literally never heard of these games
hedon and ion maiden suck tho
t. angry incel
Hedon sucks ass
2019 is a weird year. Except for Rage 2 which is mediocre, no major FPS have been released, but the indie market is booming on the other hand
Wouldn't say that about Hedon
Prodeus on the other hand...
Dusk is the only one of quality. Great level design, gamefeel, art, music, sound, interactivity.
t. tranny
And soundtrack, my boy Hulshult doing to good stuff
We can't move forward by moving back.
don't forget Amid Evil
honestly lads I've been absolutely pleased with vidya for the last year kr so, indies are saving FPS from the dark pit it had fallen into, and so many other great titles have released. I fucking love vidya again, it was a rough couple years but things are looking up again for a little while
if moving forward involves walking through a corridor and pressing F to pay respects I'll pass
FPS is the most fucked over genre by consoles. Playing any shooter with a gamepad vs a mouse is a completely different game and must be designed differently. It's pretty easy to have some form of console / PC gameplay parity with most other genres, but FPS is a watered down dying husk due to control limitations. We need an indie FPS resurgence on PC.
'moving forward' ruined the genre for nearly a decade, I agree that we can't just keep making retro-FPS for ever, but it's necessary to step back to when things worked to start innovating again
>Hedon
steamcharts.com
its garbage and the dev shilled the game here, only to get BTFO
boards.fireden.net
What's Hedon?
I like the MC
A Hexen like game running on a Doom source port, I found it from watching a review by Icaruslives
this, Amid Evil fucking rocks
We haven't moved forward since late 2000s, most mainstream shooters are clones of Far Cry 2 or Modern Warfare.
Last innovative mainstream FPS was Crysis.
Looks crappy desu. Too bad.
The problem with Amid Evil (And Ion Maiden) is that they're both in EA.
How long has it been?
You forgot amid evil
Only Dusk and Wrath are good.
The rest utter trash.
Shit.
Now I need to play Crysis again.
dusk and ion maiden suck mega ass
haven't tried hedon
>Dusk
Based retard.
>Dogshit weapons
>Dogshit level design
>Dogshit non-existent AI
Dusk literally fucks up the core tenants of what makes a FPS good and that's before you even get to the literal trash tier lazy art.
Ion Maiden and Wrath are the only two that look to be anything other than hot garbage.
contributin'
there's this too, but kinda janky
>EA
What? Eastern America?
I can't get over the artstyle, it just screams "13 year old's deviant art page". The perspective on some weapons looks ridiculous
Early Access
Honestly the only thing I care about re: Hedon is Alexander Brandon's song for it. Other than that I can't muster the will to give a shit.
Whatever happened to that stupidly edgy looking shooter?
Which one?
The one with Not important or Darkness?
There are branching paths in FPS game design and the industry has gone down the wrong path. On one hand you have mouse-based, skill oriented "retro" shooters and on the other you have mainstream, "modern", aim down the sights, console friendly shooters. These games are designed in completely different ways.
Modern Console Shooters
>iron sights shooting
>minimal enemy movement to make iron sights system function, "shooting gallery" design
>simplified hitboxes to accommodate lack of aiming finesse.
>hidden auto aim to help with joystick controls
>press button to melee / initiate murder cutscene
>weapon wheel inventory system, must pause the game to change guns
>linear, action movie design, move the player from one extravagant set piece to another
>constant breaks in the game for cutscenes or "immersive" first person animations
>event based design - gameplay is tailored to specific, scripted scenarios and events, the game drives the players to one, planned, repeatable experience.
Retro PC Shooters
>smooth, immediate mouse-based aim with no iron sights
>varied enemies with complex movement, verticality and more varied sizes / shapes
>1,2,3,4,etc. inventory, can quickly switch between varied weapons
>open, complex levels which the player must pay attention to in order to navigate
>no cutscenes, movies, quicktime events, no breaks from player control
>complex hitboxes and dependable damage outcomes
>systemic design - gameplay oriented around unique AI behavior and game rules allowing for emergent combat encounters and open, dynamic experiences.
Neither. Was kinda sci fi from what I remember but was like organic guns and stuff. Wanna say it was called like agony or something. Remember it got advertised here a bunch and then heard nothing of it.
Scorn
Supposedly still in development, but the last new article on their site was last August, so hell knows really.
Yeah that was it. Looked pretty bad from what I remember.
Worse, we've actually lost progress. Thief 1 pushed the first person genre forward with sound and light. An entire game where you listen to know where your enemies are and sound travels realistically.
Today we have xray vision, endless radars, mini-maps, and tagging systems as a lazy work around.
FEAR had revolutionary AI, that would analyze each situation and use whatever tool or strategy was least costly to reach their goals.
Today AI amounts to a state machine of idiot guard on patrol vs. full agro shoot / take cover / shoot / throw grenade.
Soldier of Fortune had the most in-depth gore system ever developed, with chunks of flesh comping apart with each bullet or slice.
Today, shooter gore has done little more than use blood decals and ragdolls.
All these revolutionary ideas and tech have gone nowhere. Everything has been distilled down to cheap mainstream trash for the COD audience.
I really love the bio atmosphere, but what we've seen so far was dreadfully little, so I'm not holding my breath.
the artstyle is wonky, but the levels look and play really good
anyone played unloved? It was on sale and I was thinking it might be worth gifting a friend a copy for some co op
I played the Doom mod version, don't know about the Steam one
This pains me.
The aesthetic was cool but the rest wasn't promising.

Thoughts?
Eye rape aside, it looks fun
I do agree that there are different branches, but presented dychotomy is just wrong, for example if we take Halo, game that started console shooter trend, it would fit closer in "retro shooters" category.
I do agree that in many ways there is actually regress.
please read all posts before replying
Amid Evil is one of the prettiest FPS games I've ever played
based project warlock poster
One of these is not like the others.
Please delete these toxic products that keep us in the past.
Yeah I dont think we've moved forward at all. Story based FPS neglected the actual shooting mechanics on display in these games, Id argue the only modern shooter to do adapt this well is DOOM but I just alienated half the people reading. The most influential shooters bar none have been
>Doom
>Half Life
>Crysis
>Modern Warfare
>Overwatch??
>DOOM
in my opinion just lookin at how things are going. Looks like overwatch and doom legit reinvigurated things.
I found it too hard on the higher settings everyone has a fuck ton of health.
>crysis
>innovative
>literally advertising your game as "boomercore"
cringe. This game better be fucking amazing
Crysis and Quake 2 are innovative in the same way: graphics tech.
>gzdoom thing with demon whores
not sure how to feel about this
gog release when
this sums up why I hate human revolution so much and love deus ex. not to mention HR cut back on the RPG elements like completely removing the skill system. what a shit game.
Prodeus looks fucking disgusting, what is this visual vomit
>DUSK
Fun to play but looks like shit, even compared to Quake 1
>ION MAIDEN
Very solid, maybe a bit on the generic side compared to the other build games, at least from what I played in the preview
>WRATH
Hoping it's good, digging the Quake 1 look
>HEDON
Eh, artstyle is kinda shit, couldn't get hooked
>PRODEUS
The pixelated filter looks terrible, but they got the Evilternity guy making maps so it might be good
>AMID EVIL
Very cool levels, fun weapons, a bit on the easy side even on the hardest difficulty. Best played with Warrior mode (pistol start).
>PROJECT WARLOCK
Fun but way too easy, artstyle is too busy and the levels are a bit boring
at least quake 2 was a satisfying game to play through, and had a bitchin soundtrack
Probably on release, which should be in a few months
>lived long enough for arena shooters to make a comeback
Thank you Jesus, Amen.
wouldn't call it amazing but it's definitely on par with IM and Amid Evil
has a very slow start so don't expect much from the first maps. I guess the Hexen influence does make it boomercore. The start feels like a game ripped from Ross Game Dungeon, one of those old classic adventure games where you have to figure shit out and read clues to progress
I liked it most for the comfy atmosphere
>boomercore
can we not do this
Hedon is junk. Should have known when it advertised itself as a"boomer core" shooter
This whole thread was created by the Hedon guy chucking his shit game in a pile of other similar ones to keep on shilling, btw. Can easily identify him as the only person who keeps saying the game "is good" and "amazing"
The fapbait OC in the banner should have told you that
I thought Project Warlock was gonna be junk until I got it for free, then it was junk until the 2nd episode. Really only shines at the end though.
>le epic pixelshit 'retro' shooters
I liked it. The Arx fatalis inspiration is definitely there
PW has some dope aesthetic and combat but the level design just feels limited to me
that's because maps have no elevations or stairs of any sort
it's on par Wolf3D levels
Exactly. I was never a fan of Wolf3d
The rest is pretty good tho
Not just that, but also every single room is either a box or a rectangle. No diagonal walls.
I don't want your culture to move forward.
Played Dusk and it's meh. (Love the soundtrack tho)
Looking forward to Ion Maiden
I want more duke nukem style games
>big tough guy
>chick magnet
>action junkie
>fun quotes
>fun gunplay
Holy fuck
Particles everywhere
>weapon wheel inventory system, must pause the game to change guns
literally what games
Anyone remember the name of the soulslike game with guns from last year?
>paying for doom wads
Jesus christ, are people really this dumb?
>Hedon
LMAO
cyberpunk?
Nah, but it was very grey and blue.
Dusk and ProDeus wouldnt save you even a bit of money on a sale if their lives depended on it. Those games use unity or some random inhouse engine that imitates the retro style VERY BADLY.
Hedon, IM and WRATH are the ones people should look up for since those are made in authentic battletested engines (idtech1/gzdoom, BUILD, Idtech2/quake respectively) and made by people who fully gives a crap about quality.
>whoooo wants some Wang??
Was this any good?
I wish reboot Lo Wang is as pervert as old Lo Wang.
Did the devs make it epic store exclusive, as per the rules under our ccp overlords here?
Im legit hype as fuck for PRODEUS
That's not Doom.
Isn't Hedon just some wad
But Doom is Ancient
worth 12 dollars?
I mean the new one.
>Hedon
>quality
lmao
Who would every try this shit? All you do is end up interacting with the Doom1/2 community, which is the biggest load of nostalgic neckbeards on the planet. These people still play the same old game over and over again telling themselves there is nothing better.
You can't please them, nothing new can, no matter how good your game is, they will shit on it. And they are the main audience, most people don't give two fucks about this kind of game.
>>Overwatch??
>shooter
user pls
>fapbait OC
Hope you're into futa, user.
Personally I'd say it's worth 10 bucks, but 2 more wouldn't hurt
>make classic styled fps in gzdoom/eduke/quake engine
>wow wtf you want me to pay for a wad!
>make classic styled fps in other engine
>wow wtf not using a tried and true engine!
because that's what it is.
That's the only reason I tried it, and was still disappointed
Good
Bad
Good
Sold like 50 copies lol?
bad
Isn't there a way to play hedon for free?
I just like the OC girl the guy made
*shaves my butthole*
nothing fursonhole, friend
>girl
>has a massive 10 inch dick
Bro...
even better
Name?
Must hang out at different places, saw people reviewing and talking excitedly about Ion Maiden and DUSK in some places that weren't even FPS focused, i actually assumed everyone here would have heard of DUSK at least since it got such great reviews from everyone and Caleb's voice actor came back.
Also, disagree with anyone who says Ion Maiden sucks, sure, the weapons could be better, but what we have so far i found to be good, plus, it has bowling bombs...scratch that, bowling bombs that when they explode leave behind a skull shaped cloud!
I was expecting the art to look like the one in the banner. The actual author's works are kinda bad.
I just want more Duke Nukem in the build engine
the cultural influence and amount of games trying and failing to capture the overwatch audience is insane. But maybe I should of said tf2 since overwatch just brought that to the mainstream.
>NuDoom
>Good
>>>/reddit/
>even compared to Quake 1
>Implying Quake 1 looks like shit
Looks like we got another brainlet who didn't turn off texture filtering
Fucking this
Quake looks gorgeus but glQuake fucked the art direction beyond relief. Mark V Winquake is the definitive way to play the original Quake
How do people play FPS on consoles? I've seen some Battlefield streams and it was very painful to watch.
I didn't mean to imply Quake 1 looks bad. Dusk is going for that Quake 1 look but looks a lot worse due to inconsistent texture and model quality
dusk is shit
and so is andrew "every song is exactly the same" hulshit
>[...] Wrath are good.
>game isn't out yet, demo isn't out yet, literally nothing except a few short lackluster gameplay videos
Are you a developer? Are the Quakedads paying you?
>GZDoom
>engine
I'm not versed in game tech at all, but I thought sourceports and engines were different things?
Hulshult is weird. I like his ROTT2013 stuff, but his original work sounds generic to me. Never really got the praise for him
Remove Hedon and Prodeus. The first one is a glorified Doom mod and the second isn't even released yet (and doesn't look especially good).
Add Amid Evil because that game is fucking awesome. The combat is way more satisfying than Dusk, and it's higher-poly while still looking retro.
you can literally interchange any of his soundtracks- ROTT '13, dusk, quake champs- and it makes no fucking difference
only ROTT is even identifiably different because it's based on existing music
GZDoom got shit like UDMF which gives map makers way more freedom, it wasn't supposed to be an engine but it kind of became one. Guess that's the wonder of modding
Jokes on you, i would pay for those games, even to go as far as not pirate them.
But those fake games are fake as hell and dont deserve to be called retro fps.
NuDoom is fucking terrible. I hate any game with magnetized quicktime event kills. Press X to zap to the nearest guy and play a kill animation! You did it player, you pressed play on the animation to win! You didn't need to aim, time your attack, manage your positioning or anything, you pressed the win button, so sick and gory bro!!!!1111
dusk is a worse version of doom 2 with different skin
shooters on console is like someone trying to play dark souls on an ipad.
Ion Maiden added a new level, "Heskel's House Of Horrors", that seemed to add a bit more unique character. The setting is interesting (mansion), and there were some new interactive props and a cool scripted bowling with bowling bombs encounter.
What pisses me off more are faggots who call it a "risk and le reward" mechanic, I have gotten through multiple rooms on fucking Nightmare difficulty by spamming f. It's unironically one of my most despised shooters ever made. Fuck it and fuck Todd for shilling it everywhere
You can't remap the primary fire key, the game is fuckin' broken. It would be great too if they just fixed it.
>ion maiden
>suck
kys
The amount of love that game gets shows just how low the bar has dropped. The soundtrack too, how can it be so lauded? It's literally 3 guitar chords chugging to dub step...
>You can't remap the primary fire key, the game is fuckin' broken. It would be great too if they just fixed it.
Nigga what? Maybe it was like that in an earlier version, but I just checked and "fire" is right there in the controls menu.
>call of duty gun positions
Everything else looks alright, just hate cheek guns.
Never heard about Hedon. I'm going through the Steam page and I can't say it look promising.
Technological regression is one thing, but you know shit is wrong if you have to go back to something that runs on a fucking decades-old 2.5D engine that made shit like Shadow Warrior if you want to have proper fun with an FPS game.
I don't want to hide behind a cover, I want to go fast, I want to evade enemies which for the most part (or at all) do not rely on hitscanning, and I want my movement/reflexes (literally: the speed and accuracy with which I point at enemies and fire) to be tight, smooth as fuck, and run with ZERO mouse acceleration. Because I played enough shit to know that once all of those things are done properly, you get to enjoy yourself and feel like a fucking god in spite of being a 20-something shmuck in front of a PC.
Usually I'm on the "graphics doesn't matter" side, but this game really looks too fucking ugly.
dusk isn't very fun once the novelty of flipping and sliding goes away.
>Amid Evil is almost done
Can't wait it anymore
steamcommunity.com
this, this thread is the first I've heard of it and honestly it looks rather shit
not "I'm a fucking zoomer eating tide-pods which can't appreciate artistry" shit, just literally "stolen assets and thinly veiled fap bait to trick you into buying garbage" shit
might pirate it if some anons recommend it though
It seems so simple, to ask the player to create their own spectacle to ask the player to earn the cool moves by their own skill. Max Payne got this, Doom got this, Thief got this, yet here we are and there's nothing but casual console garbage to play.
I didn't ask if it was in the options you sub-90 IQ shitskin faggot, way to live up to your race, bitch. It's impossible to remap fire to certain keys, and it's also impossible to unbind mouse 1 from fire. Period. Now get the fuck off my board and go back to twitter you fuckin' dumb ass nigger cocksucker.
If you can't appreciate DUSK for what it is I unironically think you're a zoomer. I can kinda get it if it's simply not for you, but some people are complaining that "it looks bad" and I just see Timmy, 5 y/o, saying this shit after his daily Fortnite session.
I won't ever give my time for Hedon even if it looks a little bit decent.
I just beat Rage 2, I have Blood Full Supply to play, Amid Evil and Ion Maiden will probably be out of Early Access soon, and hopefully Doom Eternal releases before the end of the year. I'm good on FPS games right now.
DUSK has better atmosphere and audio design than 90% of AAA trash. Great level design, love the graphics, love the interactivity, love the crazy weapons and enemies.
It's a game you need to feel to understand, it has a great weight and flow to the movement that can't be captured in a video.
>FEAR had revolutionary AI, that would analyze each situation and use whatever tool or strategy was least costly to reach their goals.
The fun thing is that FEAR AI isn't even that complicated. They check out sounds, take cover, and their flanking routines were completely accidental and ultimately accommodated for. Fundamentally speaking, they're not much different from, say, Half-Life 2 Combine. The key differences are A.) the level designers worked with them in mind so they can kick over tables or shelves and then count it as cover, dive through certain windows if it's the faster route, and so forth which compliments them greatly, and B.) scripted reactions for damage, for allies going down, for being able to call out if you're near a sofa or an office desk, "faking" dynamic reactions and thus seeming a hell of a lot more smarter than they really are.
They're dynamic in the sense that no two fights of FEAR will be the exact same, compared to the aforementioned Combine being so heavily scripted that you basically know exactly what linear actions they're going to do, but FEAR's AI is special because the devs took great care to accommodate entire fights and setpieces for them. Most modern FPS devs go the shooting gallery route and make everything so linear and AI so simple that they have no opportunities for divergent gameplay whatsoever.
It literally has less polygons and worse animations than Quake. I'd think a true boomer could perceive this.
>Ion Maiden will probably be out of Early Access soon
I fucking wish.
What are the bottom three? Never heard if them.
Let me be a little bit optimistic. The current release window is for Q2 2019.
I just fired up the game again and confirmed it's completely possible to change mouse1 to, say, "use". Maybe you have a busted pirate copy. Or maybe you're retarded and didn't look in the "mouse setup" menu.
>It literally has less polygons and worse animations than Quake.
So? It doesn't look like shit and it sells its atmosphere amazingly well at times. FF7 characters are made of like 6 polygons per character (and FF6 is like twenty pixels) and they can sell amazing worlds and convey emotion really well through simple sprite movements or gameplay restrictions.
You'll have time to play Hedon after you finish those.
Saw a Twitter post saying they're making the launch trailer right now
What's you guys' opinion on Hedon? Worth a pirate at least?
Hating stuff cuz it's popular and new doesn't make you cool, samefag.
I will never pay for a GZDoom mod
Piss off, retard
I'm asking if the fucking gameplay's good.
I read the AI write-up by the devs and it's really interesting seeing the system and how it ties into psychology. I'd say that FEAR and Halo have interesting AI that is also fun and adds to the gameplay.
Unlike say, Radiant AI from Oblivion which was too uncontrollable and had to be neutered upon release and didn't really add to the game's fun in the end anyway.
I think Thief 1 also has a very advanced AI system. Enemies have varying degrees of awareness of the player, simulated peripheral vision, simulated sense of being closely followed, sound propagation, interesting AI co-dynamics.
Wrath is a Quake 1 esque game made by guys who worked on the Quake mappack Arcane Dimensions, which is extremely high quality
Prodeus is a doomish game with sprite enemies and a million more rotations. But it looks like edgy Brutal Doom kinda crap.
No idea what Hedon is
>Hating stuff cuz it's popular
Literal reddit meme to excuse shit taste
>liking stuff because it's popular
Based retard that can't handle different opinions
Fucking imagine if someone actually made a proper Thief sequel with today's possibilities. I know about the Dark Mod, I haven't had a chance to try it on my new PC yet, and it lagged like fuck on my old.
neither does liking stuff
>No idea what Hedon is
a GZDoom total conversion mod with a weird female focus that apparently includes a futa protagonist?
>Giving this lazy bait attention
Retards
Just checked, you're an impotent little shill faggot who's full of shit and you're also a pathetic disgusting minority.
>that alt-righter who has to inject race into literally every discussion
>people dont like DUSK
Well. That's unexpected. I love that game.
Dilate
oh yeah? well youre a DOUBLE NIGGER
It's fun, the first episode just might drive some people away compared to the later ones.
lol you all reply with the same shit.
imagine telling someone to diliate irl but then have to explain to them what it means because unlike you, normal people don't know the intricacies of MtF operations. Then watch as everyone gives you strange rooms.
I don't know enough about coding, but I have to wonder, why are there no other meticulous simulation games like Thief? Is it that the AI and the sound system were so complicated they can't be replicated? Or is it just that devs don't care to try? Why are there no games taking FEAR's AI to the next level? Is it just too difficult to program or is it just laziness and lack of vision?
What Retro PC shooters do you think satisfy all these requirements?
>giving the replies attention
Retard
God that sounds like pure autism
>everything i know about modern shooters i know from 2010
>why are there no other meticulous simulation games like Thief
It takes time, skills, money and most of all passion about the medium to design shit like this. And even if you do get something good (like the recent Prey) there's no guarantee some fucking absolute retards won't tank your game by criticizing in spite of knowing absolutely nothing or being absolutely dogshit at marketing.
Check out Pathologic 2. It just came out, it's pretty much one of the best games of the last decade (in spite of some technical problems) and it a)got some shitty reviews by people too stupid to tie their own shoes, and b)barely got made because the developers had to struggle with only a kind-of-successful kickstarter, an economic crisis, looking for a publisher in spite of that, and more. It's part of the reason why I still respect people like the dudes who made VA-11 HALL-A in spite of it having kind of shitty writing in places - perseverance, passion and artistic creativity.
>futa protagonist, futa protagonist oh nooo
So does Hedon have full on porn content like H-Doom, or is it just the sort of a thing where you play as a demon with tits (and supposedly a cock that you don't ever see) and it makes people seethe for some reason?
I guess no game really combines it all perfectly, but they are general design philosophies espoused by those earlier PC focused action games that have been lost. The closest would probably be Max Payne even though it's third person, though the AI isn't anything special. Next up would be Thief 1 & 2, Soldier of Fortune, Half Life 1 / 2, Quake 1, Unreal, DOOM, System Shock, Deus Ex, CS 1.6, Tribes, etc.
I actually fell for the shilling and bought the game.
It fucking sucks. It's a generic fps with backtracking and puzzle solving that's masquerading as a "retro boomercore fps."
>iron sights
>reloading
>hardly any enemies
It's just some fag's excuse to jerk off to his OC and try to make money off it. Got a refund, so I'm happy now.
Yeah i gotta say i was not expecting pathologic 2 to be as solid as it was. they managed to fix literally every problem with the previous game.
Did you not play the demo? It has probably the worst level design i've ever seen and I've played Doom 2
Okay Mr know it all, what caused the schism and major change in design philosophy between retro PC shooters and current FPS games?
Hedon looks like a tranny game for trannies what the fuck
Crysis was shit.
Are you retarded or something? Having a stroke maybe? The map design in Ion Maiden is pretty much exactly one of the main reasons why I've replayed it for like 9 hours.
Theres no porn content, just a few posters with lewd art.
The levels are fine you stupid fag. Either prove the developers are SJW kikes or shut the fuck up because nobody cares.
>buying a wad
The Doom community is riddled with them. The SJWs started moving in about 2014. Who knows what it's like now, I've been afraid to look.
i already have doom and soon doom eternal.
why should i play those games?
>ion maiden
Vaporware.
Being a contrarian doesn't make you right
TF2 had the same thing 10 years before Overwatch.
civvie liked ion maiden so I'll at least give it a try
never heard of hedon though
>came out with a new episode a few months ago
>finished up showing off the new levels at PAX
>still slated for a full 2019 release
>vaporware
Fake news being spread by the Hedon and Duke Nukem mod trannies.
I'll definitely have to check it out then, I wasn't sure what it was about. As I get older I'm starting to appreciate flawed, but passionate gems a lot more than dull AAA games.
people wanted more than mindless action and high scores. People also wanted realism, which is why ADSing became a thing and why the settings for games became more grounded.
also, and this is a real zinger, maybe people didn't want to play arena shooters or 2.5d labyrinth secret-finder shooters their whole lives
>that art
Shieeet I should make a game
>one level
>new episode
Vaporware.
>daggerfall
I like it
not to the level of mainstream success and cultural influence. Even women love Overwatch, like normal everday women not PC enthusiast fat men with vaginas.
>still spreading misinformation in the vein attempt of having 2 more people buy your wad
Dilate.
No misinformation here.
>Dilate.
do you talk like this irl?
What? The game's more or less a success in most circles so I'm not being contrarian by enjoying it and saying that it's good. The level design being amazing is also a fact that is obvious if you play it.
Are you the "look mom I'm trolling Yea Forums" kid?
>i like running around the with the minimap taking up the whole screen
why are 'retro shooter' fans so autistic
How old are you? Orange Box was one of the biggest game releases if not the biggest one. Everyone played it and everyone talked about it. TF2 stayed extremely popular for years and still one of the most played games on Steam. Overwatch was fotm that quickly got forgotten.
>minimap
2/10 Apply yourself
TF2 is why loot boxes are acceptable in the west. don't even TRY to act like the game wasn't influential, especially when overwatch copied so much from it.
you fucking know what i mean
Overwatch porn might be here to stay, at this point I'm not even sure most people fapping to it know they're from a video game.
What are you even talking about? Have you ever actually played these games? The map isn't onscreen at all times, you press a key to show it when you desire to see it.
You have a fair point that these games are responding to market forces. More people playing games that are less sophisticated and want a more linear and "kick back and blast some guys" sort of experience. Not to mention the frustration of trying to find a key in a labyrinthine level or circle strafing through your 1000th demon.
It's just sad that in the race forward we've lost a lot of the fun simulation elements of earlier games, AI advances, Audio advances as well as the skill oriented design of mouse based shooters. I don't think shooting someone in any of the Modern Warfare games comes close to the satisfaction of a headshot in Counter Strike.
im not youre the ones who think im making osme kind of claim to superiority in a popularity contest.
i think with the prevalence of meme culture, its not hard to believe that people who don't even PLAY videogames have a modicum of knowledge about them due to the sheer volume of stupid memes they see every day on their feeds.
>it's all boomercore doom wads sold for $20
How are those saving anything?
>your opinion
bad
Dilate
>Prodeus is a doomish game with sprite enemies and a million more rotations.
Apparently you can toggle the "sprite mode" or whatever and just have them be 3D models instead. Also the level design is being handled by the guy behind the Eviternity megawad, so at the very least that aspect of the game will be decent.
One of the guys at 3D Realms said they were putting together a launch trailer for Ion Maiden literally a few hours ago.
>Tfw all this shit coming out
>None of these even coming close to Arcane Dimensions, a mod made on a 23 year old engine
I just finished Amid Evil, it's good. Not really good but good.
>a mod made on a 23 year old engine
I thought AD required a sourceport to run properly.
True, but it's not like a bunch of crazy modern stuff is added, it just removes the limits on the amount of detail & enemies.
>None of these even coming close to Arcane Dimensions
I mean, Wrath is being made by some of the guys behind Arcane Dimensions. I don't see any reason to knock it yet.
I love Quake 1.5, it's so smooth to play.
>Caleb's voice actor came back
wait what?
I really like the visual style of Prodeus, it's too bad that for the time being it looks like a direct clone of Doom. Same enemies, similar level design etc... I love Doom and I understand why they'd use it as an inspiration but did they really have to make an almost one-for-one copy of the enemies and all their attacks?
I'll keep an eye out for it though, sounds like something worth buying during a sale.
He voices the final boss.
oh fuck that's nice
I've been that way since a long time ago.
I think he's referring to when you open up the weapon wheel and time slows down
Dusk was okay.
Ion Maiden looks promising. Can't wait for the next delay.
Wrath is the one I look forward to the most. Gameplay preview was pretty good.
lol Doom mod gay
Backed Prodeus. Looks neat even though they should turn the gore and blood level down. A fucking pistol shouldn't gib.
>Can't wait for the next delay
I dislike the enemies and the animations art style for the weapons and arms, enemies look boring and generic and the animations look and animate hideously
Where is the Duke Nukem leak, Fred?
Honestly, I'm worried about Ion Maiden. Interceptor Entertainments' games always have several issues with bugs and polish. ROTT was unplayable for me, Bombshell and Rad Rogers were a fucking bore (and quite buggy aswell).
fuck off shill
Ion Maiden > Amid Evil > Dusk > Prodeus > Hedon
Well, IM is the only one which is visually pleasant.
I spray, you pray!
Max Payne
>Initiate slow mo dive: press 3 for shotgun, blast 2 guys, press 2 for pistols, finish off 2 more guys before your dive hits the ground all in 1 seamless motion.
Far Cry 4,5,6,7..
>Running into enemy base: STOP, weapon wheel machine gun, GO, start shooting, crap I need a bigger gun, STOP weapon wheel grenade launcher GO, shoot two grenades, crap too many guys STOP, weapon wheel shotgun GO, shoot a few more.
>he thinks a fictional work can “save” a genre or medium
user unless it’s on the level of Half Life it can’t do shit, you hear me? Stop mindlessly shitposting and try to learn some decent rectoric.
Amid Evil is beautiful.
Overload triumphs all of those with regards to level design, enemy variety, weaponry, and enemy AI
Also has the distinct achievement of being a well-optimized Unity game
>Dusk
The entire campaign was geared around getting you ready for multiplayer, which never took off.
>Ion Maiden
Not out yet, the maps available to play are mediocre.
>Wrath
Looks like what Quake 2 should have been, but Quake is meant for multiplayer and I doubt the multiplayer scene will take off since Dusk had outstanding multiplayer that lasted about a week.
>Hedon
This one is absolute garbage, terrible game.
>Prodeus
Just play Brutal Doom because that's what it fucking is.
>The entire campaign was geared around getting you ready for multiplayer, which never took off.
objectively untrue. SP was always the focus.
>t. never played the campaign or, worse, never beat it
Stephan Weyte, AKA the Blood protag, even tells you as much in the end
m8, my name is in the credits.
My dad works at steam and says they had to get one of the Dusk devs to stop sucking dick in the restroom when they came to visit, guess that's you.
m8....
What kind of autistic interpretation is that? The multiplayer was entirely outsourced to some marxist furries, the lone developer behind the SP (e.g. the real game) had next to no hand in the MP.
Doesn't mean shit, the entire gameplay of Dusk was geared for multiplayer shenanigans.
if you really think that you have brain damage.
>hedon
God what a shitty looking game.
This. The only reason MP exists is because of MUH QUAKE HOMMAGE.
the only reason it exists is because dave oshry promised it.
>entire campaign was geared around getting you ready for multiplayer
Thank you for putting the, "I am an absolute mong, please ignore everything else I say," sign right at the beginning of your post. I appreciate your effort in saving me time that I'll end up wasting elsewhere.
Halo, for better or worse, is absolutely one of the most influential shooters.
On the topic of Dusk's MP, I feel the weapons should have at least twice as much ammo or deal more damage. People are blitzing past each other and you can't kill them most of the time.
>penultimate boss was a guy with almost all of your abilities
>ultimate boss was just a QTE
>lulz MP was tacked on
If that's the case, I recommend everyone stay away from Dusk because it sure as shit is a dead and buried multiplayer game and not by the Yea Forums definition where there's 5k people playing it. More like 5 and they have a discord set up to play games while they dilate.
So I just finished DUSK and I really liked it. How does Amid Evil compare? Is it longer?
Neither Quake nor Dusk are meant for MP.
you want to know why jakob plays a lot like a MP bot? because he thought it would be fun and the MP was already out and playable at that point. im not going to argue whether or not its dead (arena FPS as a whole is a dead genre) but at least be a little less stupid, yeah?
The most annoying thing is that weapons aren't permanent. So when you die and respawn it's up to luck whether you spawn next to a weapon or next to jack shit.
Bro, what the fuck are you talking about. It was clearly not intended to become a big arena shooter. The fact that anyone plays the multiplayer is just a nice bonus.
I don't think you understand what a QTE is.
nah, its not much longer. 3 core levels and 1 boss level in each of its currently 6, very soon 7 episodes.
More abstract & large environments, more enemy variety, harder, longer (hyuck hyuck)
The final boss fight is a QTE as they are timed events you must perform quickly in order to win. Quick time event. Quick timed events.
>arena shooter are the only FPS multiplayer games
youtube.com
Then there's no reason for anyone to ever buy it again.
>it must have a good, thriving multiplayer to be worth buying
i dont get you user.
>>arena shooter are the only FPS multiplayer games
What? How did you get that? Dusk's multiplayer is an arena shooter in the same vein as classic Quake or Unreal. What else would you call it?
QTE refers to on screen button prompts
I don't think you understand what a QTE is.
I hope you at least acknowledge that everyone in this thread thinks you're not normal.
What the devs really intended with the MP doesn't matter. What most people will do is play it only for the singleplayer and leave it at that. If people wanted to play a good MP shooter they'd play something else.
Who are all you people complaining about having to get a refund for Hedon? The game is fucking free, why did you buy it on Steam?
>i'm using the wrong definitions for words but I'm right anyway
Zoom zoom.
i find it funny you decide to pick that argument, of all things. here's your last (You).
The final boss is in no way a QTE; a QTE is the shit in Resident Evil 4. In the final boss fight in Dusk you have to shoot the ceiling to expose sunlight to make the boss vulnerable. He is vulnerable for a set percentage of his maximum health. Once he reaches the amount he becomes immune again until you shoot out another portion of the ceiling. This is not a QTE.
who?
sound does not travel realistically in thief, this is exactly like the "we had better AI in the old days" effect.
lmao fuck I started writing this reply before reading anything after your first line and you hit that trope too.
AI and sound propagation have advanced by orders of magnitude since those days. FEAR's AI had not-alert/searching/spotted, could sometimes use cover, and would throw grenades if you were in cover. That's it. That's literally 100% it. All the rest is player-interpretation and "storification," an actual industry buzzword for the player inventing systems or attributing meaning to things that are not there based on their subjective perception of in-game events.
PUBG took a tonne of extremely clunky mechanics that existed in mods and niche titles for ages and thrust them into the mainstream, I think it'd belong on any such list for that reason alone.
If you had pitched a shooter with next-to-zero mobility, punishingly slow animations, and all-around-terrible shooting before 2017 they'd probably find you dead in a ditch somewhere.
Now it's a mainstream genre.
user, are you on the spectrum? Legitimate question here.
Quake had MP at release. Clearly it was meant to be played.
'Meant for MP' would imply its focus was for MP. Quake 1, 2, and 4 are not focused on MP. Q3, QW, and QC, on the other hand, are.
That's your opinion, Doom had a MP scene and we were looking forward to Quake.
Prey(2017) is a modern classic on the same level as Deus Ex and System Shock.
Killing Floor 2 has more game mechanics and better gun handling then far cry and Modern warfare combined.
>That's your opinion
You're retarded.
your autism for games with ADDED multiplayer features is absurd. get yourself checked out.
How many of these are actually finished and not in early access?
Dusk is finished. Ion Maiden and Amid Evil are apparently going to leave early access in the next few days.
AE will leave early access sometime in the next month or two.
Quake and Counterstrike should be on there
>The plan was for the game to have more RPG-style elements. However, work was very slow on the engine, since John Carmack, the main programmer of Quake, was not only developing a fully 3D engine, but also a TCP/IP networking model
Carmack was working on the netcode before the game was even designed, ayylmao
en.wikipedia.org
That's disappointing. The devs' comments made it seem like it was essentially finished.
Late 2000s/early 2010s were a very dark age for FPS games.
Just discovered Overload. Time to break out the old joystick. Hope this is as good as it looks.
>Quake 2 wasn't focused on MP
You never played Quake 2 or, if you did, you didn't play it until 2013. Quake 2 at release was some of the most fun you could have online due to the insane modability you would see on multiplayer servers. It was proto-Unreal Tournament.
that does not mean its a multiplayer focused game, you fucking idiot.
Are you dense? Q2 is not a MP FOCUSED game, like Q3.
it IS essentially finished in terms of content. theres still some shit we have to iron out before it can be released. it is pretty soon though. i'd tell you the actual release date but with this company, anything could happen.
If thats anything like Descent, I'm down for it. Descent was an excellent game.
>dig around
>it really is a canon futa FPS
shame, now I will feel like a ripoff when I show off my own futa shooter (it's like Max Payne but with dick and boob physics at the same time)
just need a couple million to hire people to make it
If you play quake2's single player it's pretty fucking lame.
That's completely irrelevant.
Yeah looks like it is. Its got VR support and raving reviews as well as a level editor. Made by the people who made DUSK and AMID EVIL. Has the writer of Freespace 2. I bought it on impulse just now after seeing all that.
Nevermind, not made by the people who made DUSK and AMID EVIL. No idea what made me think that.
Q2 is the most SP focused game in the series, except maybe the 4th.
It's basically descent, done proper.
It seems that a lot of dedication was put on Hedon, but I also didn't enjoyed it that much (I played the free beta, not the Steam version). Maybe because of the amount of wall-text used to tell the story. Ashes 2063 did a better job in this regard. It was kind of confusing too, I remember not being able to progress in that level with a wood library.
On the other hand, the Forge level was pretty cool and the game few gzdoom games have (crafting ammo, for example).
Derped the last line.
>the game has a level of complexity that few gzdoom games have (crafting ammo, for example).
I’m a turbozoomer who’s barely old enough to post here, and I love DUSK.
