There's generally a consensus that 2 > 3 > 1 > 4 > 5.

They really made a phenomenal world in SO2 and the gameplay was solid. SO3 had some great mechanics, but the end of the story goes off a cliff. SO1 could be just as good as SO2, but it just doesn't have enough content. SO4 was the worst until they somehow outdid themselves by making SO5.

Alternate Earth is inexcusable though, if that entire part of the game just wasn't there or if, for example, it resembled the same fucking thing that Fayt went through in SO3, it would be a lot better. Alternate Earth into Roak is what made me drop the game for a couple of months.

It's a prequel to 2 of sorts, since Claude's father is a playable character in there, but it's nothing special really, standard SO/JRPG fare.
The remake also uses SO2's engine and visual style.

The only thing I liked in the remake is English VA for Ilya was ace. She did a really good job and the PA where she tells some kid a story was great. Other than that, I have SO1 in a reproduction cart in my Super famicom hardware.

I appreciate the series isn't dead (like BoF), but there's only so many times I can replay the same game, and it's not even the best one. Can't the put this effort into actually just making an SO game that doesn't fucking suck?

The original Star Ocean on the SNES was great for its time. I also like that it has a dash button unlike the PSP game. You can run across one side of the map to the other really quickly while in the PSP version it just opts for a generic world map with random encounters.

I tried playing 2 some time ago, but it aged like milk.

The only BoF games I played were 3, 4 and 5. BoF 3 is also one of my fav RPGs of all time.

Today, BoF DQ and X-2 (to be precise, Last Mission) are main reasons why I play and love roguelike / roguelite games.

In japan they released an enhanced psp port of 2 for Vita, PS3, and PS4 to celebrate SO5 release. For some reason they left the rest of the world in the cuck shed.

Even if it was just a remaster, I hope the character portraits get swapped for sonething more like the art released so far. SO1 and 2 remakes have some of the dullest, most uninspired cookie-cutter anime art I've ever seen.
