MH has definitely had anime stuff, but it's also had a lot of grounded stuff. Old bow, old GS, hammer, HH, that sort of stuff. MHX fucked a lot of things up, and them MHW completely removed a lot of those grounded playstyles. Bow was my favourite fucking weapon. Charge and fucking shoot. You felt like a total fucking badass when you did a power shot and you got to shoot AGAIN, even that was reaching unprecedented levels of anime for bow. Now it's retarded dragon piercer spam or dodging around like a fucking retard spamming out arrows.

The reason people liked Oils is that it used the niche the SnS had and amped it up.
Oils were literally SnS only items that offered great versatility at a button prompt.
Oiled up SnS can go from partbreaker extreme to a mini hammer.
What Iceborne is added however, is nothing but new semi flashy moves that already really exist.
The Claw uppercut only seems to exist to latch onto the monster to then down them, and the new combo only seems to exist to be an alternative combo after a slinger shot.
They don't ADD anything to the actual playstyle, they just add different moves.
The worst part is the DB video makes it looks like the SnS doesn't even use the slinger any more than usual.

The point is Old GS was about positioning, had armor skills you could focus on that were not the generic +damage and it felt fast and satisfying to do them.

World GS feels like you just stand in front of the Monster, Hit, Shoulder charge, True great strike and sort of stand there.

The Hit and Run style that GS used to have is gone, replaced with a chunky damage race.

It doesn't though. You can change your directional input via the shoulder charge, which has like 50-75% damage reduction on it, so the only way you miss a strike is by sheer stupidity.

Yeah but you still need to actually land the TCS in a good position at the end, doing that occasionally isn't hard, but pulling it off consistently is far more difficult than the brainless instant charge of past games.
Not to mention that the critdraw playstyle enabled people to just do quickdraw attacks and run off instantly, it was the safest playstyle in the game and still fairly viable.

What would the new attack be? Sns has a pretty good moveset, an attack that launches you into the air if you attack on ledges(in gen at least), good attacks that flow into each other. What do you add that doesn’t overtake the moveset like world supposedly does with that one shield attack? Yeah oils are a buff that need reapplied every 2-3 minutes or whatever, but these buffs changed how and where I attacked the monster and how I used my arts.

Anyway I'm beyond happy with mainline's state, they are adding fun moves like MHP3rd did (Rapid Fire for LBG, the plethora of Gunlance's new chains like quick reload and full burst, etc) while maintaining the previous moveset instead of ruining it like the previous spin-off. For a while I was worried they'd lost their way but I'm glad X/XX's cancer lived and died with that one shitty entry and will never ever ever return in that state, with some of its moves coming back but being implemented in a much better way.

It's just normal MonHun gameplay but with added stuff, not butchered MonHun gameplay + gimmicks.
It's retarded to say that you MUCH shoot your Gunlance even if you have a melee-focused build just because you can shoot. The entire moveset is there but that doesn't mean you MUST use it, just as you don't have to constantly jump with IG or parry with LS. In the shitstain that is X/XX if you want to use new moves then you actually HAD to, since a good part of the weapon's moveset was cut or altered in order to "balance" the gimmick. Aerial IG's ground combo was literally simplified to a single button spam, and Brave Charge Blade required you to use the gimmick in order to access the weapon's functions.

With this Iceborne SnS you don't HAVE to use the new jump move, or the elemental/status combo if you are a support build that doesn't care for them, just the same you don't HAVE to get the previous normal combos/chains deleted if you're interested in using the new ones.

The fade transform slash is amazing defensively though. Personally I can only think of getting new moves from dodging to keep the flow going and maybe defining the use of it's many big attacks a little better and giving it a weapon that has both forms as swords like the Dante Devil Sword, I enjoy CB but that absolutely should have been for SA instead. I love the weapon as it is already though.

Pretty much, with Tri MonHun was introduced to the Nintendo fanbase in the west and I guess that idea stuck. 90% of people who played the previous entries on Sony consoles just got a 3DS and moved on with their lives. Nintendies however are incapable of doing the same.

But MH was already somewhat popular in the west when it was on PSP

The morph transform slash is pretty useful for backing off the monster I'll give you that. The only use I found for the regular axe Fade Slash was to reorient myself back to the monster while still doing some damage to it.

I usually run Evade Extender 3 in nearly all of my SA builds, not just for dodging/defense but also for mobility.

Evade Extender 3 rolls in Axe mode completely outpaces sprinting, allowing you to stay on the monster without sheathing, and you can still do the Morph attacks after the roll. It's also great for catch up to fleeing monsters and getting in some pot shots as well.

Yeah the standard one could go a bit further, and it'd be nice if the transform followup to it stepped back in instead of both going back again. Definitely agree on Evade Extender, it's my favourite skill in the entire game. I use it with every weapon I use, it's just too fun.
