i mean, i have like 1200 hours in it, but the fact is, it's absurdly grindy and in terms of sci-fi, really, really fucking weird.
i don't think there's a single thing i can say i like about it without qualifying it with some kind of caveat
for example, i love the story, but the lore is given to you in a really shitty way (through codex entries), the main story basically doesn't exist until around mastery rank 6, and there are somewhere around four actual story quests with any substance, none of which you can even really touch until you get to like 50 hours of gameplay
it's free, so i'd say you should try it for yourself

I don't mind grinding, I grew up playing korean MMOs so I'm more averse to playing story heavy games though stuff like FF14 is barely stomachable because of its quality

Only melee or melee only? Because there are plenty of guns and frames that are quite viable, and melee only is also viable with certain builds and a few key mods.
I'm partial to Valkyr with an Eternal War build for attack speed and armor, but a well built melee weapon doesn't even need a special frame.

Yea, I meant melee only, though I wouldn't mind using the occasional shotgun or something, I'm just really bad at shooters and would probably play the game with a gamepad even on PC

I played melee-only for several years back when I was in high school and basically only had Valkyr and a couple other trash frames, but at really high levels, guns edge out melee just a bit. I'd recommend to grab a Galatine and/or a Jat Kittag as quick as you can, the starter melee is doodoo.
As for frames, it depends on what you want, but for quick n easy recommendations:
>excal as your starter
>saryn clears small rooms packed with enemies
>mesa clears huge open spaces
>volt is a good general-use caster but is hard to play without a lot of mods
>rhino is a really excellent tank frame that you can get really early on
>valkyr is great for survivability + single target damage, especially if you enjoy melee
As for guns, go to Venus and try to grind out a Kitgun (specifically Catchmoon) as quickly as possible, because kitguns are ridiculously OP. Then you can basically do whatever you want, just be aware that a lot of the guns are kind of shit.

Funny enough they just started a new mod gimmick of Amalgam mods. Mods that generally have a reduced effect of another mod, but add another effect for another weapon or aspect not directly related to the thing being modified.
Like this Ripkas (Grineer chainsaw knuckles) mod that gives it critical chance and increases shotgun reload speed.
