I feel empty after finishing Octo Expansion. I wish I could play it again. Not just because of the story or anything either, I loved the atmosphere, all of the challenges were pretty fun and the sense of progression of going through all the stations was really satisfying. And of course, that music. I could just hang around the train and do the challenges again but it's not the same. I hope there's either some last hurrah for more single player content or that Splatoon 3's campaign takes notes from Octo Expansion and hits it out of the park. What a fine piece of video game entertainment.

My thoughts are like this: last year they announced the end of support in content updates. However a couple of months ago they held demos to attract people to a game they were ending support for, then proceeded to release new content. The combination of those two things as well as it taking place when the championships are right around the corner makes me think they've got something to keep new players interested or specifically wanted to draw more attention to the game for it.
Of course you can take all that with a grain of salt. I'm just connecting dots that may not have any relation to another.

We can't really use that as a metric, Splatoon 2 was essentially just Splatoon 1 with minor changes to get a game out quickly as they tried to move the Wii U's library to the console they wanted to sell. Splatoon 3 will come out in an environment where Splatoon 2 is already on a popular console and there is no need to rush the brand out onto a new system.
