ITT books you'd like to see adapted into games. This is relevant to Yea Forums because of games like the witcher, it's a possibility another adaption of a good series may happen in the future.

Malazan Book of the Fallen

>Tfw we'll never get an adaption of the road that doesn't have gameplay 1:1 similar to the last of us.
>No extremely limited resource simulator in a world of ash.
>No God of war style child to protect in the sense it's not an escort quest or fail condition, nobody likes that shit.
>Survival horror is dead
Fuck me
Wat dis?
I see you are an Ascendant of Culture as well. The world is super cool and would make an excellent setting for a game.
Hood's balls on a skillet, yeah.
Seriously, I would appreciate a cRPG in the world of Malazan.
Have you played Myth games? It's not exactly an adaptation, but it really captures the feel of the first books and has so many similar concepts that it borders on rights infringement.
As long as they dont fall into the trap of trying to follow the book narrative. Use the world but it shouldn't be about Paran or the bridgeburners or anything like that. The only character that could maybe work like would be Karsa?
Has anyone tried the way of kings VR game? Iv'e seen screenshots and god damn is it so cathartic to see everything portrayed exactly how i imagined it.
Yeah, something that would be detached from the main plot could work.
We don't really get to see the conquest of the Empire in its beginning stages, so taking over the role of a Sapper in the early military or any other class could be fun.
It's your lucky day.
Something to do with D'ivers, or maybe something in Lether as the events of the Andii invasion.
Btw, do you have any other suggestions for books/series? I've just started Toll the Hounds so I'm almost done with the series and I'll need something new soon.
Redpill me. This game looks interesting with mostly positive reviews on steam and 80 on metacritic but iv'e been burned by you faggots before.
But it already exists silly user

i want a human post-apoc game so bad. hope that TLoU will end up igniting a genre
...this place has ruined me
I read the cover of that book as "Giant Cock in black company"
I need help
It's exactly what it says on the box. Mercenary company simulator. It's hard, though, so if you aren't good at turn based strategy you're gonna lose hard and fast. The expansions aren't mandatory, but if you like the game you're gonna want them.
I'll be honest, this is the first book series I've read in years (on Dust of Dreams rn). But the same friend who recommended me this also praises "Book of the New Sun" and suggests The Black Company.
So, I would start with those if you haven't already.
Mis negros
Other than those, basically every webcomic or manga I'm reading would be a pretty good fit
But since that's probably cheating, Ima go with a nemo ramjet's all-tomorrows 4x game, or a Moribito (was a novella series first) adaption
Play Myth it's awesome.
Is combat and gameplay fun?
I've read BotNS, your friend has good taste. It's pretty different than Malazan but very unique and very strange, in a good way. I should prob get around to reading Black Company.
To add to this.
Tyranny has given me strong Black Company/Malazan vibes. Definitely worth a try if you like the atmosphere.
If i absolutely hated pillars would i enjoy this for some reason?
myth is fucking awesome
couldnt stand tyranny, the writing felt very amateurish
None, because crossing mediums works literally 0% of the time. Besides, Black Company doesn't even have an ending, the writer clearly gave up on the final book and just said "fuck it" and dropped all his major plotlines like jesus kid and shit and just wrote in a half-assed ending.
This would be my absolute last pick precisely because it is such a good series. The only way for it to go is downward from the original content. -maybe- a centralized game for small subsets of the content, like a game focused on being a sapper, or a tehol and bugg slice of life where you try not to get killed by debt collectors by pretending to be a retarded hobo.
Karna raid battle
Jaded
Name one game that is better than it's original content. Go on, I'll wait.
I dunno. I preferred Pillars personally. And even there, only a few selected characters including Edere and Durance.
I can see where you're coming from. Writing is a step down from Pillars imo but I really liked the premise of the story. It's also the game that finally got me into cRPGs
I like it, but I dearly enjoy "good" TBS.
A book about memes
I don't know about better but a few games have done their original source material justice for sure.
Came here to post this. Myth is god tier, Bungie made some great games before they sold their soul to Microsoft.
i have 150 hours in it
i cant get enough of it
>The influx of recent lovecraft games
Fuck i don't hate things that are popular but damn the fatigue is setting in.
Black company is overrated. The characters are really gay
chinese cultivation novels literally have perfect videogame progression baked in
Well you sound like a fag and your shits all retarded.
Malazan is the best book series I've read thus far. Highly recommend.
FP is truly BP this day
Well that's not what your mom said last night while we were having sex. Bitch
thank you for reminding me in nine seconds of being back on this website why I left it in the first place.
Seriously fuck off
I love this series and it would be a terrible video game.
at best you could get an okay animated series but anything else would be dog shit.
lol what a beta faggot
don't let the door hit you on the way out
I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream
ezpz
Elric of Melnibone vydia where the last boss is yourself and you fucking die
Which part would make a decent game though? Just because the story and setting are good, doesn't mean it translates well to vidya.
The only part that I could think of that would work is after they cross the Glittering Plain and set up (in Ravenhold, Raven Tower?). And make it a spin off, where Soulcatcher and the nation with the flying sticks from Khatovar somehow manage to invade through the plain.
>be a young warrior from the new land
>join the Black Company
>explore your own land and house politics
>through working for the Black Company get to know them and their story
>most fights are against local bandits, local rebels against the Black Company and the occasional lesser magical creature
>a minor Khatovar incursion somehow gets you on the Glittering Plain where you find out more about the setting and Black Company
>the finale is fighting against Soulcatcher and her armies invading
We need a sci-fi detective game.
It would be an excellent game if they focused on small scale stories like dalinars backstory. It would probably suffer what berserk games suffer because plate wearers are super strong so it would most likely feel like a dynasty warriors type deal. But imagine metal gear rising duels, that would be fucking amazing.
I think a series of scenarios from different points of time could work
Like the singleplayer of Starwars Battlefront 2
There's been more than you might think, but they're all pretty old desu
Too elaborate what if it was a double A boss rush game ala furi with MGRs gameplay or something similar. That would work extremely well.
not him but i have a pastebin full of dumb fantasy shit that i liked that i posted last time i saw a book thread
I haven't played one of these, recommend me some
Sunless sea
Call of cthulhu
Darkest dungeon
Off the top of my head
I actually spend three hours yesterday looking for good books based on video games.
Most recommended i could find are Myst books and Ico, and I have them ordered anything else anyone can recommend?
If you feel like playing video games and read A LOT at the same time i'd recommend the failbetter games like cultist simulator. I don't think iv'e ever read a vidya book but i like heavy reading in vidya.
Something set in the Old Kingdom.
Maybe one of the early Abhorsens, or a crossing point scout that has to go deep into the kingdom for whatever reason.
I am alive
Let's be honest here. There's many with the trappings of lovecraft, but few reach something you'd actually call "Lovecraftian"
Well yeah but seeing cosmic horror in games all the time now is tiresome.
Never has there been a series of books so influentlial, and yet so underutilised.
I know there have been games in the past, but it's been like 20 years since then. Funnily enough there are supposedly a couple of games being made right now. Along with a 2020 movie remake, which came as a shock to me. Certainly didn't expect that,
You know, I just ordered the first 4 books, what am I getting into? People say it's overrated.
The magic in Black Company was all gay and bullshit in my opinion. There was less good fighting and more bullshit god magic. The whole arc with the daughter of the night was real dumb, and I hate Lady's daughter. Such an awful character.
I agree. But the first book was good.
A sci-fi series with a heavy emphasis on characters and their struggles, internal politics and.. biology. It's not very action-focused. If you like Warhammer 40k then you will definietly notice some things which GW "borrowed" from Dune.
came here to post this.
Also I would like to see a Wheel of Time game.
I agree that the series got way worse after the third book and magic played too much of a key role. it was neater when it was just some grizzled mercenaries trying to combat magical bullshit with mundane weapons. It felt like everything after The White Rose was just an afterthought.
Kek
One of the best series ever written and the best scifi series. The first and fourth are incredible, packed with meaning, philosophy and great writing style.
this book is fucking amazing but I have no idea how this would be a game unless you just took the sci-fi ideas from it and made some sort of sleuth FPSRPG
Chronicles of Amber would be cool.
How would that work? SRPG?
Bloodborne
How would a game based on The Forever War work?
What kind of gameplay mechanics would a game based around time dilation even have?
play the old bladerunner game
Scott Pilgrim
