The problem with classic is far simpler than that and it cannot be disputed either.
Warlocks are by far the best class in the entire game. It's not even close either. Watch any vid that rates the classes, out of 5 a Warlock will get a 5 in PvP, a 5 in PvE and a 5 in utility / ease of play. Warlocks shit on every single class in the game in PvP. A rogue can sneak up on you, get the most ideal opener ever and that rogue will still lose. SL locks are literally unkillable, I fucking wish I had the math that I read on how much effective health a lock has accounting for his damage reduction he's getting from SL, 2 Void Walker sacrifice shields, healthstones and Soul Stones, without even counting in any of your own pots or bandages or anything, the amount of health you have to burn through while you're in a damage race with somebody who has you dotted up who can fear you numerous times, who can terrify you with death coil. A fight with a lock is a race against time and an SL lock is a fight you simply cannot win, even if that lock played like absolute shit you still wouldn't win.
So is there anything that makes this even worse than it already is? Yes, yes there is. Warlock is the best class in the game, but you know what? It just so happens that the best race in the game can pick Warlock. The fucking Orc. Now you have to deal with a lock that has a near 1 in 3 chance to completely negate your stun. Do you have any idea how many classes just outright lose to other lesser classes if their stun doesn't land, nevermind when they're going against something as gamebreakingly strong as a Warlock? 1 in 3. At all times. Doesn't need to be activated, is permanently up.
Anything you try say against this has been said before, and it's wrong.

Bow mastery is worthless because ranged weapons don't have glancing blows and the BIS ranged weapons are fucking Crossbows anyway. +5% damage vs beasts? Negligable. Regen? Lmao
And yet despite this, Trolls racials are racials done right, they give small little perks here and there. Orc and to a lesser extent Undead are racials done wrong. We've already discussed in depth why Orc is bullshit but let's talk about Undead real fast.
Undead single handedly make alliance warlocks the least played faction/class combo in the game. That's just how powerful WotF is.
Classic is garbage, there's no actual choice to be made, you're pigeonholed into choosing orc or undead.

You'll be at a notable disadvantage in all levels. Orcs get stun resist which is good for PVP, blood fury which is a dps boost, and extra pet damage. Trolls have shit racials which is why nobody ever played them except "that girl" who played a female troll with the one cute face. Tauren have warstomp which is ok for pvp but more situational since you'll be kiting most of the time.

26 spell dmg is actually sick. If you just do quests without any luck in dungeons, you could easily wear it until 60. Quest rewards for the very most part don't give spell dmg weapons at all.

PvE servers have no pvp anywhere, unless you activate it.
PvP servers have neutral zones after the starting zones at lvl 20+, where you can get attacked.

PvP you can kill people from the other faction outside of starting cities. PvE you have to flag for PvP first to be able to be killed (by typing /pvp). PvP servers are more fun but attract more tryhard neckbeards.

Green Zones are your zones. Red zones are enemy zones. Basically their low level areas (1-20). Everything else is yellow. When in a yellow or red zone, you can be attacked by enemies. In a green zone, you have to attack them first before they can attack you. PvE servers just make everything Green. It's retarded and is rightfully called carebear servers because of how massive a part of the game wpvp is, while leveling and at max.

On PvE you can't kill opposite faction anyhwrer except in battlegrounds or if someone has turned on PvP. This means you won't get ganked when you are at 20% health after fighting a group of mobs past level 20 unless you turned it on.

On PvP servers only the level 1-10 and 10-20 zones have no PvP. An alliance inside horde zone can't attack horde but horde can attack ally and vice versa in alliance zones but only for the two first zones up to level 20. Once you go out into any 30+ zone you can get killed by any opposing faction member at any time.

you can gank them easily, maybe it'll be harder against druids like sodapoppin and less satisfying because you know they love pvp of any kind
at most they'll have 2-5 people on them at all times

Battletech (the game) is pretty modern, but I guess the franchise is pretty boomer tier.

Any caster class can get to 60 in greys. The only classes that actually need weapons/stats are melee classes. Try leveling a rogue, unable to find a decent sword/dagger and you'll want to gouge your eyes out.

RPGs don't have any transferable skills, since they about learning, and singleplayer games are very easily cheesed. In multiplayer games, everything is 99% discovered, so it's about execution. If you're decent at any multiplayer game, you'll be fine. Assfaggots, fighting, even turn based strategy, card games. Even shooters, though you'll probably struggle because current shooters are for brainlets.
As always, for every game, if you have decent reactions and a decent IQ, you can perform at a top tier level in a couple months at maximum.

you can always play one of the thousands upon thousands of older games that require no subscription, but if you're still gonna play classic no skin off my ass.

In world PvP, it's about having the situational awareness to avoid a very untimely gank. In this environment, it tends to be 1v1, and dueling skills are important. You could always try to get some nearby friendly guards or hostile mobs involved, but halfway decent gankers rarely get caught up in that. Learn how to kite, and hit and run. Don't be afraid to run from an enemy you can't beat.

In battlegrounds, fights tend to involve more people. If you get caught up in a large group fight, finesse and crowd control start losing out to tankiness, healing, and especially raw damage output.

I used to constantly piss off my guild members back in Wrath thanks to the toy set, but I never stopped because I was already in that guild for years and considered one of the core members so I knew they'd never kick me no matter how much I annoyed them as long as I kept preforming during actual boss fights.

There's a private server called henhouse where you start at max level, best gear, engineering items, etc. You can duel and kill there as much as you want. You can try all the classes.

It might take a while. 1v1 pvp is simple procedure, but you have to know what to do to every class, it's nice if you're fast, and it's nice if you have a plan B for everything that goes wrong.

WoW is so mainstream though, so you have to remember that 95% of the people you play against will be complete shitters. So there's not so much pressure to git gud. It's really a personal satisfaction thing when you can kill multiple people, geared people, or skilled people.

you should probably add that considering WoW is so mainstream it has been theorycrafted to death as well so the top 1% of PvP players will be inhumanly good, like don't even consider getting on their level. But user probably wasn't even aiming that high.
