PS1 was a good console. PS2 was superior since it is backward compatable with PS1 games and can also use PS1 memory cards and PS1 controllers.

I'd say all the 5th gen consoles are on the same level in some way since they all have games that hold up, with N64 being the least interesting of the bunch but still worth buying one for its 25 good games since emulating it is just bleh.

It was an important generation but also extremely experimental which lead to lots of wack shit.

The mindset at the time was also pretty garbage. Both consumers and devs decided that everything 2D is outdated so they demanded 3D shit even though many franchises were absolutely not suitable for that.
It took over ten years for 2D games to partially recover.
