I've played and beaten it, it's just not that great. Easily the worst of the SNES trilogy but I would say better than any of the PS2 onward games except 12.

Don't listen to Final Fantasy VII is the most fun Final Fantasy, and a great starting point.

You can swap 3 and 5 and I couldn't care less. Anything below high tier is forgettable trite to me.

X-II and X are both mediocre as fuck. I'll never understand the lover for X, its not that great.
VII is not a fun game. The combat is fucking terrible and the dialog can be an absolute slog.

The most fun is final fantasy xiv because it has the best combat, I've put over 2400 hours into it just playing the game running dungeons and raids (savage and extreme trials and so on) it's tons of fun.
Try to pretend it doesn't exist the best you can. Kind of like any Star Wars movie after the first three.

I can't comment on ARR when it released, but at least in the last 2 years there's nothing about 14's combat that can be considered RPS

The Playstation games were all great, 8 was the weakest but still a good game. People generally agree that the best game was either 6, 7 or 9 so this is the golden era
The PS2 games are where the franchise began to slide downhill
The PS3 games were fucking bad
The PS4 game was rock bottom
The MMOs were both solid MMOs for their respective times but strictly nothing special
The strategy from VII arguably comes from the materia system. Also, VI has a lot of interesting characters with unique mechanics that are more interactive and allow you to strategize in a different way. There isn't any less strategy it's just a different way of strategizing. They're all on the same level IMO.

I tried playing RW but got completely bored at the very beginning, one of the many things I love about XII was the gameplay and yeah, RW didn't had any, I might give it a try sometime in the future.

That's understandable, Real Time Strategy isn't for everyone. I still think it's a very good game, but the gameplay is very much an acquired taste.
IX just has this classic feel to it that a lot of people really enjoy. It's not trying to be super innovative with any one area but instead refining a lot of core concepts to a level that's super polished. I guess the best way to describe it would be basic, but polished.
