It's hard not to coming directly off of Warcraft 3, which had a great story and characters and factions. It was complex, well-planned, and there was a lot going on at once. All of the factions get a huge flavor bonus from this, especially the meta races like Undead and Orc.

It isn't utilized correctly in WoW and a lot of the original material is shitgarbage, but it's still Warcraft 3 at its core. It's to be expected that players would pretend to be playing a better game.

This poll is very interesting, although obviously has issues in data collection.
Thoughts:
Hunter low popularity on both sides. Hurt by the fact that it's perceived as casual, as well as being the utility DPS.
Priest is low in both, I imagine because most people that played Priest are rolling Shaman/Pally this time, like me.
Warrior incredibly popular on Ally because of Pally synergy, which is the second most popular. Not as popular on horde side because Shamans work as well with Rogues as with Warriors, so that splits the population.
Rogue population on Horde also means less demand for Druids (since they are the other stealth class), which has the inverse result on ally, with more druids. Also debatable about night elf vs tauren perception, since night elf is unarguably better.
Warlock more popular than Mages. I assume because, like Priest, most people in this thread already played the "generic" class, and want something different. Also helps that with greater awareness of class viability people are really considering the more unique classes as a force to be reckoned with.
Not at all accurate to what the general population is going to pick, but if you want to take a cross-section of semi-knowledgable people that have played WoW before, it seems to be pretty accurate. Hopefully all the plebs drag numbers down, I don't want to roll to the most popular class (shammy), although it is looking like that might be the case.

You can solo things other people can't, you're always the premier DPS pick for anything, you can use more or less the same spec for PVE and PVP so no goldsink, you can AOE farm like a champion, you can port around the world in a world where travel time is extensive.

You also have very few bad PVP matchups, basically some warlock specs, good shamans, and rogues can be 50/50

What do you guys think about the developers making balance changes to the classes / items and tier sets so that more specs are viable in raiding and pvp. Example could be that Shamans, Paladins and Druids all get the proper tools and itemisation to tank.

I think for all the expansions it's something like thirty hours of cutscenes for the main scenario alone. Like even if you magically instantly did content you'd be watching a movie for a few dozen hours.

It's suggested that if you wanna boost your character you just spend a few days watching all the cutscenes on youtube

The problems I had when I tried out FFXIV as a tank (Gladiator only so far)

I stopped around lvl 20ish, when I realized I was absolutely not meant to just do all the sidequests, finished Ul'dah's first part and visited the other 2 main cities. Ul'dabest though. Not sure if I should push through. High point was the first tank tutorial challenge, the ones after that were lame and way too easy. I appreciate that it teaches you the basics of your role though, like positioning, how to pick up adds, your range for AoE threat etc.
Not sure if I should push through it, if it gets later better, but so far it just seems like it's not for me. Really wanted to give DRK a go, but that seems ages away at any rate.

i think ff14 is good for a very specific type of player but im certainly not one of those and i absolutely dont get why they think its good. i can certainly see how amazing the crafting system is but given that square doesnt give a shit about rampant botting youre better off not wasting your time on it and just buy gil instead, the convinience crafting brings isnt worth the massive time investment on its own. the classes are all shit designs, worst ive ever seen in any mmo except summoner which is just a wierd mix of wow classes but at least somewhat enjoyable to play because 123456 123789 123456 is NOT my idea of a cool rotation no matter how many OGCD they give me, and classes like ninja need to be killed with fire what the fuck man they tried to hard to appeal to oldschool final fantasy fans and totally forgot this shit doesnt fly in mmos, their design team must be on some sort of wasabi crack 24/7, anyway the story except HW is 100% cringe shitfest written by some 12 year old after he watched shonen high school anime and the small levels ruin the whole mmo feeling, shits worse than sharding, why do i need to pay fucking 15 for this instanced shitfest? fuck that game seriously
