My impression after a couple dozen hours is that there's not enough RNG for a game with permadeath. The game will always play out more or less the same, because the seasons always occur in the same order and the shit you need to build is always roughly the same, and you will always have access to the same resources. It's not like Invisible Inc or Slay the Spire where you have to make actual choices based on what you find in the early game. Is this a false impression?

This is accurate. It's a good game but its replayability isn't as high as it could be due to the fact you do kinda have an unchanging checklist that is usually consistently completeable by the first extreme season. And if you survive the first extreme season, you can essentially last forever as your next checklists are much easier to accomplish

dude if you want more challenges you can always change the duration of individual season for extra challenge if you are getting bored with vanilla.
Hell, you can even play winter/summer only with night cycle only if you are brave enough
