RA combo does 760 potency
3x Atonement does 1650

You would skip goring altogether so you can do you more Atonement. Rotating RA combo and 3x Atonement is around 401 potency/gcd. Adding goring (goring, ra, atone) is only 386 potency/gcd. They might have adjusted the numbers on goring to match though, we haven't seen the skill.

It's the only class that is tolerated for standing in place during mechanics because their rotation is powerful but falls apart with too much movement.

The MCHs new gun they use for skills. It's actually neat because you can see all the different skills like the autocrossbow, the drill, and the chem thrower. They are flipping the weapon around for different moves instead of just firing it all out of the same area.

Pagos is, was, and always will be a far heavier grind than Pyros. Pyros is actually a lot easier, has a far better and interesting map (Anemos is v. close second) and the layout is pretty nice and forgiving. I'm not sure why you had such a bad experience in Pyros but trust me, i've gone through 7 relic weapons, it's far better in every conceivable way.

Honestly Hydratos isn't bad in terms of grind or finding parties. I've played on Light(what was Chaos) for a long time and i've never had any issues getting in parties or even being kicked for being low level, generally people don't care so long as you're not just leeching completely. Res, heal, do something a bit helpful and nobody will say a damned thing.
Thing about Hydratos is the map is awful. It's a completely flat rectangle with no mountains or hills, nothing to traverse, just an open plain with basically 3 biomes. Swampy ugly hotsprings with dead trees, an ugly flat plains and an average swamp. Enemies are spread far and wide, the bottom third of the map has factually no mobs and there's only one bun fate. Honestly you'll miss pagos compared to the trashheap that is the Hydratos map.

I'm still mad at that cutscene for having my tank char do absolutely nothing as Thancred, a rogue, fights a war head on and Y'Shtola gets rushed by the pld.

Back when I first picked up the game along with a couple of my friends, in the later Heavensward patches, I looked online for info about what the jobs were about thematically and how I could expect them to play. I found a guide for exactly that on Reddit and found Scholar to be very appealing by the description: a know-it-all tactician with a fancy hat and coat, who had all sorts of complexities to its abilities; part of their healing abilities were supplied by a pet fairy, they could erect barrier shields rather than simply fill HP bars, and their damage spells were more about poisoning the enemy to death than whacking them to submission outright. I was promised a very involved healer who could do just about anything, including damage, and had a relatively high skill ceiling. Needless to say, for the duration of Heavensward I was a shitter who kept the fairy on Sic and was super proud of mastering basic Cleric Stance use. But that doesn't change that I found Scholar to be very satisfying to play, I was aware that I could be doing even better and that excited me. Stormblood rolled around and while I couldn't play it immediately upon release that apparently was a blessing for Scholar like me since Squeenix gave it some buffs very quickly. With the crossclass actions mechanic changed to role actions and several skills getting pruned I got a much better hang of how *everything* I had access to works, and by now I feel like I've pretty much optimized my Scholar play and still find the job to my liking. Thus I'm saddened by the news that things are getting simplified even more in Shadowbringers, but I don't know if I can outright abandon my favourite job even if it'll be more about the healing and Broil on the side and less about the poison magic.

So as a tl;dr I love Scholar, but don't go picking up healers right now, just wait and see if their Shadowbringers incarnations will be attractive to you.

Never got to play it at it's height, so I'm not some nostalgia fag, but I've been going through it bit by bit during the free login periods they have from time to time, and holy shit yes it's worth it.
I hate using this word, but I can't describe it any other way than "Comfy". With a guide and trusts you can easily do everything by yourself and just exploring the world and stumbling into like 15 years worth of quests/storylines is awe inspiring sometimes.
I love both games, and they're VERY different experiences but if you like to solo, FFXI now is tailor made for you.

The camera work is what's better. This is free-cam, simulating what an actual camera man on a film set would capture on the job. Almost all the cut-scenes in ARR and on use static camera angles except for fight scenes, and even then they don't swivel- just pan and occasionally zoom or shake.

Sort of? The recent patch added the ability to "visit" other servers via a teleporter in one of the three main cities. There's some minor restrictions like being unable to buy a house or join an FC (guild) on servers you're visiting, but otherwise you can play as normal. No passive sharding like WoW though, so you won't have people phasing in and out of existince.

you can only post things to the marketboard and join guilds (free companies) on your home server, so they're mostly self contained for everything outside of actual dungeons and raids and shit
no idea how that compares to whatever since i don't really play mmos other than this one

3-way PvP has its advantages, namely in that it usually prevents steamrolling matches from happening. If the Flames weren't so stupid, you'd have a constant back and forth between the three teams that would actually make it engaging, and no team would be able to easily steamroll the other.

Flames gets meme'd on lately because a large portion of the people on Flames at any given time are bots, and they weigh the GC down considerably. That said, I've had many close matches in 3-way PvP that are really engaging and fun.
That's compared to Rival Wings, where in many cases it's ridiculously apparent which team is better than which. Since it's a 1v1 scenario, the shittier team just gets slapped and the match ends in 5 minutes. 1v1v1 prevents that, but it allows for its own retardation as well.

DRK loses Dark Arts, even though it was fine as it was. MCH gets replaced entirely, losing the Turrets and Overheat, as opposed to reworking the job and making it better. BRD announced as changing to be “less stressful.” This is on top of getting rid of TP and Protect rather than trying to make them better.

BLM and BRD are easy to get into and satisfying as fuck.
DRG and PLD are the absolute worst jobs in the entire game for the first 52 levels or so. Then they start getting some real cool shit.
MNK and SMN are pretty complex at the higher levels. Not for the faint of heart.
Try your best to get every job to about Lv40, more or less, so you get a feel for how they all play and pick your favorite. I nearly have them all maxed out but I wouldn’t recommend that unless you’re willing to sink an absurd amount of time.

The thing about Dark Arts is that the people who like it are lepers, as far as DRK players go, few in number and universally derided. It's the definition of a filler button because it exists purely to consume MP and have something to push between weaponskills and abilities, the entire job revolves around it, and there's very few situations where you wouldn't use it that don't involve MP regeneration. It's just not a fun mechanic.

The problem is that they all took way too much time to get to. I agree that shrinking the map size fucked over the mode, but a large part of the reason that Secure feels like ass is because NA players are retarded.
The old Strat of A left, B mid, C right (that the JP community still uses, btw) was how the game mode is intended to be played; Secure is about capturing as much area as possible and holding it for as long as possible.

But NA players are retarded and Seal Rock and Shatter have ingrained in people's minds that you CAN'T SPLIT UP NEVER EVER, so it defeats the whole purpose of the mode. You NEED to split up in Secure to be effective. But people blob anyway because it's easier to hide behind your team if you're garbage.
