There is no such thing as "classic" Halo. They all played differently.

It might not seem that different to you, but imagine if dual wielding had a dedicated button you could activate whenever you wanted, regardless of if there were any one-handed weapons nearby. Or if there was a dedicated vehicle Boarding button you could press whenever you want to make your Spartan "grab" for a vehicle.

This is the key difference. For sandbox elements, you have to go out into the map and find the right contextual situation to use them. For base gameplay abilities, you spawn with them, always have them, and can use them at the press of a button.

But he's acting as if it's new. The progression system in Reach is good though because it's just for unlocking cosmetic armor pieces, and customizing a spartan was one of the best things about Reach

Clamber is arguable, because technically you do need the context of having a Ledge to do it, and that requires going out into the map, so I can agree there. But it is still an inherent ability added to the player, not the sandbox.

There's not an offical map in Halo 5 that's enclosed enough to prevent you from doing this. In fact the maps are designed to encourage you do to them.

Think of it this way: if I'm on a totally empty field, I can still use all of h5's abilities except for clamber. They are inherently built in to the player and can be done at will. If I'm on a totally empty field in 2 or 3, I can't just press a button and board a vehicle. That's because it's not built in to the player, it can't be done at will, it's entirely contextual and based on what's happening in the sandbox. There needs to be an enemy-occupied vehicle to even have a chance of doing it.

Regardless, they were pick ups and you couldn't have sprint + jetpack or armor lock. 4 made sprint an inherent ability and 5 added abilities that are even worse than anything Reach had.

The reticle bloom was mostly cosmetic though. Also IIRC CE had weapon bloom as well so Reach didn't start that trend.

Reach's bloom is less awful then 3's random spread, at least you can mitigiate bloom via shot pacing and you have a visual indicator for it, wheras in 3 ther'e's no vidual indicator and it's always there. Not to mention that bloom also outright HELPED guns like the AR in Reach

Reach's bloom wasn't perfect, and the values were fucked on the DMR, but it wasn't nearly as bad as made out to be (the DMR wasn't even intended to be used up close or any closer then mid range, it wasn't meant to be a jack of all trades gun like the BR, but a more exclusively mid to long range weapoin, and bloom works fine at those ranges) and the TU which reduced bloom on precision weapons just made them even more OP then they already were, with the DMR becoming OP qas shit in particlar

Contrary to what says, It'll be even worse on PC since you also then have mouse accuracy. I'm personally hoping they come up with a brand new bloom solution: Either giving autos reduced bloom as well; or giving precision weapons zero/less bloom, but also a lower fire-rate to compensate, or by rather giving precision weapons MORE bloom per shot and a higher maximum bloom extent, so spamming actually is ineffective tpo address and , but also make bloom go away faster, so pacing is still viable.

The only time the population ever spiked again was at the release of reach and halo 4 and then it returned to its usual downturn at about the same pace, only now spread out across multiple games.

A person with an AR will never kill someone with a DMR at any range unless the person with the DMR misses. It has a higher TTK than the DMR and NR, bloom isn't even a factor.

reach is coming along smoothly. Flights plan to start sometime in June. People at E3 will be able to play through one of the missions of Reach. You no longer have to grind buying armor and helmet and other shit in Reach, it's unlocked just by playing the game.

Secondly, I disagree: Halo's core design goals is the golden triangle of weapons, grenades, and melee for combat tools, having even starts with pickups, and an emphasis on platforming. Halo, relative to other arena shooters, has always lacked complex movement options: There's nade jumps, couchjumps, etc, but that's about it.

Thrust, Hover, Slide, etc allows for more movement complexity without compromising the golden triangle (which equipment did), or compromising even starts (like armor abilities did)

And contrary to what say, increasing the map scale does not make 5 the slowest halo game in terms of gameplay: It makes it take longer to get from one and of thew map to the other (and even then it's only maybe, nobody has actually tested it on more maps then tuhe midship remakes or other pathways on that map), but

- the base movement speed is still higher which matters fdor stuff like target/aim tracking;
- the larger maps/base movement, as well as the extra movement mechanics also means that the player is doing more interactions and descisionmaking over a given amount of map space and time, which is THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR IN DETERMINING GAME SPEED
- The time to kill and animations are all faster

Ports take longer than you think, especially when they're adding standard PC features like fov sliders. They're not just copypaste jobs.
Also keep in mind that it took like 6 months to port ODST to MCC and they're still not done with Reach on xbone MCC.

This comparison already disproves anything you're trying to say. Look at the bottom screens, both of them move at the same speed and reach the end at the same time but still slower than H3. This clearly shows that midship already was a tiny-ass map and enlarging was more of a design choice rather than compensating for sprint.

This would be true if the theory was applied to more maps. What other maps can you confirm were enlarged other than Midship/Heretic/Truth?

The games just take longer. A BTB game in Halo 3 was over in 5-6 minutes, I routinely had them last 8-10+ minutes in Halo 4.
