If you watch/play any old Castlevania, or any old fighting game, attacks start with with a wind up pose then SNAP into the hit. It gives attacks weight and a pop to them. The trick is animators intentionally remove/neglect frames inbetween to give the illusion of speed. Basic animation skills. A good modern example, though I don't like the game, is Dragonball FighterZ.
For some reason, when JP devs are working with low budgets, they always fucking forget this and it makes attacks look too smooth and soft. King of Fighters XIV has this problem with some of its animations, too (Kyo's roll).
Western devs rarely make melee heavy 2.5D games; they're mostly always fully 2D and don't have the problem.

I thought it was on release, I still think it's good, but it's a step down from most of the previous titles in my opinion. Poor variety in attacks, with most being worthless, long boring hallway level design, and just a general lack of content compared to the earlier games.
At least the character designs are fantastic.

The inverting is used for puzzle solving. It's not like SotN where you're stuck in a version of the castle that wasn't designed for on-foot traversal. You can swap back and forth as needed. That's a clear improvement.

I'd claim that the level design complaint is subjectivity as well. It goes for a more classic CV approach where it's more linear, but that comes with the bonus of enemies being designed more interestingly and challenging than the other games.

This is after grinding out the Arrow Shard to max level both via crafting and via farming shards.
That said, I do agree that the Shards need balancing. Arrow is insanely powerful in the demo once leveled, moreso than any other tool in your arsenal. Hopefully there's better gatekeeping by making materials for higher levels of the Shard dropped by later enemies or something.
As much as I liked OoE, the castle was really disappointing. There was like only four parts, which were not very interesting (walking on books was fun though), and not very varied.

The soundtrack is pretty disappointing if you ask me. It's a lot of nostalgiabait that shoots itself in the foot by being worse than what it's trying to be. The tracks are very repititive and bloopy, whereas the other two GBA games make much better use of the soundchip.
I find it so jarring BECAUSE it tries to be some mixed abomination. Archaic movement mechanics for example are fine if the rest of the game is designed around them, but neither the enemies nor the map are.
I'm also really peeved by the card system. Whereas other games leave crucial upgrades both in plain sight, some slightly more hidden areas and as random drops, this game gives you very little indication of which cards you should be chasing and where to chase them, coupled with the process of finding out not being well designed around this lack of information. The worst is when you're expected to backtrack into dead end boss rooms, for which you have absolutely zero reason, so you can then farm some trick candles.

Makes attacks look a lot swifter and like they have real cutting force.
Look at SOTN; the normal swords have incredibly fast initial strike and a wind down animation on the back end if you just do one slash, but if you're in motion or follow up a second slash. That back end animation is cancelled and it makes each slash look like a swift slice.
On the other hand, the Greatswords have a slow, arcing animation that is completed from beginning to end, making them look hefty and damaging.
The hell? Japan is the only place that actually knows this, you've got it backwards.
Just look at the animation in DMC, Street Fighter, Ninja Gaiden, Tekken, Smash Bros, etc.
