How’s the dlc?
Dead cells
The new bosses and new enemies are great, especially The Collector boss. The elites still feel like bullshit though. A majority of my runs end because of an elite.
The one with that horizontal line that goes up and damages you is unavoidable, I swear to god.
Finally the game has the final boss.
Other than that, good. The upcoming patch will balance some stuff too.
What really bugs me is how it's still in the game all these months later after being introduced in patch 1.1.
The elites were just fine as they were in 1.0. I don't know why this Diablo bullshit should be in the game. It makes runs so dependent on what type of elite you'll encounter and whether or not the elite is in a position that will make him be skippable. I die more often to elites than to any of the bosses.
I really want to know if anyone at Motion Twin actually plays this game beyond 0 Boss Cells.
Why is 5 cell mode the exact same as 4 cell outside of the final area
What a waste
they fucked the balance before they released it so i stopped playing
the game worth picking up?
Yes
It's a mastapeece and has one of the best combat systems ever
How rogue like is this game? Do I really start from zero gear wise every run?
Overall it's an improvement, the new areas and bosses are great, the design and music continue to be good, a lot of the new weapons and QoL improvements are good fun.
The elites though still feel like too much RNG on 4 or 5 BSC though. Hopefully that'll get looked at along with a few other long standing questions now that the game is much more "done", in terms of lots more stuff getting wrapped up and having a real final boss and such. Game is still a blast though.
Are you into roguelites with unlockable items?
If yes, then yes. If no, then no.
Yes except:
-You unlock 4 HP potions which restore 75% hp.
-You can take a randomly chosen weapon/shield instead of your basic one when you start a run
-All unlocked items are retained
The game isn't very gear dependent, to be frank anyway, it's all in how well you can dodge.
You can carry over a bit of money (once you get the skill for that which isn't hard) but otherwise yes you reset completely each run. There are a few permanent unlocks (like number of uses of health potion) but they're minor.
maybe I played an older version of the game (haven't played in like a year). I don't remember them being THAT hard.
You when you die you start at the beginning level.
But during your runs you will unlock items that will show up in the levels and shops. There is also a way to give you a random melee weapon, random ranged weapon and random shield from the pool of your unlocked items when you start a new run.
Did they add any new areas?
Yes, one area you can go to after you beat the game and one area you can go to after you unlock 5 blood cells mode.
>tfw didn't even know it had DLC
I guess I have a reason to play it again
Don't listen to . I'm not a fan of Roguelites or that community as a whole. Dead Cells is fun as heck for a lot of different reasons.
>Tight ass controls
>HIGH replay value
>challenging bosses
>game of difficult... but not TOO difficult. It allows a lot of room for your own creativity.
>this one is super subjective, but despite the played out pixelated graphics in indi games, I like the artstyle (and music for that matter).
>Get into prisoner's quarters
>dun du diiin
>*Drum noises*
>dun du diiin
>HAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUWAGH
>haven't played in like a year
You're talking about 1.0. They completely changed how elites works since December 2018 when they introduced patch 1.1. Pic related: From the Dead Cells official wiki.
The game is radically different now in many more ways. Some regular enemies attack completely differently, like the Purulent Zombies, which back in 1.0 were absolute pushovers but now actively spit Corpse Worms through walls and are now some of the most dangerous enemies in the Stilt Village. The game also no longer has dynamic difficulty and instead has fixed enemy levels in each biome. This may make it sound easier, but it doesn't because you are more forced than ever to pick up cursed chests and play dangerously.
The way the Homunculus works in the current version is also different. You can't use it when you are cursed, whereas back in 1.0 you could cheese cursed status by using Homunculus to clear all threats. The game overall is much harder now than it was in 1.0 (in both good and bad ways).
>>this one is super subjective, but despite the played out pixelated graphics in indi games, I like the artstyle (and music for that matter).
I'll second this. The atmosphere, art style and music and overall setting is quite enjoyable. Not super deep or anything, it's dressing for the game, but it's damn good dressing. Even for people who will never ever really beat the game and aren't great at platformers I think it's worth giving it a spin on sale, it feels good to even get a for BSC and then replay with none and feel like a total god vs the start while realizing that nothing has really changed, you just got gud(der, yes I know 5BSC-is-a-cake-walk'ers we are still peons before you).
I haven't played the expansion yet, all my work was with 1.0. And I'm bad at these and don't play many, and I don't know if I'll ever make it to the finale. But I'm glad to have even gotten up to 4 and don't regret the ride one bit.
in the most recent update the elite are unskippable. The elite will spawn along the way to an exit. The developers are absolute cancer and none of them can beat this game past 2 boss cells. Only the most autistic koreans can.
Also btw one of my favorite things that they added to the game was new costumes for the beheaded
wish it had even a little more dynamic music holy shit do i love that in games. part of what made me love the sanctuary so much was the flip when you awaken it, hype as fuck.
>in the most recent update the elite are unskippable
WHAT. That's fucking stupid, game was doing well before in making things about tradeoffs, risk for reward, you could just skip by anything but bosses if you wanted.
> The developers are absolute cancer and none of them can beat this game past 2 boss cells.
I really hate it when developers design challenges that they themselves can't beat or difficulty settings that they themselves don't even play and only tweak without actually experiencing it themselves.
Every single update they nerf the new meta. Recently they nerfed ice shards so it has ammo and is basically useless. The new meta for $ boss cell+ is shields, but the devs said they are going to "rebalance" shields.
>muh balance in a SINGLE PLAYER GAME
>no fun allowed, any "good" strat must be turned into a garbage one
>nevermind that if the game is good and replayable people will naturally use the best easiest ways first then migrate to trying more challenging builds so it just acts as a really good natural difficulty gradient
FFS. I hate this meme so fucking much.
That's why I'm going to wait until they stop updating the game to finally return to playing it. I bought it on Steam at 1.1 after playing the pirated 1.0 GOG version for months, but I got immediately turned off by the new bullshit elites. I've been looking for a good time to come back to the game, but it seems that the devs care more about gimping the player to maintain a "we're so hardcore!" credential without understanding how it makes the game less and less fun.
It's so clear that nobody at Motion Twin actually plays the game at higher difficulties and that they spend their time watching YouTube videos of people doing successful 3/4/5BC runs and making their balancing decisions based off of that.
Sucks extra hard since it's actively discouraging and creates pressure to rush and try to find something fun in a specific version and then play it as much as possible for they destroy it next version. Fucking hell motion twin if I wanted to play an MMO I'd do that.
