Wow okay, the third playthrough is actually kino. You were right Yea Forums.
I'm now going to play Ys Seven. Which difficulty do you recommended if I played all the previous games on normal? I've seen someone say Ys Seven is easier, so would Hard be a better choice here?
Ys Seven is pretty tough if you don't get used to Flash Guarding. If you git gud at it then the higher difficulties are manageable.
Charles Foster
should I do normal again then?
Xavier Rivera
PLAY OATH INSTEAD 7 IS SHIT
Ryder Lee
I beat Oath already of course, user.
I beat I & II, Ark, Oath and Origin
Jacob Hall
Did not use Flash Guard at all during my first playthrough, which was on Hard. The most I wiped to a boss was maybe three times, besides the one you fight with Adol solo. Also, fair warning about the final boss, without spoilers (except I use a spoiler tag if you don't want a hint) level up and equip all of your characters, you will need them.
Nathan Cook
Normal is fine, Seven is a pretty long game that really feels like a mix of JRPG and Zelda, you got multiple big dungeons, different biomes to explore and plenty of characters to play as. Should be a fun ride.
Brandon Moore
>that really feels like a mix of JRPG and Zelda, you got multiple big dungeons, different biomes to explore and plenty of characters to play as sounds really cool actually
Mason Jenkins
wellp you're done then everything ahead is party-based shit
Justin Carter
>third playthrough is actually kino Based Toal showing the light. Best protag in Ys Origin.
>wellp you're done then He could always go back to beat the good titles on Nightmare, though. Or play the glory that is Ys V! Really, though, the party based games aren't even terrible by themselves. Except that the appeal of the series is throwing youself at the bosses over and over again to conquer them. But by playing on Normal, user has only scratched the surface of that anyway.
Julian Smith
I still don't know if some Ys II areas actually references Toal or his name was a mistranslation in Origin.
Robert Hughes
No, that's probably deliberate. Think of Kishgal and the city of the same name in VI.
Ayden Mitchell
Play Dawn of Ys before playing 7, or before playing Celceta so you can compare the differences in the storyline.
Well, except, Origin came after Ys II. So if those ruins of Toal (or whatever the name was) weren't named like that because of Origin, in case that name existed in the original Ys II. But rather they retroactively made it so that this area is named after Toal Fact.
Austin Butler
Glad you stuck it out to play Toal's route user from earlier.
It's quite a ride compared to the other 2 for sure.
Jeremiah Stewart
I played oath & origin on hard and seven & celceta on whatever the hardest difficulty is called. What should I pick for Ark and Xanadu Next?
Oliver Turner
>no Mask of the Sun
Isaac Taylor
What's the point of playing on anything other than Nightmare? On the easier difficulties most of the games are shitty masher hack and slashes. Unless it's Nephtism, fuck that game CRITICAL
Daniel Rogers
hard for Ark. Nightmare is just unfun desu.
Robert Watson
>What should I pick for Ark Catastrophe mode on Hard, or normal mode on Nightmare.
Bentley Gutierrez
Napishtim*, I'll stop phone posting now
John Moore
All Ys games are played on Nightmare, other than that you're a pussy
Thomas Myers
Mask of the Sun is completely inferior to Dawn of Ys. The music, the graphics, the story, and even the gameplay because you can't move diagonally. Mask of the Sun is not worth playing unless you're a super turbo autist that wants to lord it over everyone that they've played every version of every Ys game, only contrarians would disagree.
Justin Morales
Nightmare isn;t perfect because it makes you level more slowly which leads to filler grinding episodes that detract from the experience
Brody Moore
>playing on Ys I on Nighmare If you have autism maybe.
Isaac Kelly
What's wrong, Adventurer? Running out of breath while circling the room for half an hour, having window of opportunity to attack?
I like challenging games, but if the game has multiple difficulty settings, I usually go with either normal or hard, because usually harder difficulties just make bosses and enemies in general have too much hp for my liking. I played boss rush in Origin on Nightmare, so I know bosses get new moves, but those were too much for me.
Landon Cooper
>the third playthrough is actually kino Clawchads rise up
Being underleveled is hardly ever a problem, at most you might have to grind a single level around the point right before a boss, unless you really rushed through it then at that point enemies should still give you so much xp it won't take long. Ark is the only game I can think of where you have to grind like a fucking bitch and it's really because of those stupid crits that can easily one shot you.
Nicholas Barnes
I didn't know enemies can crit you. I don't think it ever happened to me on normal.
Chase Reed
Hard is the best difficulty to start with. Nightmare is for future playthroughs.
Joshua Parker
Yeah, I beat the games on normal, but played boss rush both on hard and nightmare, and imo hard was the most enjoyable difficulty
Levi Gutierrez
Will Falcom ever revisit the Esteria setting in future Ys? Will Feena and Reah ever wake up again?
I jumped into Felghana as my first game on Nightmare and I'm sure every boss took me like an hour or more to kill in my first play through, can't even remember how long it took me to beat Chester but goddamn once I beat him, I've never felt a bigger sense of accomplishment from any other game ever
Isaiah Gray
>Esteria The next game literally takes place in the northern part of Esteria.
Wasn't it somewhere in Gallia "north of Esteria", i.e. still on the Eresian continent? Like on that peninsula north of Eresia.
Chase Lewis
>two year gap between Dana and Ark How old is Adol in IX?
Adam Evans
Somewhere around there, yeah. IX is said to take place in a gothic Victorian-styled prison city owned by the Romun Empire which is currently hunting down Adol because they think he sunk the Romun fleet way back in VI, a year before this game. 24, he's 23 in Ark.
Ryan Kelly
Why did they get to Felghana by boat in the intro?
Ayden Lee
this user gets it. I am proud that I started my Ys games on Nightmare, though I can't get back into Oath on Inferno. seems like a thing that I'd do if I really really want to replay it.
William Torres
>can't even remember how long it took me to beat Chester but goddamn once I beat him, I've never felt a bigger sense of accomplishment from any other game ever That was probably the most exhilarating fight for me in the series. I think Kishgal came pretty close. Better fight and boss theme than Galbalan IMO. youtube.com/watch?v=6xL3qBb2RdA Have only beat him on Hard so far, though. Felghana was the first entry I played on something higher than Normal. Some of the bosses in Ys VIII actually took me more attempts (Inferno/absolutely zero healing/no status remedies) but I play that game like a potato. Flash guard teaches bad habits. We don't know where they actually came from when they arrived there. There's a one-year gap between Celceta and Felghana.
Landon Cook
holy shit how old is he in Seven?
Zachary Wilson
Still 23, Seven takes place just a few months after Ark.
Kevin Morgan
I'd argue that, but even playing the Famicom version of 1 and the various versions of 3 is more worth it.
Michael Cruz
Wasn't it half a year? I think Geis mentions it.
Jayden Brown
HOW DO I BEAT THE FUCKING FURNACE DEMON HE'S NOT LOSING ANY FUCKING HEALTH
Easton Turner
Six months fighting off various monsters and gods is practically a few months to Chadol, anyways.
Samuel Martin
The what now? Darm? It's a shell game, there are three parts to hit and only one of them is real if I remember clearly.
Benjamin Clark
Geladly? Have you tried attacking his body parts yet?
Isaiah Scott
The one whose hands get cut off if you hit them enough and you must damage his head The problem is that he barely loses health each time I hit him and it gets tedious having to do the process constantly
Jeremiah James
You have been upgrading your weapons with Cleria ore like a good warrior of Ys, right? Other than that, it's a mere battle of attrition, a matter of how fast you can get to his head and whack in as many hits as possible. You could always mitigate how long it takes by grinding a level or two, but remember that level-ups are very powerful in this series.
If nothing else works then grinding is the way to go, after all it did help me in Oath go through some bosses
Aaron Bailey
He should lose about 1/4th of his life everytime.
Michael Allen
How long til we play as old man Adol? I wanna play as a buff 40-year old bearded Adol as he wrecks monsters and beasts left and right. I guess I'll have to wait until the year 2035 when Falcom releases Ys XX.
I once tested to see what would happen if you went max level and I became fucking invincible
Henry Walker
Are Ys games presented at E3? I found out about the series from Yea Forums, and I don’t think I’d seen it anywhere before.
Ian Long
What happens if you level up movement speed or attack range in Ys Origin? Why are those 500k?
Nathan Hughes
Nah, it's a low-budget series. Not the type of stuff you'd see at E3, I think.
William Carter
Ys hardly even gets attention from mainstage TGS, let alone E3.
Leo Bailey
I think movement speed just makes you a little bit faster which might be useful on nightmare, I don't even remember how much of a boost attack range is but it's probably shit.
