April 10th 2019 rolls around, and he tweets out "Today I'll mostly be singing everything is awesome". When asked why, he says "that'd be telling" and likes a tweet saying "I guess we'll find out sooner or later".
Since then, he has stopped responding to people asking him in Banjo is in or if he is working on Banjo music for Smash.

There is no reason to ask him or bring him on. Sakurai has his own music team that he has arrange remixes - with Joker and with Smash 4's DLC, he had composers that worked on the base game arrange remixes, rather than bringing back the original series composers. The only exception that I can think of is Yoko Shimomura remixing Street Fighter II songs, but that was because she's already part of Smash 4's music team. Kirkhope isn't.

Why do people think that Erdrick can't be brave because it's "too obvious" because of Jack, while completely ignoring how similar Pakku was to Pakkun Flower?
Pakkun was Pakkun Flower without a doubt, Jack left some doubt but pointed heavily to Joker regardless, Brave is legitimately sticky because it could refer to any number of characters and not necessarily Erdrick. A commonly-cited alternative is a Bravely Default character, for example.
People saying whether it is or isn't "obvious" are stupid and trying to cover up their speculation with immediate discrediting of any answer (or just avoid saying "there's no real way of knowing"), but he does have a point that Brave points to Erdrick as much as it points to anyone else titled or considered "brave".

First of all, it was Pakku, not Pakkun. Secondly, if Pakkun Flower had still not been revealed yet, how many would have guessed that was the character? Pakku is the onomatopoeia for chomping, so it could have been any biting related character. If anything it'd be them hiring him at MS to do something Banjo Kazooie related which in itself could mean that Banjo is getting attention in some way by MS and in turn possibly mean he's getting into Smash. The way I see it, Elthunder is completely different from PK thunder, which is completely different than Pikachu's thunder. These are all lightining attacks from RPGs but they are all very different mechanically. It wouldn't be hard to make Erdrick different.

Whether you can cobble a moveset for them or not isn't the question, you can conceivably do that for any character under the sun, the thing with it is how to make it stand out compared to the rest of the roster since a character that's in sheerly for the novelty of having that character in leads to a boring character to play as. Looking strictly at Steve's combat ability it's a bow, sword, farming tools if you're desperate, and at a stretch the use of TNT blocks, all of which is covered by Link, for example. Past that it becomes how to convey "exploration at your own pace" and cavern/dungeon navigation in the form of a fighting game character, since Steve is supposed to behave as though he's in his own game.
Plus the focus on game-accuracy would lend to Steve walking about like a stuffed scarecrow, he'd be pretty aesthetically ugly next to all the other characters and a redesign at all or reimagining of how he moves would go out of Minecraft's artstyle. youtube.com/watch?v=5RZdPMvPGv8

Honestly I love both Banjo-Kazooie and Crash. They're so English and American, respectively. Banjo-Kazooie has a bit of an attitude of slight rudeness that comes off as playful and mildly cheeky, but for the most part they're just goofy. Crash has a lot more of a hard edge, he's more crazy and exaggerated, which is also a lot of fun. But he also get to be really goofy. They're both very 90's from very different cultures and that's a lot of fun.
