Since a really nice thread about large scale architecture in games was just deleted, I just want to let it be known that it was one of the few threads on Yea Forums where discussion was consistently civil and deep, and it was actually on topic (discussing examples in games, why the inclusion of massive scales in game worlds is or isn't feasible). I can understand why maybe it might bear a resemblance to a lot of the copy/pasted meme threads, but at least take the time to open the thread before deleting it, hey? I mean seriously, aren't there worse offenders on the front page at any time?

It's also worth noting that there were a few bait posts in that thread, which were shut own and didn't receive further replies. Having a discussion topic that's actually so engaging that people don't care to reply to bait seems like something worth preserving on this board.

If the next Halo takes place entirely on and between the Halo itself and a huge UNSC ship and a huge Covenant ship and those environments are all actual locations running on a server it would be fricken awesome. Plop into the world via Spartan Cryo decantation, helldrop down to the Halo, conquer and claim the Halo Array by the square mile, go down into the Halo and come back up in other locations, conquer Covenant drop zones and tractor beam up to the shop and Finish Teh Fight, see battles taking place all around the in-real-time online Halo, that's wat.

I don't like speaking exactly right because I don't like controlling other people with buzzwords and jargon. I come from a very populous very actually diverse city with lots of different ways of doing things. I remember being absolutely blown away by the Sunspire in the original Unreal. That slow descent on the narrow winding bridge down into the massive volcano, then entering the big ol spire itself without a load screen and realizing it was all one seamless level. Still find it awe-inspiring all these years later despite modern games dwarfing it.
