3 Members make the battles harder, fuck them over 4 party member jrpgs when you can just use the weaker members as punching bags

>JRPG
>Can't take main protagonist out of the party

Attached: 1541894898627.png (800x500, 1.16M)

But FF7 is piss easy

your right it should be 4 so i can have all the girls in my party

Doesn't really matter in FF7 because every character is the same aside from limit breaks
Fuck Chrono Cross and its clown car cast though

Attached: 1349217226441.jpg (720x439, 47K)

Any party based RPG should let you use every member in your party and design encounters around that fact

>using Aeris in your party
lol the bitch dies just use anybody else so at least you can work on leveling up their limit breaks

This is only a problem if the backup chars don't gain xp since it encourages you to only focus on a few characters

5 members > 4 > everything else

>JRPG
>Party members split up during game because reasons
>have to play as the character who's underleved

Fuck I hate this shit. Especially if you like rotating party members like me because the main character always ends up massively over-leveled compared to everyone else.

good luck getting Great Gospel then

There's literally no point in doing so

>JRPG
>15 total character to choose from
>6 permanent slots
AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Explain

This can actually be pretty fun, finding strategies to beat bosses that aren't "SPAM STRONGEST MAGIC/ATTACK"

>jrpg
>roleplay
>game?
>japanese
>?
every time

She fucking dies nigga, you're investing time to getting an ability that gets taken away before the first disc ends

that just makes it more valuable to me, gotta get it before it's gone

You mean 6

Attached: 1543717792127.gif (640x480, 98K)

I fucking love Suikoden, shame the series is basically non-existent nowadays.

haha, lol.
keep being more casual than the genre already is my man!
actually, the earlier games were a tad bit more difficult despite of having more party members on the field.

If you're interested in trophies then you need to get it I guess.

>play jrpg
>there aren't party members, just the protagonist

Attached: 1550505697966.png (544x572, 224K)

Actually never mind, put 6 in between 5 and 4

WRPGs do that all the time too.

>JRPG
>Game takes out main protagonist from party for a section
>tfw main protagonist was main DPS and now only have shitter party members
That was a nightmare.

Well, we could always bring it back via pachinko or gacha. Sierra in a swimsuit? Sierra in a nurse outfit?

Attached: 1541269024917.jpg (800x800, 392K)

yeah but then that means you have to go on the date with Barrett which sucks. Like haha so funny go on the date with the big black guy... until you realize it's just an unfulfilling series of scenes of Barrett calling Cloud a dumbass faggot

FFX/Paper Mario/Child of Light have a good compromise, letting you swap in the other members whenever.

>game gives you the feeling of being all alone and on your own
>nobody to help you
>become a hero through determination
thank you DQ1. you were and are still a really good beginner's JRPG.

Knowing Konami the only way they would bring it back is in Pachislot form

Attached: 018443_main_image_s[1].jpg (200x340, 38K)

FFX did this shit right. You can switch on the fly during battle as long as the characters are alive.

crono trigger letting you take boring goku boy out of the party and walking around as anyone else was super cool

>this little guy shows up
>”COME ON GUYS LET GET EM!”
>all seven characters proceed to summon gods, unleash their limit breaks and cast ultima

Attached: F3B47C60-95A9-4EFD-89D8-B7A9350B3CEB.png (376x385, 83K)

what if you cast frog on a frog??

>every character that takes action in the fight gets XP in the end

Attached: 1499966580623.jpg (720x647, 54K)

You can only do that by the end of the game though.

>game has 8+ party members
>you are basically locked onto one main party or else you have to grind the rest of the other members up to their level
>even if you do that you end up with an overpowerd mc because you cant take them out of the party

Suikoden 1 lets you use nearly all the characters that you recruit.

the cooler thing is that you can actually invite the boss into your party who you thought to be the final boss at first.
shame that he becomes fucking weak.

what the FUCK is up with these soulless models SHIT

>JRPG
>14 total character to choose from
>can only bring 3 at a time
>inactive people get 0 EXP

fuck you Type 0

it's some mod that turns the concept art into 3d models and it looks so off it's not even funny.

At least they actually give a reason for him being weaker, unlike some games.

>game has ultimate gear and weapons and a leveling system that goes way beyond a recommended level for the final boss
>everything in the game, even the extra boss(es) are pushovers so you never need it
>even worse those bosses give you gear you can't use against anything anymore once you defeat them

>They all have unique dialogue regarding what's happening in the game
>The same character can have different lines depending on who they are accompanying

Attached: 1533654509454.jpg (750x738, 61K)

They are better than they original battle models at least. The originals sucked too much dick, the new ones make the game more tolerable.

>They are better than they original battle models at least.

no.

yea they are, are you stupid? God, I hope you're just trolling, because I would feel very sad that your existence means that there might be a chance you will spread your genes.

dragon warrior monsters 2 was one of the greatest jrpgs of all time

I think final fantasy tactics is the greatest turn based rpg of all time tho

wow what a great mod. way to take perfection and turn it into ms paint tier fan-made garbage. truly looks better than the original models.

Attached: 33ddd1ggegvbx24g56gf2ee41r22h23tf.jpg (1335x701, 125K)

FFT's story is too boring. Plus I don't think the gameplay is perfect. I don't like how the game encourages you to basically move on from a job forever once you've gotten everything you can get from it. What if I just want to use a Dragoon the entire rest of the game?

>party member leaves party for plot reasons
>comes back with the same level

>games has 8 pretty cool playable characters
>can have 4 in party at a time
>focus on your main 4 and level them up and give them great skills and equipment
>during the final boss fight it forces you to use the 4 under leveled characters
>literally becomes impossible to finish the game without going back and grinding for hours on end
It was such a good game up until that point too

Not even the same mod I'm using. God, I hop you're just trolling, because I would be very sad that the nurse didn't take notice in your deformity and would mean that there are others like you that walk among us and even influence other people into thinking like retards.

>The originals sucked too much dick
Behold, the power of the superior version of FF7
youtu.be/VMRCNLNrmug?t=233

>just find a Cait and dance until you get a x100 EXP multiplier bro

But this is wrong, not the mod I'm using.

I just looked up the ending on YouTube. I didn't want to wait around for RNG.

dragoons are gay as shit though, who wants to jump all game, the remake on the psp fixed a bunch of shit from the original, pretty sure it made most of the classes viable

story was also bad ass if you didn't like it ur gay

>Change the leader of the party
>Overworld sprite/model doesn't change

Attached: DUDU7LpU0AA6Heb.jpg (250x200, 14K)

oh yea and some of the late game classes like Samarais weren't the best at everything they had certain debuts that were useful but other classes could out damage or had useful abilities that might be better for your team

the game actively encouraged you to mix and match abilities

That’s cuz materia was op desu

I never said I was calling the original game shit, I was calling the mod in OP's image shit.

It isn't though, the original game looks like shit. OPs image looks better, objectively.

Not true, the modded models look like they have more soul than square enix.

I could never get into 7th Saga, didn't they butcher the western release in terms of difficulty?
I loved Mystic Ark, it's spiritual sequel though

This is why I liked Breath of Fire 4's party system. 3 people fight while the other 3 can tag in instantly during your turn. No more swapping party members at save points.

>play JRPG

There is a patch that reverts the difficulty to match that of the japanese original if you are interested in that. I'll have to give mystic ark a try, I never did get around to playing it.

What JRPG allows you to have the most party members in combat at once?
Off the top of my head the GBC Lufia lets you use 9, is there any game with more than that?

First time I played the game I got it after she was already dead, because for some reason the game lets you do that.

Why are people so obssesed with realistic size models in FFVII? They look like absolute garbage in anything but battles, even more so than the super deformed ones

You would understand if you played the game. It was a cool concept that was completely different than any other turn based rpg and actually worked. Shame no games bother taking a chance anymore.

Is final fantasy 7 worth playing on mobile? I have it for iOS. I have never played FF7.

>that model

Seriously the only mod worth playing with this game. Maybe also the upscaled battle field textures.

There's literally no point in doing anything.

No, about how you don't actually control any party members.

One of my favorite things about Neverwinter Nights 2 was how easy it was to change it to allow you to use all your party members. If you wanted a challenge you had to adjust the difficulty but it was pretty awesome being able to have everyone with you, not to mention you don't have to miss any character specific shit since everyone was there.

Still raises the question of why the inactive characters are just standing around doing nothing instead of having the whole team fighting at all times.

>It's an RPG where there are several characters involved in the story but only a select few are in battles because of party size restrictions meaning that more than half of the characters are doing fucking nothing the entire game

what game?

fallout tactics?

I see no issue with party numbers as long as it's fun.
Though I'd prefer them having a limit of 6 max, like a lot of games seem to do.
Best thing a RPG to do would be use Front/Back rows.
Typical examples with EO or Wizardry (I think) is cool, but I also loved the fuck out of BoF IV's way of doing it.
Games should just incentivise team building and rotation by having situations where specific members are more optimal. Plus inactive EXP gain

Attached: 1447038835175.png (397x408, 291K)

Friendly reminder FFX solved this and all jrpg design problems by having all characters gain experience, having each character serve a niche or purpose, and allowing you to swap them on the fly in battle

What you need to know about Lufia is that 2 (the original release, not the remake) is really good, and the other 3 games are "ok"

Star Ocean 5.

Perhaps a case study on why that kind of thing isn't done more often.
Battles can turn into a visual clusterfuck, and since the game allows a bunch of enemies at once too it can become impossible to get out attacks unless they have super armor.
