Yea Forums is a bunch of gay weeb clowns and they would never pull off FEAR
what exactly made FEAR so good?
The Physics engine is great and the AI hold up to this day, the guns feel great too and the soundtrack is kino
I think it's overrated. It's great but Yea Forums now points to it as one of the greatest FPS games of all time and I just don't think it's that special. Max Payne did slowmo before FEAR did and that's pretty much the only thing that sets it apart from other shooters. They did the shootout effects pretty well, after a shootout you can tell there was a shootout there because of the dynamic elements, but that's really about it.
Physics, atmosphere, plot, pacing, weapons, gameplay, 1player campaign, no jetpacks or zoomer shit. They don't make'em like they used to...
REEEEEEEEEEEE
slow mo and I love blowing shit up and destroying the offices
Can I skip the first 2 games and play Fear 3? A few days ago I found the PS3 version in a store for pretty much nothing and I bought it.
Yes but it's fucking shit. Only the first game is any good.
I liked FEAR 2 to be honest. It was a step back in terms of gameplay but still not bad at all. I actually think the horror aspect and the special effects were better in 2. That entire elementary school sequence is absolute kino.
actual proper game design. from the concept, to the art direction, to the level design, to the engine itself, they all played towards each other's strengths. it all comes together as greater than the sum of its parts, and on their own merits its still a good game.
its clearly the main goal of the game developers was to make a game that 'feels' good to play that let you interact with the environment. that's why its still so good compared to modern games, where you're stuck in a tiny box that sacrificed interactivity for graphics
Kind of rip off Valkyrie Profile game, with sex mods like in Skyrim.
fear would still be a good game without the slowmo. the enemies are fun to fight and it feels great unloading a magazine into a dude and seeing him dance around like a john woo movie and then fall through a pane of glass with sparks and smoke everywhere. and you can roundhouse kick people and it feels like you are straight up leaping through the air and landing on a dude's chest in midair. they cartwheel away and you make a nice 'thump' when you land and its fucking awesome
compare that to overwatch where everything feels floaty or apex legends where everything is TOO BIG to try and make it seem 'epic' so everyone has to have the grappling hook from Just Cause except it's still call of duty. shit fucking sucks
Dead space 4
>fear would still be a good game without the slowmo
I never claimed otherwise, I just said it was the only thing that sets it apart from other FPS games. It would have been even more like HL2 if it didn't have slowmo. Like I said, I think it's a great game, but very overrated. Just because I think it's overrated doesn't mean I think it's bad.
fuck slowmo.
>what made fear so good
i got the demo of fear in like 2017 and could play the one corridor and one other room that i liked over and over, i probably got about 300 or more runs through each. Every day i would close it down and then think - what if i tap the glass then run to the side. what if i throw the bucket through the window. what if i place mines at both places they come out. can i kill them all with melee. each challenge or little scenario thing i came up with would work and feel cool and surprising and a rewarding adrenaline rush.
Just a month or so ago i though- why the fuck did aren't i playing it now? i got Extraction point demo to try to switch it up and uninstalled it same day, as soon as i found out it was made by different people which confirmed my confused feeling that the level design was relatively complete shit.
It illustrated to me that FEAR's elevated experience was due to careful crafting of each encounter to be a matched battle itself. (flanking obviously, and probably more aspects i don't explicitly know)
Just throwing you up against the enemies in a room like in extraction point, didn't cut it
>"weapons feel powerful"
>meanwhile it takes at least 4 stakes to the head to kill a normal grunt
i love the game but this always bothered me a bit
desu thw slo-mo almost detracts from the game
it's the most tense when you're playing without it
>it was the only thing that sets it apart from other FPS games
retard. other people hit it right that it creates a feel. in half-life 2 it is not fun to shoot
FLASHLIGHT
Fear 1 is best in series. Fear 2 is a 1 step forward 2 back thing, but its still enjoyable enough with enough to distinguish itself from all the Modern Warfare clones. the multiplayer was pretty fun too, especially 1 with everyone ninja kicking eachother.
3 was a clusterfuck. its the Dead Space 3 of FEAR except worse. Some of the concepts were kinda cool but it doesnt work in the execution
the movement/weapon control is clunky on its own, with the fact that you can't hold RMB to aim, and there was a delay between you clicking and your weapon firing. F.E.A.R. without slowmo wouldn't hold up as far as environments go, FEAR's environments were a little bland, it could have done with a little more variety, the warehouse/office/warehouse/office setup is comfy, but could have done with some variety. more street level stuff, some different buildings with more stuff going on.
It would be really really cool to play through Condemned but with F.E.A.R.'s slowmo, weapons and enemies. Condemned's environments and level design were so much better than FEARs
FEAR 2 has that pretty kino mech level, so it’s at least worth a play through
The shooting in FEAR isn't nearly as fun as the shooting in Painkiller, Doom, Wolfenstein TNO, Singularity, Syndicate, Bulletstorm, even RAGE 2. So again, it's an overrated game because it's beat by many games in this one category where it's supposed to be the best. Retar.d
the mechanic is that if they aren't looking / don't know you're there, it takes 1. even from the pistol. i dunno, they decided to have that as something interesting at the expense that it takes two or so in normal combat. hardly a big prob if you imagine they have a helmet. it's one from the shot gun
Hp and armor-based games always do that. Your hp/armor box in the corner? enemies have that too. Tougher guys just get more armor
i said shooting but i meant killing i guess. *Killing* in fear is really fun.
If you factor in FEAR 1s dlc (extraction point anyway) you get a lot more urban ops and unnaground ops. Rolling hard in church and a subway terminal was great
HE'S TOO FAST
SHUT YOUR FUCKING MOUTH
SHIT
flashlights
it'll be some shovelware waifu simulator like doki doki watever-the-fuck oki or some shit
