the side of the divine bloodline trying to stop their plan

They even talk generic fantasy in Oblivion.

>Fallout 3,4 and Skyrim main story was written by the same guy who wrote Oblivion’s Dark Brotherhood questline and some misc quests in Bloodmoon.
Really makes you think.

>listin kwama mines, literal copy pastes with 2 different enemy types, as a positive in morrowind
>someone called me a fantasy nigger, this world is so immersive
>pretending the world in morrowind isnt brown and/or green landscapes with enemies every 5 meters to make the barren wasteland look "alive"

>still looks like hideous plastic even with 100+ mods
I like oblivion, but trying to defend the characters' looks is stupid.

Oblivion's just a bad game in general desu.

yikes, oblivion cope really is as depressing as people say

have sex, stop seething and dilate in the order you'd prefer

I used to think Oblivion was better. However after playing both games again recently I have come to actually prefer Skyrim:
>the leveling in Skyrim isn't really that broken, and the combat in general is a lot tighter and more satisfying. I agree that getting rid of classes sucks, but getting perks was still a cool feeling of progression, whereas Oblivion has hardly any feeling of progression due to the leveling
>with Skyrim it feels like they made more of an effort to respect the lore of the series
>both games have bad main quests, but I would argue that Skyrim's is better, with some decent quests here and there
>oblivion's main draw seems to be that it's the comfiest game in the series, but at this point I almost feel Skyrim is just as comfy, if not more so. Skyrim really nails the feeling of having a cozy home or going to a cozy tavern in a fantasy world, I love being able to just cook or bake and work at the forge.
>skyrim's dungeons can feel repetitive, but I still think they're not quite as repetitive as Oblivion's caves
>skyrim still has shockingly good ambient sound design that really improves the atmosphere. outside of the music, the sound design in Oblivion isn't really that special

It does. But because enemies tend to level with you, perks have the benefit of making you clearly stronger than them with the right skills. perks are essentially a replacement of the class system where you choose what you specialize in

Oblivion landscape was boring as hell

I want to play Oblivion but it keeps crashing with the mods I want to use even though I'm using the same ones I had on my shitty old computer that was able to play it. Skyrim has annoying crashes when I try to open the map, use the item menu, ect but at least it doesn't happen all the time and I can go over 2 hours with no crash sometimes unlike Oblivion which happens every time I play the game for a few minutes making it unplayable.

They were at least interesting enemies, both design wise and lore wise. It's not like going through the literally cookie cutter caves in Oblivion facing bandits in levelled gear was such an improvement anyways

So it's a barren wasteland? What's wrong with that? It's far more unique than the generic fantasy forest, and the world has far more interesting things to stumble across than Oblivion so it only looks barren, as if copy pasting trees all around the place will suddenly make your 5 meter encounters more enjoyable.
I don't care what somebody called you lad why the fuck would I?

Attached: HaHI.jpg (480x360, 31K)

>>oblivion's main draw seems to be that it's the comfiest game in the series, but at this point I almost feel Skyrim is just as comfy, if not more so. Skyrim really nails the feeling of having a cozy home or going to a cozy tavern in a fantasy world, I love being able to just cook or bake and work at the forge.
for some reason I never got into this with Skyrim, but I spent loads of time in Oblivion simply walking to and fro the various houses I owned in the cities and stopping at taverns

unique doesnt necessarely mean something is good. And dont pretend morrowind isnt full of cookie cutter caves and dungeons either, most of the world is dotted with bandit caves with nothing of interest inside of them. Everyone sounding like a chain smoker doesn't make the game good either

i hate this mod so much

Oblivion is better than both Morrowind and Skyrim because the questlines are really interesting. Morrowind has some great ones as well but it has fewer overrall good quests when compared to Oblivion. Skyrims quests are just a fucking joke. Compare the Dark Brotherhood questline to Oblivions. Not only is it like half as long but none of the quests come even close to the best that Oblivion had to offer.

youtube.com/watch?v=kQyRAnf15_4

I'm through talking to you.

never beat that skeleton mage at the end
tried for like an hour ducking around and hitting it with various stuff and then just swamp back to the mainland

Don't pretend Oblivion had all these great quests outside the Dark Brotherhood. There's a reason everyone mentions the Dark Brotherhood when they refer to Oblivion quest superiority in Skyrim conversations, because it was leagues above nearly everything else in that game apart from maybe one or two, maybe a couple more if you include the expansion.

Oblivion's quests always had pretty good context behind them but it never made the actual process of clearing out the fort or ruin crawling with bandits particularly more exciting to play.

wrong
there were loads of good side quests that you would just stumble upon

>There's a reason people list the best example of what they're talking about
No shit, really?

all the games have bad excuses of sidequests that make you clear caves to progress, skyrim is really the only one that tried to be all cinematic and tell a sprawling story and look what it did.
>morrowind fighters guild is 100% only about clearing caves and ruins until someone asks you to kill the guild leader and take his place
>oblivion fighters guild has a small storyline but boils down to clearing caves and ruins
>skyrim questline is some bullshit full of plotholes that at least unlocks being a werewolf, but boils down to clearing caves and ruins

Please get me to play one of these games. I love JRPGs, CRPGS, WRPGS, and every RPG in between, but every time I start up Skyrim I get bored 20 minutes in and uninstall. How do you guys play these games?

play morrowind

mouse and keyboard, never tried using a controller

I make them incredibly character driven. I think of a character, autistically plan details about them, get mods that let me present and play those details (they'll exist) and then go to town for a load of hours.

Fuck you, Oblivion's fighters guild quest line was awesome.

>join the rival guild undercover to find out what they're doing
>they get you high on argonian drugs and take you on a raid
>kill a bunch of goblins in a nearby village
>revisit that village the next day
>turns out those were people, not goblins

didn't say it wasn't nigger but its still mostly clearing caves and ruins, with the exception that it turns into a storyline towards the end, then you clear out houses. My point is its stupid to argue which game has the better quest or combat when most of them are the same. I don't know why people pretend bethesda got lazy during the oblivion/skyrim era when they clearly stopped caring about innovation after daggerfall

Oblivion has a better world and quests, but Skyrim functions better as a game.

You can shit on Oblivion and Skyrim all you want but Morrowind brought a lot to the table that hadn't been done before

>Oblivion
Soul
>Skyrim
Soulless

It was also developed with the limitations of needing to work on the OG xbox and with a controller and cut the world's size to a cramped little island when the series was known for having huge sprawling worlds full of actually fleshed out towns, in Morrowind the most you can brag about is Vivec

>Daggerfall
>fleshed out towns
what the fuck

They look like actual towns at least. Morrowind was the slippery slope to having Solitude with 5 houses and 3 hobos

Morrowind was the perfect chord between Daggerfalls 60 something generic towns/cities and Skyrim's shitty excuse for a capital.

Alright Kirkbride

Don't give me that shit. Any argument that calls Daggerfall's towns in any way 'fleshed out' is doomed to fail. The whole game is as vast as an ocean with the depth of a puddle.

>cat doesn't even cast a shadow is this supposed to look good?

Reported for violent threats. The Chans are NOT a place for hate and extremism...

morrowind's fighters guild had some interesting stuff going on too though. half the questgivers were the corrupt guildmaster's cronies working for the camonna tong, and whenever you got a quest from one of them you could go find percius in aldruhn guild hall (the guy caius told you was trustworthy if you asked him about the fighters guild before joining) to get advice and sometimes alternate solutions for each of their quests. In the end you got to choose whether you wanted to follow the guild master (who has you wipe out every leader and questgiver of the thieves guild before betraying you) or join percius instead and kill all the corrupt leaders. both routes result in a dead guildmaster and you as his replacement, but how you get there and who gets killed off along the way is different.

the thieves guild quests would tie into it also, I only ever did both guilds once but I remember the thieves guild wants to get rid of the camonna tong influence in the fighters guild too, and lets you deal with some of those same thugs percius would have you kill through blackmail and bribery instead, which means you skip killing them if you later take the percius route of the fighters guild final quests.

>when the series was known for having huge sprawling worlds full of actually fleshed out towns
What the fuck is this?
Copy pasted houses and townsfolk and RNG guilds/stores isn't fleshed out at all.

Play Daggerfall

Morrowind>Skyrimjob>Oblivion
Haven't played any of the others. I think those 3 are okay/10 games that get bad reps for being memes. I'm not going to go out of my way to defend them though. They aren't good enough for me to care.

Anyone have a Skyrim Modlist if I wanna mod it out to become a futanari h-game?

Elves were disgusting in skyrim. The beast races are gross too but its appropriate.

>the elves were not like in my anime games

You're not wrong, but

>Skyrim
>first warning

The franchises future was set in stone with Morrowind. Daggerfall is the last TRUE to form elder scrolls game as the series was intended to be. The Todd howard scrolls began it's descent with Morrowind.

Zoomer thread

The world of Daggerfall is barely more fleshed out than a Minecraft seed.

Agreed

lmao so true

Who are you quoting?

thats not being contrarians its being right

I don't know what to tell you. I rarely play Japanese games outside of Ace Combat. But I don't watch anime so I don't play anime games. Unless Ace Combat is considered anime.

But really all the elves look like hungover Sarah Jessica Parker and it freaks me out.
