What ever happened to Fang the Sniper? I think he makes a perfect Sonic rival since he's only motivated by greed, not good or bad. He tries to be slick and cunning, but his naivety, arrogance, and clumsiness holds him back. Overall he's a pretty entertaining guy. His gun and airbike are also pretty cool.

Fang is funny going up against Sonic, but he also works as a good rival for Tails. He could be like what Knuckles is for Sonic. Knuckles takes some design cues from Sonic, while Fang takes some from Tails. Blue and red are conflicting primary colors, while orange and purple are conflicting secondary colors. Fang's more incompetent and cartoony brand of villainy also make a better rival for Tails' more shy and innocent character. It seems like more of a natural matchup.
Fang was gonna be in Taxman's game Sonic Nexus before he started working officially with Sega, so if Mania ever gets a followup Fang might be a part of it.
It makes sense that he works for a good foil for both of them since he debuted in "Sonic & Tails 2" as it's called in Japan.
I want to FUCK his sister
Cowboys are always good.
Rouge more or less made him redundant.
He would be a really useful character to throw into games with actual plot, since they would let Eggman have an actually useful underling, unlike those bumbling Cubot and Orbot. Unfortunately for now Iizuka considers him a "sealed" character, only a part of the Classic series, same as Bark and Bean.
He's the Waluigi of Sonic and I love him for it.

Nack>Fang
Rouge is a graceful femme fatale kind of thief but she's not really a bad guy, she had a conscience and a heart. She can be buddies with Sonic & Tails and she has a thing for Knuckles. Fang is a bumbling outlaw that doesn't give a fuck about anything but money, and while he's not very competent, his endless tenacity and unwavering confidence in himself is endearing. You can kick his ass and send him running, but hell be back, arrogant as ever. They're pretty different characters even with both being thieves. And that's not even going into their designs and abilities.
Rouge really isn't a villain anymore. Fang could easily still be one.
We're reaching levels of autism never thought possible ITT
If anything Fang and Rouge would make better partners than Shadow and Rouge. Shadow and Rouge don't really have any chemistry since Shadow is such a boring character.
Fang didn’t last because he debuted the same time as Knuckles but Knuckles was much more significant, which is why Knuckles was a treasure hunter and had the hat in the OVA. But overall Bean, Bark and Fang got recycled into the Babylon Rogues.
Why the fuck does he have two names?
US and JP versions had different names.
Like Tails, giving a little more weight
I remember playing a fangame with him as the protagonist made with this old Mac OSX sidescroller engine
I always liked Fang, I hope he gets in something again even though modern sonic is literal garbage
And now Sonic doesn't really have any non-Eggman rivals anymore since Knuckles ended up becoming his buddy.
Fang and Knuckles were in development at around the same time. Nack was going to be his original name, but since it sounded too similar to "Knuckles" in Japanese, it was changed to Fang. I guess the localizers of Triple Trouble didnt get the memo, but it was changed to " Fang the Sniper" for later English games like Sonic Drift and Sonic Fighters.
I have no idea where the fuck the weasel part comes from. He was designed as a jerboa, an obscure kangaroo mouse kind of animal.
He's actually half wolf half jerboa. The only hybrid animal in the Sonic cast.
He's cool.
nice art
That's a weird mix. No wonder he's so screwy.
I remember reading something about how Fang's character designer owns the rights rather than Sega, and when he left Sega in 2002 he took Fang with him.
I can't imagine why he wouldn't have appeared in Sonic Heroes otherwise, he fits the role Espio has in that game better than Espio does.
Espio was fits the Team Chaotix theme though, why would Fang have taken his place? They were also able to use him no problem in Mania, and they had a picture of him in Generations
Characters made by other creative forces just tend to get neglected after they leave, even if fans love them. It happened to K. Rool from Donkey Kong Country and Adeleine from Kirby too.
Higashi made Fang for Sonic and SEGA owns him. His character Fang Wolf from his Knuckle Bear line seems to be an homage to Fang though.
I feel like it would be a Jesse and James relationship if you know what I mean
What is Taxman working on now?
He did some work on Freedom Planet 2's engine, then he set up his own studio (pic related).
Any word on what they're doing? It's been several months.
Cowboy characters are so 90's and earlier. That's why.
And yes, Sonic is a walking 90's festival sure, but design-wise it's kinda timeless, together with the other recurring characters.
Fang's just another example of Sonic character syndrome, they're relevant for a single game or two and then they're forgotten about and usually only appear in spin-off games or as a background character in anniversary games (other examples include anyone who isn't Sonic, Tails, Eggman, le funney robot helpers ecks dee or a Wisp), Fang suffers more than the average Sonic character with this as until Mania (debatably), Fang's last appearance was Sonic The Fighters. The wanted posters in Generations don't count.
Unrelated, but Tyson hesse may be working on the sonic movie
Even his theme in Triple Trouble was pretty cowboyish. Sounds like something from a spaghetti western.

It would be cool to hear it remade in the style of an Ennio Morricone arrangement if he ever does return.
It's a pain because the core cast of sonic is so good. Adding superfluous characters hurts that
It really wasn't really a problem until Knuckles Chaotix. Fang is pretty unique.
Ikr, characters like Shadow and Knuckles are unironically great characters and it's a shame that they're so underutilised nowadays in favour of le funney Sonic and Tails banter. It's also a shame that characters like Silver will forever remain under-developed.
>Shadow
>great character
Ehhh. His thing was done better by Metal Sonic.
Shadow's really only similar to Metal Sonic in SA2 where he's just an evil version of Sonic before becoming an anti-hero.
Ideal Sonic cast:
>Sonic
Cool protagonist
>Eggman
Evil villain with millions of robot minions
>Tails
Cute sidekick
>Knuckles
Cool rival that can get the upper hand
>Metal Sonic
Evil Sonic doppelganger
>Fang
Punching bag/comic relief rival
>Amy
The girl/anti-love interest
Good future.
The thing about Sonic characters is that they're essentially classic cartoon characters. They need to have very simple and well-defined personality, characterizations, and dynamic that can be applied to a wide variety of situations and plots. Every character in the cast should be able to have a simple yet distinct role in a game that gives them a valid reason for existing. Shadow's character doesn't really work in the Sonic series because most of it relies on subtext and character development, which amounts to a boring side character in every game after he completed his arc.
There's a lot of characters, no matter from which Sonic entertainment media, that make many others redundant, not just Rouge and Fang. No point on pointing out which is redundant.

You mean in SA2, right? Because ShadowTH needlessly over-complicates his backstory after the fact and then every game that came after (including his bio in Generations) proceeded to never reference it again, rendering that plot entirely pointless. Shadow would've been much better as a one off character.
Ian, please, stop shilling your comic for the last time.
Speaking of Ian...
That explains a lot why sega has tried to push him really hard to just be this "evil sonic" lately. He needs to fill any role in order to stay relevant as a popular character in the latest games just like rouge's pretty much shadow's tails at this point.
I really never understood this thing for Nack/Fang. He was only in Triple Trouble emerald stages and he was clearly a retard with gadgets that failed or much easier boss fights than Eggman. In Fighters he was a shooting spammer. And his only backstory was "treasure hunter" something that Rouge does it better
So, what's the big deal about him? Is it some comic shit?
I have two questions for this post:
1) Anyone here know what happened to the Mega Man comic? Is there a reason it was cancelled or was it just not selling well enough? Was it Archie or Capcom that pulled the plug?
2) There was an ARMS comic?
Why won't he return?
>1) Anyone here know what happened to the Mega Man comic? Is there a reason it was cancelled or was it just not selling well enough? Was it Archie or Capcom that pulled the plug?
It really wasn't very good. Ian kept on dragging his heels with plot-progression and wasting time with his OC Donut Steels, and the mandated Sonic crossovers killed what little momentum it had left.
There was an ARMS comic in production but the first issue got pushed back to January 1st 2019 and then further pushed back indefinitely.
We're hoping for a new Sonic game.
This has been rumored about every forgotten Sonic character, I remember when it used to be all about how Mighty was supposedly forbidden.

Wasted concept for a boring comic. Metal Overlord 2's Gem crotch didn't help either.
He’s obscure, but he can still be used in the classic games. He was in Lego Dimensions and the Archie comics a few years ago at least.
since classic is the topic of this thread, just a reminder you will be able to get Sonic Mania with PSPlus.
Already got it physically.
It's not complex. He's just a goofy character with a good design and a lot of personality. In his first appearance he has more charisma than most other side characters have in their whole career.
bump
The megaman comic died because they blew all their cash on the cross over comic with licensing issues and shit. All those dead sega and capcom franchises cost money. It was great to see Viewtiful Joe again though.
This but also Archie lost a lot of money with their failed kickstarter
Archie did a kickstarter?
>Lego Dimensions was developed by the same company that made Sonic R
Based.
Back in 2015 for Jughead, Betty and Veronica and Life with Kevin. It was no at well received way to fund those.
Everyone loves cowboys
these days he's just the "asshole friend" made even worse because as per Sega's current mandates "Shadows goals are his own and everyone else is a commodity to achieve those goals"
If this is the best they can do after making us suffer thru 3 games of his deepest lore then I'd rather he go back to being a no show.
but of course.
