Agreed. I think the real issue is that the devs or journos always feel like they need to make a statement about the game instead of just letting the story speak for itself. Halo 2 has a great story and has its own political system within it, but the difference is that it's unique and has a (somewhat) subtle message about staking your life on a lie, the horrors of the losing side of a war, corruption, etc. The characters and plot are strong enough to make the politics interesting. They actually add to the game rather than being the only thing about it.

within the gameplay mechanics and map design in cod, the ludicrously high ttk in black ops 4 lowers the skill ceiling in the game, the numbers advantage will always be more important than your aim and positioning as there aren't viable power positions on the maps to catch people out with the high ttk.

cod is not an arena shooter, when you double the ttk and add little else you fuck up everything in the game and transform it into something that doesn't reward your aiming positioning and timing, and instead rewards rounding corners with 3 guys and spamming many of the weapons with no recoil at someone behind cover.

Cover, and having smart positioning used to matter in cod, it no longer does as the ttk has been doubled yet map design hasn't been changed to accommodate it.

Yeah, imagine a boring fucking game where you shuffle papers around for people trying to enter a country. Oh wait, there was one, it was Papers Please and it was pretty fucking good, and had obvious political themes.
