Dragons aren't reptiles. The physiology of your typical dragon, Skyrim's included, is much more similar to a mammal, just with scaly skin and a serpentine head+tail.
Also you're thinking too much about logic in a fantasy video game. Skyrim dragons shouldn't even be able to fly with their pathetic wingspans, doesn't stop them though

I always go for beast races because there's nearly always a plot point of the more human races persecuting/fearing them and it lets me enact gay self-insert redemption fantasies because I am a anagram of nigger.

Who ever has a smithing and melee bonus; usually orcs and humans as 2nd best (due to lack of penalty)

I usually play humans. More relatable and most fantasy races just boil down to a single defining trait anyway.
I like elder scrolls Elves though, even Orcs. Miss me with that beast shit.

Dwarves or catmen, usually. Dwarves are pretty solid all around, and catmen are pretty cool.
