he likes trees!
He likes trees!
shining force music was the glory
>love Shinning force
>can't get into FE
what's wrong with me bros
This guy must have planted them all. Explains why they're all the same size, all small, and all neatly arranged in rows.
This is peak environmental storytelling.
>promote a unit
>they become weaker
Is this the birth of an epic new meme?
Bureaucracy, amirite?
I miss Shining Force, bros...
Nothing, FE is an overcomplicated, boring Shining Force without the good feeling these games give.
Iunno, it's the same deal with me.
I keep coming back to shining force and I'm ignoring my playthrough of FE7. I'm REPLAYING Shining Force 1 and just starting to truly understand how cool Shining force 2 really is and restarting a playthrough of it on the switch. It's weird.
Maybe it's because Shining Force's character designs are so much... More than what's offered in fire emblem. Maybe it's because of the simplicity in some aspects of the battle system. It feels nice.
Domingo!
They retain most of their stats, reset their level, and have higher growth rates, making them stronger than they were before after a battle or two. Takes time getting used to their new stuff, I guess.
Sarah is my waifu, Chester and Jaha are my bros, kassim a bitch
What's the most worthless unit and why is it the rat from SF2?
Because Shining Force is loaded with SOUL, has great character designs and aesthetics, and is good simple fun with no worries of shit like minmaxing or permadeath, yet can still be challenging as fuck if you don't constantly Egress battles.
>Slade
>worthless
>not promoting him to a Ninja and one-shotting everything with the Gisarme
Brainlet begone.
I feel you, there's just something about Shining Force that just draws me in, while FE just feels like a slog.
Slade? He's really good, though. He has good mobility without the limitations of centaurs, solid attack growth, and his promoted form absolutely destroys enemies. He's only bad at the onset, because he starts out pretty weak.
Do we have rule 34 of this treefucker right here?
Kiwi has too much issues due his HP, it is surprisingly easy to finish the game before Chaz and Taya have their best spells. Janet sucks if you don't turn her into a tank.
There's a church RIGHT THERE, user. Control your urges.
Nothing. You just prefer fun SRPG vs a boring complicated SRPG. Why Sega won't resurrect this series or Camelot makes a spiritual successor I'll never understand.
>Shinning force final boss
>the protagonist has a special animation for dealing the final blow
I love games that do this
I was just asking for a friend, honest!
You speak for the trees, huh?
>see op image
>town theme immediately starts playing in my head
youtu.be
So comfy and nostalgic.
Fuck I forgot how good this was
The overworld
>that scene where they throw bowie
I've never laughed harder at a videogame
That's only in 1.
Tanks look stupid. May is better than other archers is just about everything.
I always assumed shining force was really similar to FE/langrisser, is it worth trying if I think those are too full of fluff?
Was it me or did the centaur chick from SF1 REALLY wanted to get with Max?
Fucking hamster
You have taste.
Are any of the shining games after shining force iii worth playing?
Janet has no strenght growth as an archer, it's a list of characters that have issues, so she's in. And yes, May is the best archer.
The birdmen are so much worse. They die as soon as anyone looks at them funny and do next to no damage. It's like they wanted an answer to fire emblem's pegasus knights.
They are mage assassins, also give them rings and def seeds.
And he was willing to fake his death to avoid riding her, yes.
Yeah, just read your post again. I didn't like both summoner and tank classes, the base promotion feels better.
Who's that on the left again?
What's an easy SRPG for beginners?
I'm really good at puzzle games and other logic-based games, but I'm fucking terrible at tactics.
you have good taste
Mae. The first game's centaur lady who had a crush on the mc.
Shining Force are basically JRPGs in Strategy format, and don't waste your time with excess bullshit thanks to being so fairly streamlined. FE is a lot more autistically obnoxious than it needs to be by comparison, and filed with a lot more design choices meant to put you at a disadvantage.
Shining Force 1 and 2 are both pretty good for beginners thanks to their simplicity. Final Fantasy Tactics Advance isn't bad either.
Phantom Brave isn't too hard. It's even on PC now.
Any Nippon Ichi SRPG. Disgaea, Phantom Brave, Makai Kingdom. They're complex but once you get the hang of them you can break them over your knee.
Shining Force was my first SRPG ever at 8 years old so I'd say it's pretty beginner friendly. Very, very basic.
Divinty: Original Sin has selectable difficulty levels. And really you can just set everything on fire and call it a day. Most fights end up that way anyway.
SF does too, but it only affects MP consumption if I recall correctly.
why does nobody ever talk about the other shining game?
>check shinning force in the sega classics collection
>yfw is so fucking great and fun
>it freezes at endgame every time
i guess it's my fault by trusting sega, just gonna go for roms now
I would bed this young man.
like that Indian dude who started planting trees in the desert in 1971 and now he has a forest that gets visited by elephants?
because nobody finished it
It's good but the screaming enemies was kinda awful. Prefer this one.
>Shining Force Thread in 2019
I mean I'm happy to see it but where the hell did this come from
This guy was my favorite artist for a long time.
There were Phantasy Star threads all last week. Started to spill into Shining Force at the end.
semi-related:
which game has the best trees?
t. Mae
I got stuck at the trial of courage, was fun up until then tho.
The first person prespective was great and Milo is one of my favorite RPG companions
Shining Force elfs are best elfs.
The best are the elf centaurs. elftaurs.
>Tao wearing a pink sexy bikini.
shining force 2 is really good
only heard good things about feather if you can read japanese
Damn shame archers in general suck so much.
In 3 they're pretty great and the tanks are a different class.
I have this game but never did beat it as a kid. I finally went back and played it a few years ago and it's a pretty solid dungeon crawler, if a bit easy and simple.
what's the difference between the tags ethreal and ethereal2?
It's fun for nostalgic sake, but really nothing special by modern standards. It's your standard princess got kidnapped by the Demon Lord story and the knight rescues her story.
Phantasy Star had already done the first person dungeon thing and had a much better soundtrack to boot on top of also having an overworld.
Only a handful of enemies do anything more than just mirror their sprite back and forth when they attack. There's only 2 tracks that play the entire dungeon, and the game becomes ironically easy thanks to the high encounter rate making you level up and stockpile gold like crazy.
Milo and Pyra are hilariously OP thanks to the former having access to flails, powerful healing spells, and the latter getting whips and Boost.
Overall it's a 6/10 game. It was alright for what it was in 1990, but still a painfully average game.
Nothing, SF is way better for me. I know exactly how much damage I'll do/take, no random affinity or overcomplicated modifiers, no mid battle spawns behind your ass
And the towns are actual towns, not a glorified menu, it adds so much more character to the game
>no new shining force
>no new golden sun
>no waluigi game
Camelots influence is still felt whether they're profitable or not.
>Random NPC standing hidden in some far away corner and only has one cryptic line of dialogue
Let me guess, there's some point in the story where you need to find a tree enthusiast, many many hours later.
Plays shining force, it's very straightforward
Just remember : don't fight in the sand, and burn zombies
No, it's quite literally just an NPC who loves trees.
There are some hidden party members you can recruit and items that are extremely obscure and probably impossible to find unless you autistically explore every square in the map and press X on random shut like wall decorations, armors and flowers.
