phones have killed the handheld market, even nintendo wont make another true one. that said i still use my vita for emulation and hd collections
Games and marketing
I doubt it'll happen. Didn't Sony try to release a "Playstation phone" and it was a flop?
PSP is pretty much my favorite handheld to date. Simple, clean and can play Monster Hunter Freedom United.
N3DS also great but I don't much care for that clamshell design with a wobbly hinge.
well sony sucks a phones in the modern era
I feel like there is still enough or a market for handhelds
this
people who wold want something like a vita 2 or switch dont play phone games as their primary.
really the vita would have sold 30+ million easily had it focused more and western games, and and had cheaper sd cards.
If they released a vita 2 as a p21/ps2/ps3 port machine and could play decent ps4ish quality graphics, i think it would have no problem getting to 20 mill.
Partnership with someone stupid enough to take on all the manufacturing costs while simply giving Sony 40-50% for their brand.
a handheld capable of that would cost a heinous amount of money
PSP had only 2 good games (Peace Walker, KH Birth By Sleep)
PSVita had zero good games. Not even P4Golden. Complete waste of money.
take the switch
get ride of the removable joy-cons and all the tech behind it
make a screen smaller (like 5.5 inch)
take money saved and invest in more powerful hardware.
>get rid of the best things about the Switch
>what is ace combat X
>what is gran turismo
>what is patapon
>what is the GTA games
People mostly bought the PSP for pirating/emulation, great for the consumers but I'm not sure how that should be any motivation for the producers
a bad AC
a bad GT
fucking what
bad GTA games
there is. ut Nintendo always dominated the market. and with Nintendo going all in on a flagship handheld Sony doesn't stand a chance. because if it's $300 they are fucked, and if it is $200, it will be way worse than a switch for only a bit cheaper (plus Switch will probably see price drops before it comes out because of optimizing the production and process shrinks) so then they lose there. so they can make a really budget one. but then they are exactly in competition with smartphones.
>patapon
That's a very niche game at best, user
joy cons are pretty shit, i dont like gimmick controls and even touch screen shit is pushing it for me
Handhelds are for japs and weebs and Sony is currently in the process of running them both out.
A handful of shit games
This. Plus the ENG translations are as strong as ever. You can play Lord of Apocalypse on PSP now. Fucking Lord of Apocalypse.
Take the Vita design.
Oled screens.
Remove the back touchpad or just make a touch R2/L2.
Remove cameras.
Remove the content manager. Just plug in the PC like the PSP.
XMB.
normal Micro SD for storage but since is Sony, don't make the special snowflake memory card mega expensive.
Some internal memory.
Normal usb cable for data transfer mini micro I don't know what is better.
>hating on Patapon
Based plebs
Where do you go after the Vita? Mobile hardware takes giant leaps ever couple of years and Japan alone isn't enough to sustain a product. The library has a lot to be desired, but its probably going to be the best designed handheld for the foreseeable future.
Nintendo would legitimately have to be bankrupt in order for Sony to consider releasing a new handheld.
Every single venture Sony attempted with handhelds has been a failure.
>PSP
>PSP Go
>Xperia Play
>Vita
>Vita TV
>Vita Slim
I understand some of you retards think that there is an open market for core audiences that want serious handheld games, but any company releasing a new handheld would immediately start getting bashed by the endless waves of Nintenbabbies bashing any portable system that isn't made by Nintendo.
There is no point in trying anymore.
>phones have killed the handheld market
Hardly. Handhelds are still the way to go if you want a full-featured gaymen experience on the go. The most popular phone games are always simple and small time wasters due a fuckton of reasons, ranging from lack of proper controls, lack of battery power and a complacent market that rarely goes beyond free or .99 cent games. If you really want a good game on a phone, you either need to dig for ages or emulate games from better platforms.
This. Plus most ports straight up don’t feel right on a tablet because devs hardly put the effort into optimizing it. Darkest Dungeon was a waste of money man
The PSP wasnt a failure
I have a fat Vita thats on 3.36 and a 16GB memory card thats tied to my Sony account. Should I update the Vita to use the memory card?
>The PSP was a failure
>The Xperia Play was the same part of the company
>The Vita gets listed three times
What are you even talking about?
Yeah, tablets and phones really aren't a good solution for serious gaming on the move. Absolutely fine for a little time waster, but I'd hate to be trying to entertain myself with just mobile games on a long flight or something. Even emulators on mobile aren't a brilliant experience, I'd rather a dedicated handheld for that.
The best you’ll get is a hybrid Sony console and even that’s a Stretch
The protecting children from abusive games act could kill gatcha. With gatcha dead, a psp3 could be viable. Could be the first legislation that actually sparks game innovation.
I just attempted setting up SD2Vita and was transferring my files over from the vita memory card to my sd card on PC, but then the connection got interrupted and corrupted the SD card. On the plus side it was just an old 32GB I had lying around. On the other hand I’m afraid my computer will freeze again when I try to use my 256GB card.
It seemed like vitashell stopped transferring when the vita fell asleep from being idle and the pc got stuck after that.
Am I retarded?
Vita’s library is full of fanservice games. With Sony censoring everything now it would greatly reduce the interest from those companies making anything for a vita 2
If it wasn’t for the PSP I never would have gotten into monster hunter.
How can you talk about PSP games without mentioning freedom unite?
I opened up my 3001 to replace the shell one day, discovered that the new shell I bought was for a slightly different model, and promptly put it back together.
Now the right button sticks despite not being held down, forcing the thing to open the CFW recovery menu on launch. Is it possible that I fucked up something in the ribbon somehow? I opened it up again recently to clean connections and double check, but no dice.
If I'm fucked, how easy is it to find reliable replacements for the right side button contact pad strip?
I'd welcome this with open arms. The console market needs real competition again with real handhelds.
Don't mind me. I'll just quietly eclipse the Vita in all possible ways...
That D-pad looks awful also it’s a phone.
I wouldn't be surprised if Sony attempts to copy the switch.
Why is this image
Yep, you get everything the vita can do + call & text.
I can play P4 Golden and Gravity Rush?
True, was just wondering if there was a specific type that was better than another. I guess I have nothing to lose when it's that cheap though.
>call
>text
those are huge negatives to have.
