Do gaming journalists really deserve all of the hate that they recieve, Yea Forums?

I'm still amazed Polygon is in business since they're one of the worst cases of it, and publishers seem to take them seriously for some fucking reason, as if they represent the majority.

Maybe. Depends. I guess the entry threshold is so absurdely low these days, you end up having lots of people doing this without knowing a single toss about that matter. At least back in the 80s and 90s, you had to be hired by a magazine that was usually run or managed by enthusiasts. Remote work wasn't as prevalent, so you still had editorial / staff meetings that would go over the shit you wrote or proposed. With the expansion of vidya into the masses, so did those writing about it, so the number of crappy one's increased super-proportionally..

Yes, Gaming "journalism" involves blogging about videogames and copying news stories from reddit, it's about as close to journalism as a tricycle is to a car. Anyone who unironically refers to themselves as a "games journalist" deserves to be ridiculed for their complete lack of self-awareness.

Literally yes. They have no integrity and don't do the job of an honest journalist. They take bribes in the form of golden handshakes or invites to insider events and other benefits in exchange for higher and falsified reviews.

There are a small handful of journalists that are honest and have correct intentions. The majority are scummy lapdogs for game companies masquerading as journalists to get the perks.

What's the problem here? Uncharted 4 ain't that good? Haven't played it since I don't have drmbox4.
