Take the P3D pill already and stop giving money to Gopnik gangsters. Literally published by Lockheed Martin.

What are some good simulators that let me fly the death cruiser?
P3D. Good for civil aviation, great for military aviation.
>Laughs in Falcon 4 BMS
Xplane either though it's an MD 11.
Falcon's avionics are inaccurate shit catering to ignorant simdads.
P3D's combat sucks and the clicky cockpits are not worth the money you spend on them.
Sorry, I want to jump ship from DCS too, but it's the only thing worth playing for a combat sim.
Yeah, this, this is objectively still the best combat sim if it weren't for the fact that the multiplayer is dead and graphics/design is dated.
Falcon 5 would eat DCS' lunch.
why is Aeroflot so horrendously bad at flight safety? the entire fucking Alexandrov Ensemble died in a crash
WHOOP WHOOP
PULL UP
>F-16 modeled on NASA data
whatever you say
>P3D's combat sucks
I think this needs some elaboration.
isn't most of Tacpack FC3 tier? Can you even change things like radar PRF and does it distinguish between pulse doppler radars and monopulse radars? Because that's pretty fucking important for a combat sim, and I haven't heard of P3D having that functionality.
>dude designs from the 50's still work guys
>plane burns to a crisp on the runway
>cyka
>that one time some dumbfuck pilot let his kid fly the plane
>that cvr recording of them trying to recover the plane from a dive
Shit like that is the stuff of nightmares.
Can I fly _my girl_ in P3D and operate the radar to the standards of 1980's Russian radar technology?
Why would you want to fly some commie plane?
The combat is extremely simplified. It's missing a lot of the nuance and avionics specificity of DCS because, even though the aircraft are modeled extremely well, the weapons aren't. Aim-7's will track long after the host aircraft is blown to pieces, Aim-120's simply guide toward a target, they don't even really have blind spots or accept high frequency jamming. They just fly toward something you lock onto. 'Locking' in P3D is literally just a distance and visibility check. The mechanics of radar aren't really implemented aside from 'see guy, shoot guy'.
You can make the argument that it's superior simply because the planes are cheaper and all that shit I mentioned is for autists anyway. That said, it's not really a 'sim' if you aren't experiencing the drawbacks as well as the advantages of the planes you're flying.
I don't think anything is going to top the DCS Tomcat for a long, long time for instance. Simply because it has all of the same drawbacks the original had on top of the advantages. Even if the engine it's running in is a crappy pasted together mess cobbled from the Flanker game they made in the early 90's.
You're not making a very good argument. The F-5 is also _my girl_, but what's the point of the F-5 if I don't have a partner to dance with?
I wish the mig21s campaign wasn't so terrible
I wish the Mig-21's developers weren't so terrible.
>Still technically beta
>SPO is still fucked
>So is SAU autopilot
>So is the ASP gunsight
>So is radar ranging
>Biggest FPS drop of any module
>No one cares to fix any of this
>Radio silence on major problems like performance issues
>But huge bluster and celebration over starting new projects that will probably have equally bad problems for eternity
Man fuck Leatherneck. I'm convinced Cobra was the glue holding that clownshow together.
Here's to hoping Deka and their chinkshit roadmap brings us better soviet-era planes.
All of them. The 737 max is in every modern flight sim as an addon or mod.
>When your jets had less work put into them than a ford pinto
just play ace combat lmao
Kek.
I like both.
Yeah but DCS's F-14B is probably the best quality sim we have right now, it even includes Jester so I can say I have friends
why not both?
Said Pinto would probably fly better, too.
I only vaguely pay attention to flight sims because that's what my dad played. What happened to MS Combat Flight Sim? What happened to MS's sims in general?
Jester is a better friend to me than 90% of anyone I've ever flown with in DCS.
He's 10/10, would play volleyball with in our speedos in a non-homosexual manner after our sortie.
I still can't get over how good DCS can look. What are your specs?
MS Combat sim and almost every Flight sim Microsoft was making got completely hosed because Microsoft became greedy cunts and axed the entire ACES team who made them after 'Microsoft Flight'. Their games-for-windows-live attempt to make MS flight Sim into a game as a service with tons of microtransactions and simplified to be played on a keyboard or with an Xbox controller. It didn't even make it out of beta before it performed so terribly that the whole thing was cancelled and the team was laid off.
However, as a bright side to this story, the entire ACES team was picked up by Lockheed Martin and was contracted to make P3D, the sim you see in the OP.
It's a great game but it's not cheap and it's mostly focused around the flight sim aspect for Lockheed's demos and trade shows. It's good for what it is and is probably the best sky-trucker simulator.
The stuff with DCS is about modern fighter jets, and is a world away from that except in some corner cases where the two intersect.
>What happened to MS Combat Flight Sim?
Franchise died. Check out the IL2 series for probably the best WW2 combat sim experience (no clickable controls in cockpit, but I don't think MSCFS had that either).
>What happened to MS's sims in general?
Microsoft drove them all off a cliff. Flight Simulator lost popularity as the game market expanded, and tried going F2P with "Microsoft FLIGHT" before dying. The franchise rights were split between Dovetail Games (Entertainment) and motherfucking Lockheed Martin (Commercial & Academic). Dovetail drove their cut into the ground with the failed (canceled) Flight Sim World, while LockMart literally hired the MS devs and continued development with Prepar3D.
MS Train Simulator franchise/studio morphed into Train Simulator 20XX(Yearly title) and the devs are creating an Unreal4 version called Train Sim World. That's all done by previously mentioned Dovetail Games, and it's the meme $5,000 for all DLC on steam.
980Ti, I-5 4690K 32 GB Ram.
That's not my screenshot, that's from Heatblur's promo site
Man, that's disappointing. I remember years and years ago him building multiple new systems just to play FSX with his full stick setup and everything, and MS Flight looking like total shit (and FSX getting a Steam version, oddly, that didn't support third party addons). Good to hear the devs' talent isn't being wasted, at least.

Now there's a connection I didn't realize. Always found it funny that all the 'X SIMULATOR 20XX' ripoff shovelware shit always uses the exact same italicized Impact font as the old MS Flight Sim logos, and Train Sim is the only one that doesn't.
should mention too that as beautiful as Digital Combat Simulator DCS:World looks, it traces it's lineage to Su-27 Flanker
These are very old franchises and peak boomer core (we call them simdads)
>and FSX getting a Steam version, oddly, that didn't support third party addons
Yes it does, I don't know where you heard that. I'm using the PMDG 737 and ORBX with no problems.
MS ditched the PC market to chase console kiddies with the Xbox.
numerous addons such as JS4100 by PMDG, and I think the MD-11 are broken by steam... there are in fact addons which can't run with it.
give citation
I might be mistaken, then. For some reason I remember some hubbub about some version of FS on Steam (not Flight, a proper one) that wasn't playing nice with any expansions or add-ons other than MS's own FSX Gold and their own extra stuff.

here let me hold your hand
I think it's annoying, as well. At the same time, the Sim market just kind of died in the west.
Now if you want really good sims it's either giving your money to slavs or government contractors who charge too much.
To be fair, the Slavs don't do too bad of a job. They just have terrible business practices.
And to be fair, I've already spent waaaaay too much money on DCS to seriously consider abandoning it at this point, so maybe the DCS vs P3D argument isn't for me.
I used to think ED made the best modules, but Heatblur blew them out of the water with the Tomcat. I wish HB would have stayed as a module dev but since they got picked up by that company I think they're pretty much done. I would have given my left testicle for a Heatblur Tornado GR4
kill yourself ass combat babby
I really hope that's not the case. I know they probably got talent sniped, but I'm hoping they create another module for DCS before they're done.
Probably a pipe dream, but we'll see. They still have to make the F-14A before they leave to do anything else.
don't be that way
Also that speculation for the company that picked them up just being a front for the CIA is pretty compelling.
Can I use Tacan yardstick to track my friends when we're flying so we can stay in formation?
