so when are they making a third game?

Would rather have a remake so they can actually remember what the story is.

Dragon Quest XI felt uncannily like Golden Sun

Issac at E3. I can feel it.

I want a combo deal just because fuck entering that damn password every time.

man that game was easily the most underrated of 2018. feels like yesterday that i played it and i want to do it again

Gold password have me ptsd too

Pick one and only one
Golden Sun 1 & 2 remake
>combines both games into one big open 3D action/adventure game
>bundles them together, just updates the graphics and sound and leaves the gameplay the sams

I just realized I named the other pic as Atalanta too when it's Nereida

you need to be more specific with the first one

Second.
Why the fuck would I want an "action" Golden Sun game.

Because Weyard would have a lot more depth in that perspective.

Ask away.

GOLDEN SUN RELOADED MOD PSA

Link to mod(s):
forum.goldensunhacking.net/index.php?topic=2779.0

>What is this jank?

Golden Sun Reloaded is a mod for the first two Golden Sun games, the purpose of which in the words of its creator: "...is to provide a harder and not too straightforward game, meant to be enjoyed by players that are quite knowledgeable with the game mechanics and want to try other things than Megiddo & Summon Rush."

There's a changelog in the link which goes through a lot of what actually changes, but in short the mod focuses on improving the combat system of vanilla by rebalancing some parameters; Enemies are significantly buffed, some gameplay design is altered to ward off Summon rushing, classes and Psynergy spells are retooled with new additions and changes.

These changes serve to make the relatively easy combat of vanilla into a deeper, more strategic and fun system that allows the present core mechanics to shine.

>Should I play it?

If you've already played GS and want a fresh experience, absolutely - Just about everyone I've talked to who played the mod recommend it.

Haven't played GS before but still interested? Assuming you've played some JRPGs before, you should be fine. Reloaded will most likely be a more interesting way for an experienced newcomer to play the game than pure vanilla

At the end of the day, its up to you if you want to mod it or not.

>I am clinically retarded, how do I patch the game

Use an IPS patcher:
fusoya.eludevisibility.org/lips/
to apply the mod on a clean ROM of Golden Sun. Alternatively wait for dumpanon who occasionally shows up with pre-patched ROM links in the thread.

Golden sun is a bad game we only tolerated because it vaguely plays and looks and especially sound like shining in the holy ark and had nothing better at the time

>Not sure if joking or not

Uh... They did?

I thought that lighting the lighthouses was necessary to save the world but it would also break it in the process? They kind of forgot about that and made a TL;DR cutscene for Alex. After the last boss fight I felt kind of robbed since Alex was setup to be this sort of mastermind pulling the strings. I really wanted him to be the main antagonist for a third and final entry where he has gained power from the Golden Sun but maybe not mastered it. Anything would be better than what we got.

Honestly I dont blame him

Bros I literally have never played the second game. Every time I consider it I go back to refresh and play the first and by the end of all of the slow text and dragged out ship part i don't want to play a sequel. That's not even getting into the 100 character password pass shit.

What am I missing? Is the second as good as the first?

What was the point of changing classes when mixing and matcing djinn combinations?
There is no spell set with isaac that is better than his default abilities. He can do damage or heal at any given moment and you lose that if you have to wait for a summon.
This is also applied to mia's wish well compared to stacking 4 waters on anyone else and being stuck with just wish.
its a really cool concept but not balanced well enough to take risks.

I love Isaac and Felix.

Waiting for E3 2019.
Camelot has to make a new Golden Sun game.

Because Samurai Isaac is more fun than Lord Isaac.

I think its technically better. It's more or less the same game with more content and bonus stuff.

Dungeons are definitely more frequent and much larger. You can actually get stuck in one or two of them if you're not careful.

The second is absolutely everything a sequel should be. It takes basically everything from the first game and improves upon it. Bigger world, more exploration, more dungeons, harder, more psynergies, classes, and djinns. If you do all the side content, it's easily a 40 hour RPG.

Mostly better. They smooth out the mechanics.

You can get lost though. Summons are even more useless.

The system was honestly unneeded. It added more depth as a fun factor but nothing required you to ever use it. You could power through anything using standard RPG grinding strats. I think I only ever used it to get Growth available ASAP for Isaac.

If enemies had elemental weaknesses and strengths I could see it being much more utilized. There was just nothing to tie it to the gameplay.

What are you talking about?
Mia gets the Wish series in literally all three of her dual-element classes (well, not the partial ones but who cares about partial classes) as well as White Mage, and changing up your Djinn lets you get Wish on both her AND another character.
Putting Wish on both Mia and Garet (i.e. in White Mage and Dragoon respectively) is a really strong option because Mia tends to heal early in the turn and Garet's slow ass tends to heal late in the turn, so you can bookend your turn with heals while Isaac and Ivan spam their strongest shit or do Djinn stuff.

They do, it's indicated by the fucking punctuation in the battle text of all things.
"X takes Y damage!" means the enemy was neutral to that element
"X takes Y damage!!!" means the enemy was weak to that element
"X takes Y damage." means the enemy was resistant to that element
Though vanilla is so easy that this never matters.

I have serious problems with how they handled the lore and world - pulling a bunch of previously unknown ancient civilizations out of their ass despite a bunch to pull from that were in the originals, the only original party members showing up being Isaac and Garet who are living in a shack together estranged from their wives just so they can look at a mountain, introducing plot points like psynergy vortexes and then dropping them until a cliffhanger that will never be resolved, etc.
Mechanically the game is pretty much identical to TLA with a nearly identical class system (with the only changes being a small handful of new classes for some of the new characters) and most other mechanics being essentially the same with the exception of the new unleash system which just felt like needless bells and whistles. Of course that's fine if you liked the GBA's combat but I would've preferred an evolution of the mechanics after such a long time.
All things considered though I don't think I could call it bad, but I also wouldn't say I recommend it unless you're a really big fan of the series

I have hella autism so I made this class system guide a while back but didn't end up posting it anywhere.
Maybe some of you will find it interesting.
The way it works is you start at the middle, and one step in the direction of any axis represents setting a Djinn of that element. The class key at the bottom tells you what each class is.
Interestingly, for all the odd, esoteric, and asymmetrical stuff in the class system it's interesting to me that every character has nearly identically structured class availability.

Attached: 1509773347186.jpg (598x714, 46K)

Yeah it's not the most straightforward thing but it's hard to condense so much information into one graphic given all the different elemental combinations
I was never satisfied with just lists of classes and Djinn requirements for them since that doesn't give a very good idea of how your class will change as you, for instance, use Djinn in battle.
What do you mean by "the first part"? Do you mean the left column?

Attached: catch'em all.jpg (254x181, 33K)

user it's almost all triangles
Do you mean the entire part above the class key?
The way you read it is you choose the row corresponding to the element of the Adept you're interested in. Use the left side for 2-element classes and the right side for 3-element classes. I made these two categories separate since 2-element classes vary depending on Djinn of your own element, but 3-element classes do not. By the way, the 3-element charts display 2-element classes assuming you have as full investment in your own Djinn element as possible.
The best way to read the charts is to start from the middle, which represents having no Djinn set. If you step 1 tile in any direction along the labeled axes (which are also indicated by grey lines) that represents setting 1 Djinn of that element.
So for instance let's say you want to know what happens when Isaac equips 6 Mercury Djinn and 1 Venus Djinn.
Isaac is a Venus adept and this is a 2-element class, so use the top left chart, and use the sub-triangle with a Mercury axis.
Starting in the middle, equipping 6 Mercury Djinn pushes you 6 tiles down-left, and 1 Venus Djinn pushes you 1 tile up. Then you can look up the tile you land on in the key to see what class you'll be in - Guardian, in this case.
Now imagine you're in-battle in this class and you used a Djinn. You can easily see what that will do to your class with the chart.
If you use a Venus Djinn, that means a step away from the Venus axis, meaning 1 step downwards, putting you in Shaman.
If you use a Mercury Djinn, that means a step away from the Mercury axis, meaning 1 step up-right, putting you in Cavalier.

like 9 years ago.

To be fair the game didn't do a very good job (or do anything, really) to tell you how the class system worked or which classes were good.
I remember loading up one of my old save files from when I was a kid and seeing the stupid as fuck class setup I had that had half my characters in useless classes.

Fixed.

It looks impressive. I'm going to save it so I can take a proper look at it later. Thank you user

Golden Sun had cool, unique ideas that were never sufficiently explored.

Wrong, the game completely forces you to experience the changing class system since you can't distribute the djinn in a way everyone is paired with its element in a lot situations, and you literally can't progress in the game after the very first (non-tutorial) village (Vault) without changing classes, and the Colosso even shows you playing with items and djinn can let you have crazy psynergies you never expected

please rise for the national anthem
youtube.com/watch?v=g3vKQYX0bu0

It makes you fuck with your Djinn configurations insofar as you have to screw about to get an overworld Psynergy now and then but that doesn't really teach you anything other than "there are other classes" which can seem pretty underwhelming in battle early game since you lose access to stuff like Cure. There's not really anything to indicate how the class cadence works, and its entirely possible to have full Djinn loadouts that put you in low-tier classes.
On my first time playing as a kid I'd just switch to get utility Psynergy and then immediately switch back to mono-element as soon as I could. Ended up clearing the game without even knowing that 3-element classes existed.
To be fair I'm not really sure what they should've done to make it more clear other than just straight up having an in-game guide.

The class system is really weird, I know because I've been working on a basic Golden Sun roguelike (I'm just trying to learn how to program and I thought it would be fun to just take GS mechanics and adapt them into a roguelike as 1 to 1 as possible).
Basically characters have element levels. A character starts with 5 in their primary element. A Djinn gives 1 to the element of the Djinn. Then the game looks for a table to have you pick a class from. The tables are Monoelemental, earth, fire, wind water, earth/fire, wind/water. The reason the last 2 exist is because of a thing called affinty, venus and mars are affinities, as are jupiter and mercury.
So if you're monoelemental you go to the monoelemental table. If your affinity (so fire if you Isaac, water if you are Ivan etc) is your first or second highest then you draw from your affinity table (earth/fire table or wind/water table). Otherwise you draw from the table of your second highest element.
That last bit about second highest element has some weird effects, because it means if a character's primary becomes their second highest (something overtakes it) then they draw from their own element table, but not monoelemental. That is why Ivan can get Ninja for example even though Ninja is from the wind table. It's pretty weird but it's cool when you understand it. I'm thinking about messing with element levels in my game and having it so you can start with say 3 in one element and 2 in another instead of starting with 5. That would be kind of broken though because it would allow you to start with an upgraded class such as Ruffian right at the beginning and get to tri-elementals super early

need GS lewds

Attached: 1525881588037.jpg (700x1050, 308K)

I'm pretty well-versed in the behind-the-scenes workings as well - if you look closely at the colors on my chart, you'll notice that each class tile is color coded outside-to-inside based on elemental levels, i.e. purple outside yellow inside means a higher Jupiter level, vice versa means higher Venus level, etc. The 2-element charts also illustrate fairly well the property you mentioned about the elemental levels from your Djinn overtaking your main element; once you get to 6 Djinn equipped of another element, you flip over to the class with that as the primary instead of the secondary. However this isn't true for "affinity" elements as you call them (I generally use "symbiotic" instead)
Your explanation is pretty accurate overall but as I understand it the tables the game uses are a little more complicated than what you describe, with a separate table for each primary+secondary combination (actually that's not quite right, but it's... complicated, I need to dig up my documentation)

kay

Attached: 359253-golden_sun-mia_237350375.jpg (700x813, 159K)

I might be wrong but I believe within each table the game just starts at the bottom and works it's way up until it finds one you meet the requirements for. So if you meet the requirements for a tri elemental then you'll get that. Otherwise it will look through the dual elementals until it finds one you meet. There are 2 dual elemental class lines in each table but I don't think it's possible for you to meet both of them at once in normal play, that would require more elemental points than are ever normally available I think

>I might be wrong but I believe within each table the game just starts at the bottom and works it's way up until it finds one you meet the requirements for.
That's correct, but only within the class table you're in
>There are 2 dual elemental class lines in each table
In most of them, yes, but the symbiotic-pair tables only have the one
>but I don't think it's possible for you to meet both of them at once in normal play
That's correct due to the way they're broken up.
The way that they break up the classes into tables is really esoteric, it took me quite a while to figure out how it worked (I only learned the details by using hacking tools and reading documentation from other people, I'm not sure if you can even really sort this out just through observation)
The game lumps together symbiotic pairs a lot, so I've taken to calling the Venus-Mars pair the "Warm" classes and the Jupiter-Mercury pair the "Cold" classes
There are 6 different multi-element tables:
>Primary Warm, Secondary Mercury
>Primary Warm, Secondary Jupiter
>Primary Cold, Secondary Venus
>Primary Cold, Secondary Mars
>Primary Warm, Secondary (other) Warm
>Primary Cold, Secondary (other) Cold
It's a pretty odd system because there's two different ways to end up in each table
Another way to look at it that's more in line with your explanation is that there are actually two tables for every secondary element (not just one like you suggest), and which one you get depends on whether your primary element is Warm or Cold.

I'll do you one better
youtube.com/watch?v=-8hXI8Vsue0

>is that there are actually two tables for every secondary element (not just one like you suggest), and which one you get depends on whether your primary element is Warm or Cold.
I'm not really sure what you mean by this. The wind table contains Apprentice, Page and Ninja. Apprentice and Page are both warm classes, and what you're saying doesn't include Ninja. As far as I'm aware it checks to see if you meet the requirements for Ninja, then checks Page and then Apprentice.

Although what you're saying about separating it into 2 tables makes sense if you're trying to understand how it works practically when playing the game but I think from a programming perspective that's unnecessary, I would be surprised if it actually works like that in the games code. Also like I said I like the idea of having it be more generalised rather than focusing on primary element since I think it would be cool to have characters that have base element levels as something other than 5 in their primary

>I've taken to calling the Venus-Mars pair the "Warm" classes and the Jupiter-Mercury pair the "Cold" classes
According to classical elementalism, those are the dry and wet pairings.

>The wind table contains Apprentice, Page and Ninja
Yeah, but calling that the "wind table" is a little misleading since that's the table you end up with if your SECONDARY element is wind and your primary element ISN'T water. If your primary is water, you end up in a different table.
Though I get that you addressed that by clarifying that symbiotic pairs have their own tables which I missed earlier.
Plus when I hear "wind table" I think the mono-element Jupiter table which is its own thing.
Ultimately though I think we're both just describing the same thing with different terminology.
>Although what you're saying about separating it into 2 tables makes sense if you're trying to understand how it works practically when playing the game but I think from a programming perspective that's unnecessary, I would be surprised if it actually works like that in the games code.
It sort of is how it's done in the code, if the explanation I read was reliable (I don't possess the reverse-engineering knowhow to look into it myself) - it checks both your primary and secondary element, then checks a table to assign you a "class group" and then picks the last class with that class group in the list that you qualify for
Mars/Jupiter -> Apprentice/Page/Ninja group
Venus/Jupiter -> Apprentice/Page/Ninja group
Mercury/Jupiter -> Hermit/White Mage group
Jupiter/Jupiter ->Wind Seer (apparently, this technically occurs if none of your other elemental levels other than Jupiter are 1 or higher)
I think in the end the only place we differ is you call the Apprentice/Page/Ninja group the "wind table" and the Hermit/White Mage group the "wind/water affinity table" whereas I call them the "Warm/Jupiter" and "Cold/Cold" groups respectively

Oh yeah, real-world elementalism has earth as cold and wind as warm.
It's the other way around in in-universe lore according to Kraden, though, which is kind of obnoxious.

It sucks because the grinch leak was the best thing to happen to gs since Dark Dawn. In terms of exposure anyways

Yes and no, they aren't talking about a natural alignment but the weather effect, it's obvious that even if the air is a warm element the Jupiter Lighthouse will cool the planet if the side effect is more frequent and stronger winds combined with the natural cold of the Mercury Lighthouse

Yeah I think the problem here is that I'm thinking in terms of how to program it while you're thinking in terms of how to make something that's easy to read and intuitive. In my system primary element is only used for tie breaking so you don't end up with separate tables for every character, it doesn't matter if you're Isaac or Ivan you go through the same set of rules to determine your class. This works better from a programming perspective I think but is less intuitive.

For instance the mono-elemental table contains 4 completely different classes of completely different elements, but that's fine because they are all mutually exclusive, you just look to check which one the character fits and there's no issues. The element labelled tables (used for your second highest if you're not an affinity class) contain a tri elemental and 2 different dual elementals, but that's fine because we want the tri-elemental to have priority over the dual elementals and the dual elementals are mutually exclusive again, you shouldn't be able to meet the requirements for both. It all just works.

> it checks both your primary and secondary element
I think we've been using these terms differently but it might not matter. I was thinking of primary element being your starter element, the one that in my system you start with 5 element levels in. Not the one you have the most points in.

I guess it is possible that what you're saying is how the game works but I have no idea. Our systems are identical except I think mine is easier to program while yours makes more logical sense for a human to work with and is probably what I would explain to someone if they just wanted to know how it works in order to play the game

So how much have I been missing out on by only playing single element runs for all these years? I've not done much experimenting with mixing Djinn to get the dual and tri element classes.

Hmm, I seem to remember that they made it pretty clear they were speaking in terms of alignment, not just weather, including a justification of why Venus is warm despite being irrelevant to the weather patterns. I'd have to go find that scene again to be sure though.

>I think we've been using these terms differently but it might not matter. I was thinking of primary element being your starter element, the one that in my system you start with 5 element levels in. Not the one you have the most points in.
In terms of class assignment though, isn't your "innate element" irrelevant?
>The element labelled tables (used for your second highest if you're not an affinity class)
This is the only thing I don't understand yet about your system. How/when do you check if you're in an affinity class? Not that that would necessarily be difficult, but it's something you have to do.
Whereas on the other hand, the way the games deal with this is actually pretty efficient from a programming standpoint, because all they need to do is read your primary and secondary element, look up the corresponding class group in a 2D array, and bam, you're good to go. No need for a separate conditional to check for an affinity class or anything of the like.

I'd say you're missing out big time. There's lots of nice 3-element classes like Ninja and White Mage.
Plus it's much faster to use summons when you have multiple people with the same Djinn element.
One of my favorite strats is
>Turn 1
>Isaac uses Kite on Ivan
>Mia uses whatever Jupiter Djinn
>Turn 2
>Ivan uses whatever attack for his first action
>Isaac uses another Jupiter Djinn
>Mia uses another Jupiter Djinn
>Ivan uses his second action (which ensures the others go first) to summon Thor
Stage 4 summon turn 2 is pretty sick
A lot of people don't know that you can select Summons even if they're not ready at the time of selecting, and still use them as long as they're ready by the time you act

Back when I last played which was years ago now I tended to prefer not summoning or using djinn as keeping them set reduced your stats and in end game you lost access to some nice spells I believe. Stuff like Odyssey, Diamond Berg, Liquifier, and whatever one Jenna had. Sheba and Ivan didn't get any hard hitting single target spells when running mono-element if I remember right.

I might have to do a replay and experiment a bit more.

Because Camelot is a shit game company that couldn't write itself out of a paper bag. They had to split the first game into two cartridges because of how absolutely trash their writing staff is and even then couldn't manage to write a coherent story.

Procne.
Tiamat's hips.

Little known fact: TLA can perfectly accommodate 10 Djinn per character without problems, but 11 per character will glitch the Djinn menu. 9 per character is the most you can get legitimately.
One way to do this is use a walk-through-walls cheat to get Djinn you'd normally need Isaac's team for with only the regular party.
There are 8 unused Djinn in the game's code, which along with the above fact suggests they might have originally planned on 10 per character.
Plus, you know those "partial classes" every character has where they can get a few stages of certain class lines, but not the final stages? With 10 Djinn per character, they all can access the final stage of every class they get, so you can have setups like Sheba as a Master.

Innate element is used for tie breaking. There's an order it goes in for each element. For example, the order for Venus is Earth->Water->Wind->Fire. The order for Mars is Fire->Wind->Water->Earth
And you just check if someone's affinity is their first or second highest after checking if they're mono-elemental. If they're not an affinity class then you give put them in the table of their second highest. So it's basically 2 checks you have to make after you know what their first and second highest are.

Also I guess I don't really understand yours. Do you have a separate table for venus/jupiter vs jupiter/venus? So for the non-affinity non-monoelemental tables you'd have:
venus/jupiter
venus/mercury
mars/jupiter
mars/mercury
jupiter/venus
jupiter/mars
mercury/venus
mercury/mars
If that's true I guess I got it the other way round. I guess yours is easier to program because you literally just need to know the first and second highest and then get the corresponding table but you end up with way more tables. I actually think this probably is how it was made in game then. It's actually functionally different from mine though because in mine affinity is tied to innate element. The thing I read talks about it in terms of Primary->Neutral->Weakness->Affinity where all the elements are tied together that way. It's the same normally but if you start to extrapolate then it's different.

So I suppose the differences between our systems is that yours either doesn't tie affinity to innate element or it assumes your innate element will be your first or second element, while mine has an extra check for your affinity based on innate element. As well as the fact that mine condenses tables down, whereas yours has more tables and has certain classes within multiple tables (ninja will be in both venus/jupiter and mars/jupiter). Yours probably actually works better for extrapolating since it puts less emphasis on innate element.

Mia being in Jenna's place is so strange because it has a sort of butterfly effect on everything else.
Does Jenna exist at all?
Is Felix Mia's sister instead of Jenna's?
If not, how does Felix's introduction go?
Is Alex still related to Mia?
Is there no Mercury Clan protecting Mercury Lighthouse?
I hope a beta leaks someday, I want to know how the hell all this works out.

cute!

>There's an order it goes in for each element. For example, the order for Venus is Earth->Water->Wind->Fire. The order for Mars is Fire->Wind->Water->Earth
One interesting fact about tiebreaking is it actually works on the same logic for each adept so you just need to remember one principle
Priority goes Innate > Antisymbiotic > Opposite > Symbiotic for every Adept. And that's not the result of an algorithm or something, it's like manually entered in due to the weird way elemental levels work (Djinn actually increase elemental levels by 10, adepts start with 54 in their innate element, and have 3, 2, and 1 in their Antisymbiotic, Opposite, and Symbiotic elements respectively)
>yours has more tables and has certain classes within multiple tables (ninja will be in both venus/jupiter and mars/jupiter)
It avoids that by having venus/jupiter and mars/jupiter map to the same table, so it actually is pretty much the same as your system.
The actual only difference between the system you describe and the one the game implements, as far as I can tell, is you have a specific check for affinity classes based on innate elements, while the game just puts both venus/mars and mars/venus into the same table simply based on elemental levels.

where can i get a nice condition gameboy advance SP ?

In my search for info on mechanics I found this (not much used anymore) forum
forum.goldensunhacking.net/
A good chunk of my info that can't be found by experimentation is from some ancient thread about the class system there
They also have a pretty nice utility that can edit a lot of stuff in the game, some stuff like the elemental levels thing can be gleaned just by poking around in the editor.
forum.goldensunhacking.net/index.php?topic=1.0
I'd highly suggest giving it a whirl
You can see for yourself the way that it orders and numbers the classes (including stuff like putting Apprentice/Page/Ninja next to each other, with Ninja last so it takes priority, basically just as you described in your system)
You can also give adepts multiple innate elements like you mentioned earlier to see what their class structures look like (there's some weird oddities due to various idiosyncracies)

Maybe the map changed so much because they realized they'd need to have most of Angara inaccessible in TLA? If they wanted to keep the map consistent between games, they'd have to remove any open coasts on Angara.
Might be somewhat corroborated by the fact that the patch of Angara where Champa and the Ankohl Ruins are exists in a pretty accurate to TLA state in the first game, complete with a coast.

>Open map is too confusing for normies
It's probably that and Air's Rock filtering them.
goldensun-zone.de/goldensun2/bilder/orte/karten/Bora-Felsen.png

>Maybe the map changed so much because they realized they'd need to have most of Angara inaccessible in TLA?
Ah, yes. That's brilliant, user.
I guess they originally intended for you to be able to travel back, then realized that they couldn't for whatever reason.
Perhaps it was all too big to fit on a cart.

well something had to cause the games to be split, the map is the most obvious candidate

Yeah so my systems kind of fucked after all because of how I've tied affinity to innate element. I also didn't think to have elements be multiples of 10 and then have innate elements have 4/3/2/1 to do tie breaking, even though that makes a tonne of sense. I did say I was trying to learn programming after all, at least now I know the better way to do it.

I actually kind of want to roll with what I've done though because I could try making dual elemental classes for Earth-Fire that isn't an affinity class. So if someone with Mercury or Jupiter as their primary element equips a tonne of Venus and Mars Djinn they get a new class instead of brute. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense but I think it will be fun.

And it's a shame that forum is dead. I wish the Golden Sun community in general were more active. It seems like they're accomplished a lot in the past though just looking through the threads

>I also didn't think to have elements be multiples of 10 and then have innate elements have 4/3/2/1 to do tie breaking
To be fair that's a pretty dang bizarre but clever way to do it
If you're not trying to cut corners to cram as much onto a GBA cart as possible there's really no reason to do it like that.
If I was writing a system from scratch I don't know that I'd end up with anything like the game's version at all, especially because I think I'd probably want, for instance, Jupiter adepts to have full access to the Venus/Mars/Jupiter tri-element classes
>And it's a shame that forum is dead
Their discord seems decently active still

Makes me wonder how much of TLA they had planned out at the time the original released.
That reminds me of how there's an unused Alex portrait conspicuously located after Felix, Jenna, and Sheba in the code. Was he going to be a party member? If so, when did they change their minds?
It's kinda crazy how significantly the story must have changed.

Oh sweet, a golden sun thread.
You only see a good one of these once a decade.

Anyway, the most important thing I can contribute with is this thing:
reddit.com/r/GoldenSun/comments/4cdtqb/golden_sun_soundtrack_remaster_project_its/

Someone recreated the entirety of the soundtrack using the original midi files and uploaded it. So if you want some of that golden sun music in retardedly good quality, there you go.

I'm pretty sure a Jupiter adept with 4 Earth and 6 Fire, or 6 Earth and 4 Fire should have access to the highest level Ninja class. You just need to make sure Wind is your second highest rather than your first highest. If he had 6 Fire and 6 Earth he should be able to get Samurai as well. So really all you'd have to do is let them have more Djinn

That is correct, and you can even do it in TLA with cheats, see But personally I'd want them to have access to the full class with just 9 Djinn and the same cadence as their other 3-element classes

So I never played Dark Dawn, and something about the northern fire tribe always made me curious. Between their skin tone being so weird, their non-human eyes and ears, their fire affinity and the fact that they have so much draconic imagry/some can become dragons, were they simply meant to be a tribe of dragons who, in an Alchemy starved world, took on human shapes because they didn't have enough Psynergy to sustain their forms?

Did he? Camelot isn't even owned by Nintendo, I can't imagine Iwata would have the power to fire staff from a self owned studio, I always thought staff left because the studio stopped making RPGs, and that's what that staff wanted to make.
>I hope the success of Aces helps them out.
They've had years of successful sports spinoff titles, yet all they've made are more sports spinoff titles, I think the part where they no longer need to make sports titles for a handheld and sports titles for a home console will be the biggest force for getting them to make something else, but it's even more likely that they will just make a 4 sports titles for a single platform instead. I think the studio lacks passion, I think that they are no longer interested in making anything but sports titles that will give them a continued and guaranteed pay check.

I always interpreted them as a race of humans who took on dragon-like traits from the Mars Lighthouse. Kind of like the werewolves of Garoh.

My god no, how the fuck do you make that comparison? In what way is it anything like Golden Sun?

>so when are they making a third game?
Soonâ„¢

>i know the original team is probably long gone
Those that are still alive might be willing to come back if they were making a GS game.

>still alive

Golden Sun 3 was a shitty misstep, but Golden 1/ and 2 had the benefit of being one story and game split between two games. Fuck I loved the original games. Saturos/Menardi were the coolest enemies. Son of a bitch

Attached: 2r2gynjpeqv11.png (1024x538, 571K)

I feel like story would have benefited from having Saturos and Menardi survive Venus Lighthouse, and go on to menace and bully Felix, so he could build himself up to a moment where he finally stands up against them.

Attached: niki-o89.jpg (400x480, 43K)

I agree, keeping them around for that would have been awesome but as like a ten year old playing it I couldn't believed that they were actually killed. It was such a cool game

Either make the complexity of the battle system worth experimenting with, or just get rid of it. Also spend more than 2 minutes thinking up monsters to fight, the random encounters in GS were some of the least memorable I've ever gone through.

Can't Jenna Banenna use psyenergy in the first Golden Son's opening chapter?

Mia or Jenna?

Is this the man behind the glorious designs and art style of Golden Sun 1 & 2? If he's dead, so is Golden Sun.

Ivan

I miss Golden Sun. This game reminded me a lot of Shining Force in terms of aesthetic

there's something about gs that gives me warm fuzzies on the inside

I wish Felix had been bitten and turned into a werewolf.
Would be fun for the story and the gameplay.

Has there ever been a more iconic evil duo in vidya?

Attached: hqdefault.jpg (480x360, 23K)

Attached: 0acd1503.jpg (600x554, 96K)

I don't think that's how you become a werewolf in GS.

>Either make the complexity of the battle system worth experimenting with
Shouldn't be too difficult for them to do
Make encounters have more monsters in them, make status ailments far more dangerous (and give more moves the ability to inflict them) and of course buff the stats of all the monsters.
Change how early you get certain moves like Ragnarok, because it comes way too early for how powerful it is.
Nerf summons in some way, as they're way too OP.

So, Golden Sun?

Dark Dawn is furry trash. Dark Dawn indeed, should have just let the world end instead of having people turn into fucking furries.

Put Isaac/Felix in Mario Tennis

The first time you enter onto Lemuria in golden sun 2 is still one of my top ten moments in video games, even to this day i remember that feel of strangeness, melancholy and wonder.

Yeah, if they wanted beast races, they could have done it a bit better

This, but replace "wonder" with "neat, now I can finally spend my lucky medals"

Yes

Yes. The werewolves were cool as fuck.
I wish they had more to do with the plot or something, though.
But I guess I should be happy that the games have nice optional stuff.

Not like it matters, the main games are all translated.

I'm glad you are a man of reason like me. Don't let people get away with furtrash my man. I've been trying to combat this shit since dark dawn launched, it's been a constant fight, but we will get there. More will rally, they will join the cause.

So which Shining games are the best ones?
I've only played the GBA remake of Shining Force.

shining force 1, 2, 3 some spinoffs are also good, nintendie ports are trash

All the older games (As in almost any Shining game up to the Sega Saturn era) are at least decent. Shining Force 2 is usually the fan favorite in general and even if you don't play the others, it's distant enough to be enjoyed without missing much from the other games.

They should honestly retcon dark dawn out, it ruined too many things

Thanks, bros.

How is emulating GS2 with the password and stuff, can you just copy paste it?

Have dark dawn and it sucks dick. Gonna hijack thread and see if an user can figure out what game I’m thinking of.
>can kill animals in overworld and collect meat from them to use
>gba game
That’s all I remember that was unique about it

They could've done something good with it but too many things went wrong. Points of no return, 8 member party (and no time to develop any of them), disappointing story, and the loss of the beautiful 2D art. Just a travesty all around.

>can you just copy paste it?

Attached: angry skeleton.png (241x314, 129K)

I just downloaded a save where it was already typed it, and right after the long intro

Yeah, there is so many loose ends that are never resolved too, also the ending felt underwhelming

You can open 2 emulators and basically pretend you're using a link cable

Add Tales Of style skits to flesh out your party members. Some of them do have personalities, you just don't get to see it much. There's a lot of attention to detail in the world and NPCs that's overlooked because of the flat characters.

Even if it wasn't a better game, imagine how much better DD would have sold if it were on the 3DS during its JRPG drought period.

>all this art I've never seen before
Shit, I thought I already had all of the good stuff. Thanks for keeping the thread alive this long, guys. I need to play through Lost Age Reloaded, I had a blast playing through 1 with that patch last year.
I'll be honest, I made the mistake of getting too invested in Smash and it still hurts. I need to come to GS threads more often and get it out of my system.

Idk really anything about Dark Dawn, wasn't there only one furry party member and wasn't she basically a nekomimi or whatever?

Maybe if we'd gotten more games years back, the series would be memorable enough to warrant the ocassional thread. Still can't figure out why Battle Network threads stay up so easily/frequently

what is this game and is it worth playing

outdated format
xdelta and bsx have hash checking and they allow to expand the size of the rom, for example

Oh I see. That is weird then.

If you really like JRPGs, then try it.

Golden Sun is a JRPG series that started on the Gameboy Advance. TbT battles, lots of puzzles, over-the-top magic weapons and spells and countless hours of chat between your party members and NPCs. First two games are super fun and could basically be a single game since the second one happens immediatly after the events of the first title. Third game is on the Nintendo DS, is meh and has boring points of no return.

I play these games (except for DD) every year and still have fun with them
It's so strange

A JRPG that's a bit bloated in dialogue, a simple but fun combat system, a story that might have a bit too many questions with little answers, a lot of puzzles which may or may not test your patience, great music, and a password that would make Action Replay codes look a bit smaller.
While not mind blowing, it's still a good JRPG that's worth your time. Don't expect anything to be truly outstanding, but a well rounded game with not too many flaws.
Also say no after you complete the first real dungeon of the game.

fpbp

Camelot is stuck in Mario Sports hell, sorry Isaacfags.

Sounds pretty good. Is it possible to emulate it?

I do, there's way too much dialog already as it is.

They can cut down on all the unnecessary dialogue

Doesn't that stray too far from alchemy lore? Not an expert.

Light and Dark magic became a thing

The cute furries turned golden in the sun and their alchemy changed to light element.

Literally kys

Attached: 13885792_p0.png (600x440, 17K)

Yeah, and Lost Age has a lot of empty space that could be filled up and made into a better game, maybe make it so you get to the first lighthouse earlier so more of the game is played with all 8 characters, that would be super cool

I want a remake so they can fix 2, a prequel so we can know what the fuck happens between 2 and 3, and a sequel so we know what happens after that fucking cliff hanger

I always compare DQ to Golden Sun which is why I always find its combat lacking, just not enough options, if you don't have MP your basically sol

That's what most people suggest when the topic comes up

Someday, just not for their next game

First game you don't miss out that much by staying single element, 2 and 3 are the ones that make more use of class change

Reminder that this is the best part of the entire series, literally made me happy when it happened

No wonder many talk about the series this much

Attached: 1519234934761.jpg (713x456, 79K)

They're really pretty generous including the party in the story and other dialogues, only thing I would really add as a net positive is letting Felix talk like he did in 1 for 2

A Breath of the Wild or Wind Waker would be nice too. I’d love to explore Weyard in its entirety.

So whats with the GS threads lately did something get announced?

Nothing happened, I guess people just felt like talking about the game again now that most of the roster shitposting has blown over outside of steveposting. With E3 coming up we can pretend that Camelot aren't just going to make another Mario sports game.

Attached: Piers.webm (458x344, 1.61M)

You play the first two games and have a good time, but its only when you finish 2 and return to Mt Aleph at the end of it all that you realize it was a masterpiece

Attached: Embrace.png (240x119, 16K)

You know with all these dedicated people who've basically completley reversed engineered the original games, even if Nintendo doesn't have the source code anymore they could just go to these guys to properly remaster and even enhance the original game, I think that's what I want most, not a remake but the original games just enchnced/tweaked

>This guy slaps your girlfriends ass, wat do?

I think they're still pretty fucking good, I agree original game is unmatched but they just about translated it to 3D as good as you could possibly hope, the design on DS has tons of style, I bet it took a ton of work to make it look like the GBA and they managed to pull it off I think.

mind read is so sweet, no other game has a mechanic that lets you literally read the minds of NPCs, it totally changes the dynamic if what you hear from then, I love itYeah it's kinda obvious

I like Isaac being silent in the first game, its makes his comeback in 2 all the more powerfull

Because he took off his mask and it was extremely painful.

and here comes the autism

He didn't do the character designs, just the monster ones

The elemental star place

Do we even have any chance of getting something ?
GS 2 made me love videogames. The utter lack of respect this series gets greatly upsets me

>All this voting for the 1+2 remake instead of a new game
But why? The first two still exist.

Dark Dawn had to many furries, but Svetti was okay, but maybe give her slightly less for and a more human nose

Because they need to get back to these games if we want them to make the fourth one to be at least okay

>all these niggers who want remakes
how retarded can you be?
they'd utilize the same cheap, ugly-ass graphics that companies like IntSys use, if not worse, and they wouldn't even fix or improve the gameplay.
What the fuck is wrong with this industry and constantly wanting remakes of games you've already played? As per usual, the demand is absolutely the cancer as opposed to the supplier.

Ye

It would take them less time to play those games and understand what a proper sequel needs.

>Dark Dawn had too many furries
There was an entire village of werewolves complete with wolf shotas in TLA, never mind Prox.

They should just release all 3 games in a 40 dollar package on the switch as a collection. Or even make a remaster of the first 2 games using the 3D engine of the 3rd to gauge interest for a 4th one.

God damn I really want a 4th game.

You seem to think that furshit is a new concept in Camelot games. Play Shining games zoomie

>"Hey chief, 30 years have passed since the last games, how do we show that the characters are older?"

I love how the go-to way to age a character in vidya is to have them look essentially exactly the same and then throw a beard on them

Attached: AndreLaughingForInfiniteTime.jpg (1085x1217, 137K)

I forgot to post it since somebody already posted the patch, but for anybody still around who wants it or needs it, here's GS1 and 2 pre-patched, both in ROM form and in CIA form for anybody who wants to play it on a hacked 3DS.
mega.nz/#!spoHQbhQ!UQw8gZo69JmY8Y2C9rTQMZDJQAML-oF7A7asCdZrdmI
This also contains vanilla ROMs and CIAs for the pure experience. There's also a DD ROM if you want to play that for some reason.

Attached: Jenna Spin.gif (1000x800, 1.11M)

Attached: 1554055113772.jpg (540x651, 79K)

Considering that everybody present at the end of TLA got granted either immortality or greatly enhanced lifespans, a beard and a haircut is genuinely the only way to make Isaac and Garet look older because if they shave they wouldn't look a day older.

Tales-style skits would be welcome to flesh out the cast. I realize the reloaded mod already accomplishes this and it might not be normie-friendly considering how easy vanilla GS is, but if a remake could justify switching classes it would give the impressive class system more room to grow. I want shit like Reloaded where I need to create more healers just to keep up with the insane damage output.

A remake should probably encompass 1 and 2 at the very least, I don't see the benefit of staggering their releases.

Of course, I certainly wouldn't mind if Camelot has paid attention to our threads and decide to roll with the headcannon so they re-write some parts to fit better with the narrative.

There is officially no more room for arguing who is the superior protag.

He's two years older than Isaac, Isaac is a growing boy.

I have never even heard of Golden Sun games, are they good? I only ever used my Gameboys for Pokemon and wario

It's almost like that was the actual plot and the reason Karst has romantic feelings for Felix.

>I have played a lot of JRPGs
Not really, no.
>I have barely played JRPGs
Yeah, they're good.

I still think TLA is above 95% of jrpgs

I mean if you're including the mountains of shovelware and pandering garbage, yeah, sure. It's a decent game, easily the best in the franchise and worth checking out even if you don't want to bother with 1 or DD, but there's plenty better.

Ah good I haven't played many jrpgs so I will give them a go. I have a raspberry pi with thousands of games on it and I am sure they are on the Gameboy ones

SOUL

I hope they someday decide to stretch their legs with an RPG again instead of coasting on tennis.

Attached: Leave Golden Sun to Us.jpg (509x628, 93K)

I guess its because Mario sports stuff probably sells a lot of copies and is easier money in comparsion, but JRPGs is how Camelot first got its name and built their company. I'd be baffled if they at least don't consider making more JRPGs when they obviously have a knack for it.

I get the impression it's less that they want to remain permanently in the sports mines and more the combination of losing their RPG staff over time and DD not being the success they needed to convince Nintendo or other publishers to fund RPGs. Particularly when Nintendo is going to make more money if they tell them to make another golf or tennis game instead of funding a pitch for another game.

Please remove them and give Camelot to competent leaders.

Tons of places to use besides Lighthouses.

There's the four rocks in TLA, Sol Sanctum, Anemos Inner Sanctum, that palace at the end of Dark Dawn if it needs to be more recent. There's also stuff like using the flying ship, though Smash already has way too many things like that.

Sky's the limit really, it's an RPG after all.

True, not sure if they'd have the team for it these days. I hope they ask at some point. Just make sure they get Sakuraba for that classic JRPG feel.

>he deleted it

I want Sveta to sniff my peeny

>Yiff
she's mostly human in that form, the only animal things are the ears, hands, legs and tail

That's why her tanky form is better.

Trying to beat Dullahan legit is a really good fight in DD.

I'm not a huge fan of Air's Rock but I do appreciate it from a pacing perspective. Aqua was my favourite even if it was simple and Gaia was just cool as fuck.
Magma Rock can fuck right off though. Fuck that dungeon.

A LOT OF WISDOM FOR A FLYING ROCK

Dropped

Spanish golden sun has the best names
Isaac < Hans
Sheba < Sole

golden sun already had multiplayer battles, the only difference is that it wouldn't be exclusively local

YOU DON'T GET TO BRING ADEPTS

nigger
French names are where it's at.
Vlad > Isaac
Cylia > Sheba
Pavel > Felix
Salamandar / Phoenixia > Saturos / Menardi

>Isaac is apparetly too strange for Spain, even when people are called Isaac all over the country. Let's put in a German name instead.
>Sheba is too strange for Spaniards, so just name it Sole. But shit like Saturos and Menardi is ok.
Sure, whatever.

Where's the option for none because this awful series should never be played

kys

>Pavel
>Wears a mask
>Makes a leap of faith from high altitude
Lmao

I played the first hour of the first game, and it was ass. I'm glad I didn't play this when I was a kid.

those names are much better, and isaac is already the name of abraham's kid
Sole > Cylia > Sheba
Pavel = Felix
>Vlad
i see his main djinn is steel

Don't encourage falseflagging discordtrannies, I just want to keep a chill vibe in the GS threads without those autists sperging out.

On the plus side assuming we just keep making the threads every once in a while we should eventually stop seeing them when they inevitably kill themselves and leave us alone.
