I know Megaten is basically just SMT by virtue of SMT needing to exist and Atlus rolling in Persona merchandise money, but I want a new Devil Summoner.

Either a period piece like Raidou or the modern/futurish Devil Summoner/Soul Hackers stuff. Besides the cool cyberpunk motif I like the idea of investigating supernatural mysteries, and it's a nice break from the post-apocalyptic main SMT series.

It's possible we get another Atlus Golden Age if they master the Unreal Engine like they did back on the PS2. If so, we might get new Raidou, new weird crazy spin-offs.

Anyone know a good grinding spot in SMT1 after beating Yama in Ikebukuro? All the equipment on the ground floor is expensive as fuck compared to everything that was available in the previous area. Can I just skip it for now and go straight to Ueno?

7th gen was not kind to A/AA-level publishers. 6th gen and the very cheap and successful DS family could buoy them but the massive cost spikes going into the PS3/360 era crippled and killed publishers and developers around the globe.

Dev costs on PS3/Xbox 360 probably. They focused on Wii/DS for their experimental shit and mostly ported stuff on 3DS.

Unironically has great gameplay and dungeon design.
Of course it benefits from being able to use Fire Emblem elements to justify stuff like everyone having constant physical weaknesses and the more limited but focused stat/skill growth systems.

So i heard and read a bit 'bout Mem aleph's battle over the years, but it just sounds a bit bizarre. How's you blokes already done it feel about it? So far boss battles in the game for me at least have been bizarre as all hell, in the sense that the first 3 sector bosses were complete pushovers, Asura killed all my party members but got Rage killed by solo Doppelganger and ourobourus needed a few retries before i got it just right.

The Atlus golden age that was the ps2 games came directly as a result of Atlus struggling. Atlus was experimenting in the hopes that something would be successful. Nocturne was megaten in a more modern system, DDS was megaten using a more standard jrp style of gameplay and plot structure, and Raidou was an attempt at an action megaten. Now that Persona exists there's no need to experiment anymore. Why experiment when a Persona spinoff is safe AND profitable at little cost?

Can someone explain to me why the Persona series isn't SMT? Beside popularity.

Spinoffs aren't just dead for SMT, but also for other franchises as well. I know Pokemon stopped making proper spinoffs after like, Gen 5? Gamefreak is all around lazy though, so that's a whole other story. There's nothing stopping Atlus from reviving Devil Summoner, or Raidou in the future though since those are pretty popular in Japan. As for Devil Survivor, it's looking kind of slim.

It's funny, because P1 had a massive amount of sales, and immediately after, P2 didn't do as well. I wish the games retained that same feel, but I guess it wasn't meant to be.

Not so far in SMT's case. Sure you can save anywhere, but there's still multiple difficulty settings, and the gameplay has objectively improved heavily in Apocalypse.

The plot of Final was definitely casualized, compared to what we're usually used to in a mainline title to appeal to a wider range of people. However, it backfired and was more so disliked by older fans of the series. I'm sure V will be back to form, but I guess you'd be right about popularity leading to worse developments. I feel like securing the cosmic egg should be more of "you can't trust other people or demons, the same tragedies will happen over and over again. Sure, if you're being overly pessimistic. You can't see the future, user. V will no doubt be a bigger success than its predecessor, and bring in a larger fandom to boot, but for all we know the future of the series could be absolutely fine. Who knows, though. Debating on what the future will hold is pointless at the given time.

There's the issue though, SMT will never be as popular as franchises like Pokemon. Even if SMTV is successful, it won't suddenly make the series less niche overnight. Friends. Chaos and neutral friends. Why doesn't SMT has any anime? There is anime for P3-5, P4 have 2 of them, and yet nothing from the mainline? Not even Apocalypse which has persona elements in it?

There's the anime based on Digital Devil Story. It's just not going to be relevant when Persona, has four movies and four TV anime.

Most anime adaptations are shit, though, so it's not really a surprise.

Which is better between redux and the original? Which do you prefer?

I don't know why people ask this. Redux has more content, and the new endings are arguably some of the best in the series alongside SMT II, and Devil Survivor 1.

I haven't played redux. I prefer the sprites of the original but I'd probably reccomend someone to play redux since it is more accessible and has more and supposedly better content and endings

Nah, just happy to see the series getting discussed, even if most of it is shitflinging between who the true fans are, till somebody calls for favourite demons.
