To be fair all of the party AIs like to use single target spells. Even though it burns SP, it has higher accuracy than multi target ones. And unlike P4, you lose the one more if you miss even one enemy with the multi target.

Literally just turn on tactics memory and set them to knock down/full assault. She mever once casted marin karin for me when she wasn't on act freely. Only issue is maybe a mind charge if set to full assault and the enemy isn't weak to ice.
Setting everyone to heal/support while you put out damage was suprisingly effective for a lot of bosses too.

It's probably because the success of Persona 5, though it has brought tons of casuals and secondaries, has also brought a lot of older gamers on board who missed it during the PS2 era and know how to emulate. I played P5 a month or so after release and since then have completed Persona 3 FES, followed by Nocturne and Digtial Devil Saga, which are some of my favorite games of all time. Currently playing Persona 4, took me forever to get into it but I'm liking it now. Though I miss the physical split P3 had.

I'd argue Persona 3's tactics and difficulty spikes are a casual filter. The most casual players would be those who play on easy or safe. Secondaries just watch it on YouTube, listen to the music or just know it from Smash. Hell, I'd be even say P3 is harder than your average Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy, easily. It's not a hard bar to set when most JRPG players still play Pokemon.
