You're underestimating core Nintendo fans. They're Smash's biggest demographic. It's valuable to appeal to Otaku (Joker, Reimu) and Western game fans (Crash, Banjo, Doomguy), but it's also value to give Smash's core audience another part of Nintendo's history (Porky, Adeleine, Isaac) to look at and pay tribute to. Even if those Nintendo characters are obscure or generally unknown to that demographic (they're not), they'll still love them and enjoy the new introduction to them.

Porky should be based entirely on Heavily Armed Porky. He should be full-size in the armor, about Ness's height, but very fat like usual. He would have to be one of the biggest and heaviest characters in the game. He should have the discolored skin and hair and that black & red suit on by default.
His Down B would be Very Stinky Gas. which makes every fighter to get caught in it weaker. They deal less damafe and take more damage for a short time.
Dash Attack would be his standard Charge Forward. Throwing his full weight into the opponent.
Mashing A will have him Tear Into the Opponent.
Final Smash could be turning off the Devil Machine and having Giygas hit you with an incomprehensible attack.
I don't know what the rest of his moveset would be but if you paid me to come up with something I'm sure I could. His armor is a Giygas monster, and there are many Giygas monsters in EarthBound to draw inspiration from. There's also his fights in Mother 3 and Brawl.
I think it's also important for him to be very expressive and animated in the armor. One of his taunts should be pointing his butt at the screen and giving it a few smacks, while he looks over with his shit-eating grin. Spankety spankety spankety.

There's a few problems with that. It doesn't look like Ness is at the cave of the past in the screenshot, and if it really is a trailer being shown in America where nobody knows what Earthbound is, they wouldn't be able to tell it's Earthbound by looking at Robo-Ness.

The majority of the Earthbound Fanbase are also Smash fans because it was Smash the one that introduced them to Mother, so Smash is the best way to hype them.
Also, Mother 1 and Earthbound were top sellers on the Wii U E-Shop.
