I heard this game is finally good. I do want to give space exploration a try. Is it the space analogue to Civ ?
No Man's Sky
>Is it the space analogue to Civ?
No, it’s completely different, while I haven’t played the games with it’s new updates I have heard that they have improved the game significantly since launch
>No, it’s completely different
I meant with respect to being representative of their genres. Is No Mans Sky the equivalent of space explorers to Civ with 4X?
Wont spend more than 20 bucks on it so hopefully it gets that cheap when the VR update comes out
it's pretty much minecraft in space now
More interesting than Minecraft? MC bores me.
>I heard this game is finally good
You heard wrong. It's less bad than at launch, and it shows the devs actually gave a fuck about their game and tried to improve it. It's flaws are inherently tied to the basic gameplay loop and a lack of a competent design from the start
Im honestly thinking of getting this
How decent is the basebuilding and material/resource stockpiling?
That shit speaks to me
>How decent is the basebuilding and material/resource stockpiling?
so-so
I want to stockpile food and wood and shit
Find a nice spot to start building my camp and make it grow and all that fucking good shit
Is it worth $30 CAD?
Only thing I got to play right now is RDR2 and honestly I'm not really motivated to pick up the controller...
Then get another game, NMS resource system is pretty mediocre
If you want good space exploration just get Freelancer instead.
What else is there?
Not gonna touch mineshit and dont starve is just a giant fuck you to survive
you can do that, i dont think you collect food at all tho, is more about getting resources to buils your shit, you need to explore to get the materials that are not disponible on your planet but there are portals to your house in every space station so you can fastravel to your home any time you want.
it's back to what it was supposed to be before launch, a shitty indie game that appeals to the "DUDE, SPACE LMAO" crowd
How big are the planets?
Does shit have an invisible wall or what
>space game appeals to the space game crowd
You don't fucking say?
Elite Dangerous is the best space exploration game out there, but as a game is otherwise boring af. Freelancer def more fun.
>the space game crowd
That's clearly not what I said, you facetious bitch
You're making absolutely no sense.
world must be a pretty scary place for someone as dumb as you are
The scale changes as you move off planet (as in you can reach a side in minutes) but on planet they are as big as, well, a a planet. I've flown around for a few hours on some just looking for downed ships and trading posts and not gone anywhere, basically. That said you can usually properly "explore" a planet within about 20 minutes and they almost all follow the same basic formula/design, at least before the underwater update
Must suck to be a cynical cunt like you who can't come up with an argument.
>cynical cunt
just admit you love this turd of a game and let's both move on
I will say that if you get past the boring beginning grind the game gets more fun. Building an awesome base over a lake on an ice planet was dope. Plus there are vehicles and rep stuff to do.
Space combat is still meh but slightly improved from the launch. I would say the game is definitely worth a buy at 20 bucks especially if you want a base building game with exploration.
Space Engineer
The whole resource management bit of NMS only really comes to live in Survival mode, in which harsh environmental conditions aren't just an annoyance but they'll kill you pretty quickly. You have to use different strategies to go around to get your resources, have to plan out the day/night cycles, dig holes for shelter to sit out storms, that kinda thing.
I've got like 90h clocked on the game, and it's solid. Haven't gotten to try out the submarine / underwater bases yet, but I heard that's kinda fun too.
It's addictive and keeps you doing stuff for hundreds of hours.
How is the soundtrack/ambient noise? Good or is it something you, personally, would rather listen to a story or personal playlist while playing?
Not sure why you are quoting me i was pointing out that the shit you collect is mostly for building crafting and that there is not Hunger mechanics at all.
That said i played NMS since launch and never died to harsh cimate, armor is mostly trivial since it last long and you dont really run out of fuel unless you are on a deserted planet that has not minerals in it what would make roaming far from your ship irrelevant. I think its pretty good but aside from the really hard spaceship ganks its really hard to die exploring a planet.
Starbound is a good mix of space exploration and base building. check that out
Soundtrack was composed by post-rock group "65 days of static", and it's pretty good I'd say. I'm sure it's somewhere on youtube.
>its really hard to die exploring a planet.
That's why I mentioned survival mode. Turns the game into something a bit different.
The best it's done is around $25-30 digital
PS4 got as low as $10 used at gamestop.
If you play in creative mode you're just jumping from system to system to see what is generated. You can follow the story (Life is a simulation ending in 16 minutes.) or just build.
Survival mode they drop you onto a hell planet where you have to run between caves and your ship while collecting resources on the planet. As soon as you're in space however you can either follow the story or then start building with the added requirement of collecting materials and parts.
It definitely wasn't worth the full price at launch but I'd say you'd get your money's worth for $20
Honestly, the music isn't all that good. The game feels much better with music turned off, which is a line that should never be said. The ambience and pigs in heat sounds you hear constantly make up enough of the audio to make you feel like you're in an alien environment.
Kill yourself, tranny.
>I heard this game is finally good
It' really isn't. The main gameplay loop is still the same as before so if you didn't like the mine->upgrade->mine thing, the extra bits it has will be just distractions for you.
>MC bores me.
You won't like this.
This game is peak reddit, all the NPCs in this game reek of soi
It'll probably only be worth playing in VR for the sightseeing factor and/or when someone mods the gameplay mechanics to actually matter
>procedural generated mess
>best exploration
No.
>people are still mad about No Man's Sky
/thread
Did they reduce the amount of materials required for building parts? Its kind of ridiculous that I need to farm 100 plants just to build a tiny ass shack.
Stop buying into marketing you fucking brainlet, the game is still complete garbage
I remember pirating NMS at release and what got me disgusted was how little space sim gameplay there was in it, I mean I felt this turd was like 99% shooting rocks and 1% was going outside of the planet, where the "gameplay" consisted of shooting rocks for fuel, then you go to another planet where you just do the rock shooting experience all over again, and the fuel consumption was a major bother. NMS should have focused more on spam sim gameplay and less on planetary exploration.
They could have made a spiritual successor to Freelancer but instead it feels like the worst part of minecraft meets interactive loading screen that is the space "content".
It was proc-gen, it was never going to be the successor to Freelancer.
If it had less of a focus on the planet exploration and more on dynamic space content with factions and shit the procgenned planets wouldn't feel so bad. But yeah the game's premise is fundamentally flawed, however the trailers made it seem like there was more space sim content than there is in the game.
The whole thing about the misleading marketing campaign is another different can of worms, which I'd say it's mostly irrelevant at this point. The fact is that the game is not very good, but kudos to the developers for at least trying to improve it.
