Make the level design be anything but bunch of hallways and towers, and have the enemy difficulty actually match your ability to break the game so easily.

I would add more backtracking to filter the cancer cucks out, thank you very much.
Combat is good as is IMO i wouldn't alter it. id add more enemies from the mario universe, extend the pit of trials, add classes with special bonuses that mario can take on, add more costumes for mario, add a special extra hard difficulty and new game + add more worlds that mario can travel too with more characters from the mario universe and even crossover characters from pokemon and zelda.

Nah, it takes too much time with the curtains. IIRC it's like 15 seconds of waiting per battle, and throughout the game it really adds up.
Emulators exist
i like the curtains, they add charm. i don't mind waiting between battles and battles are easy enough to avoid and run away from if you don't want to fight.
Remove General White
Add a Hard Mode or something too. I fucking love PM and TTYD, but they're stupidly easy (as well as easy to abuse)
Double pain is the hard mode. Though you don't get it until after chapter 1.

I forget. Do they even give hints as to where he is, or were you supposed to go seek him randomly?
you're supposed to go to a set of pre-determined locations before he finally appears at the very location you left before you started looking. even if you know where he is you can't just skip and go to him immiedately.

IIRC you get some vague hint for the first step, then it's just following map directions from place to place
It literally makes you revisit almost every area you've been to before only for you to return to the area you started. A little less tedious if you use the blue pipes under Rogueport, and mildly amusing at first, but overall just a horribly annoying quest that you can't cut corners with or skip/avoid

When they finally give this an HD remaster I want them to redo the Glitz Pit second round with Prince Mush as the Champ

Almost all backtracking is now instantly negated by being able to go at turbo-titties speed across the map.
Why you would ever remove such a useful feature from your sequel is beyond me.
I guess since Mario moves faster naturally they didn't bother
