Rune Factory 4

Rune Factory 3

i just want a farming sim

Grand Bazaar.

A new beginning (The only Harvest Moon called Harvest Moon on the 3DS, long story, name was 'stolen') is good if you like to grind and chill. Story of Seasons (Harvest Moon's new name) Trio of Towns and DS (get the patched / Euro version) can be fun too. Grand Bazaar is like the bottom pit of the series quality wise, skip it.

if you specifically want the farm then you've already picked the best one on the ds, but once you beat that and you get a feel for the mines youll come around to rune factory. Dont sleep on rune factory

Put FoMT in the cartridge slot of your ds

I've heard that one is a glitchy buggy mess

if your 3ds is hacked get mineral town for GBA. HMDS is okay but is super glitchy IIRC.

I played the shit out of that on the advance loved it

thankyou will give this a go

Wait how was the name stolen?

Harvest moon ds is honestly the best of the series, I wonder why these types of games only got a resurgence in popularity when stardew came out, when stardew looks like shit and lacks the charm of earlier harvest moon entries

Because the name belongs to the company that made the english translations, a different company does them now

I liked Sunshine Islands a lot more than that.

The japanese games that used to be called Harvest Moon are now going under Story of Seasons, while a western company that used to bring HM to the west is making new games under the Harvest Moon name

I mean, that's probably exactly why. Stardew isnt horrible, though, I'd say it scratches the itch but doesnt do anything to get rid of the rash.

I just hope either something from the indie community or rune factory 5 can give a proper game charm and all.

The best on the 3ds/Ds would be Story of Season : Trio of Towns I'd say.

Itll come some day, I feel the renaissance is around the corner. Too many people are getting fed up with suits influencing game development.

I've also been looking for a Harvest Moon game to play lately but I've tried Trio of Towns and Sunshine Islands and they just seem so primitive compared to Rune Factory and even Stardew Valley.

Yep, just gotta play the waiting game.

Unless you're particularly talented in game development, that is. What are would make an ideal HM like game for you?

Full farm customization with tons of shit you can build, both functional and decorative

I WANT MY FUCKING RIVAL MARRIAGES BACK REEEEEEEEEEE

What do you want?
Those games are directly influenced by Harvest Moon for the DS, and are really mobile games.
Rune Factory had that 'Rune Factory' features going for it, and Stardew Valley isn't made for the DS/3DS, not to mention it's made way after any of the games you mentioned.
Obviously none of those games will be as complex as those other 2.

I like Harvest Moon DS mechanically but I hate how the game would break the fourth wall and wouldn't take itself seriously, it just took me out of the game.

No story, or character dialog? Just a farming simulator?

how far have you gone in 3oT? that game's late game is incredibly complex and involved. The multiplayer trading scene is still surprisingly active too

Likable characters, comfy town, good farming customization, and good combat
well, its basically rune factory with Ys's combat
hopefully RF5 with scratch that itch, or i'll just dev 1 myself. have been teaching myself coding, and 've drawn quite a bit of asset alr

A new beginning

Art style is one of the most important things to me, ties the whole thing together.
Solid dateable characters is a must.
An interesting town/setting
SmallerGoals like the harvest sprites in DS is a nice thing but a game can be good without them.
Having a large amount of tasks is good, I love farming but having ability to fish/mine/forage adds more to each day.
One thing I don't like in these types of games is overarching timed events, like if you don't do x in first year you won't get the good ending or something. I think harvest moon has done this a couple of times but it really just ruins the laid back country farmer vibe I get.

If you do start development post it somewhere here so we can throw money at you

No combat.
Lots of variety of crops, fruits, recipes, animals, so on.
Charming villagers.
Little collectibles like the fishes in Harvest Moon GBC.
Lots of details and charm like the TV having programs of their own.
Lots of upgradable things.

talking about artstyle, the upcoming doraemon x SoS looks stunning
so simple, yet so soulful

Harvest Moon DS Cute

The last couple of story of seasons games have looked like shit, so seeing the trailer for the doraemon crossover blew my mind. Finally they made a game that looks comfy again. I don't really know anything about doraemon but this game may be worth getting. If we get the game in the west that is

HM: Sunshine Islands. Nice sense of progression, as the town expands as you do better on the farm. When the town expands, it introduces new people. The townsfolk are nice, and the selection of waifus is nice too. Solid HM mechanics. The gameplay will feel familiar, but also just new enough to keep you interested, and well balanced so the grind feels great.

Do not confuse it with Islands of Happiness. They looks similar.

>western release
well, yes, we do have one
youtube.com/watch?v=v0wqz3s4V80
they use the western localized names tho, which is really jarring for me
its the blessing of Marvelous's Brownie studio, who gave use fantasy life. Im so glad Marvelous just snagged Yoshimoto and his Hakama team and put the SoS ip to good uses, while Yoshimoto himself can put all his work into SoS switch and RF5

Is famtasy life worth dusting off my 3ds? looked interesting but never picked it up.

its really fun, but its more along the line of animal crossing?
you basically do what every you want, change jobs, etc. its a comfy game, but if you are not really into the genre, it can get boring fast
well, if your 3ds has cfw, just give it a try, i guess
