What video games are the best for making friends and meeting new people?
wow classic
ffxiv
vr chat
vr games
vr is expensive as fuck though
aren't those 99% preexisting groups?
it's called going outside user
Once you hit endgame I'll play FFXIV with you! I'll do dungeons and stuff with you too but leveling is an almost solo experience.
Going to local tournaments or arcades is the best way to make real friends instead of internet ones
nobody here gives a fuck about games so i'd have nothing to talk to people about
those aren't a thing here
doesn't FFXIV have really bad gameplay though?
Fighting games
From what I've been told it plays like a faster WoW. People generally consider the endgame more difficult as well, but I'm going entirely off the word of others, I've never played WoW in any meaningful capacity.
>tfw you get a random friend request
Not that user, but how big of a time commitment does XIV take?
If you enjoy the story and read all the quest text, you can likely get caught up to the current expansion within your month of play time if you play a few hours every night. There's one particularly bad string of quests that are particularly tedious that lots of people quit at however after the base game's story wraps up. Once you're past that, the plot gets significantly better and it's very engaging. If you're playing casually, probably quite a bit longer.

Not him but I cant see myself putting up with that unless combat and character progression are good. And MMOs are notoriously bad in those categories.
unironically the best people I've met was in a gacha clan chat
we just shitpost and discuss fetishes while grinding mats to unlock .jpgs of waifus
I see, thanks for the detailed answer. Have you met fun people while playing?
comfy community servers on cs source
Is this the new animegirlsniffinghair OP?
slower wow, more difficult maybe
None, Internet “friends” are always a meme until you actually meet them in-person.
you couldn't play me to play gacha shit
i don't care. that's my only option.
The arcades
I'm a bit quiet and keep to myself so my interactions are mainly with people I raid with. They've all been rather nice Peele aside from a few. I'm in a guild with my friend I met from a non-FFXIV related general on /vg/ and he's got a bunch of his friends playing too and they're all also rather nice.
Again, I'm just working off what I'm told from people that have played both.
I got you. Sounds like fun. I'd be going in solo at first, so I wonder how it is trying to meet new people.
If you roll on my server you'd have a guild full of people to chat with as you level if you please. I haven't been on for about two weeks but when I was on last it was rather active.
i don't have any in my area.
How big's the paywall? Don't you need to shill out like 200 bucks for expansions along with a subscription?
I appreciate it. I'll be pretty busy for a while and will put some more thought into the idea of starting.
You can try a trial of the base game for free up to level 35 or so, no sub fee required during this time. After that, there's a complete edition containing all currently released expansions for about $40 I believe. The new expansion releasing in mid June is $40.
I doubt we'll run into each other again in that case, but keep it in mind. As long as you avoid the /vg/ crowd and the ERP crowd, everyone's pretty nice.
So it's $80 then? Is there no subscription or what? Also, what's wrong with the /vg/ crowd?
All right, thanks for the advice.
Subscription is $13 a month for basic one character access, but you can do everything on one character. Buying the complete edition also gives you a month free, new expansions may or may not, I don't really remember. It's been two years since the last one launched. The /vg/ crowd is a mix of the ERP crowd I previously mentioned and they've got a habit of trying to start drama and cliques. Go take a look at /xivg/ on /vg/ if you want a taste.
No problem user!
That's pretty steep for my 2nd world wallet honestly. Guess I'll most likely have to stick with f2p stuff.
you can play vrchat on desktop. it is absolutely the best game for making friends that I've played. people in other games are communicating less and less every year. while for the most part people in vrchat are there to communicate so it's super easy to make buddies.
>vrchat without vr
how does that work? what do people even talk about there? since it's not an actual game and more a virtual chatroom
That is regrettable but you could still always check out the free trial if you're interested. I'd recommend not getting it on Steam though. They basically never have sales, miss out on freebies like the previous expansion going free and I believe you can't log in if Steam is down. Various downsides to that version.
it's the same game when you're not in vr except you can't move your arms unless it's too grab something. there actually are games you can play with other people. you can essentially talk about anything, what I like to do is ask people what they did today and just build up a conversation from there.
that just sounds like an awful time for someone like me with 0 social skills.
I didn't really have social skills before either. if you're looking to make friends and talk you're going to need to start somewhere though. you can also listen in on other people's conversations and drop what you want to say if you're interested in it. it's generally not seen as rude in public worlds to just join someone else's convo unlike real life.
Alright, thanks. I'll keep that in mind if I give it a shot.
sorry user but that just sounds like an absolute nightmare to me.
osrs. seek out autistic clan chats
people still play that?
absolutely, its has more active players than in 2009
Any game with an active community of any size if you aren't an insufferable weirdo.
but my game of choice barely has 50 players...
Monster Hunter is fun, I really like world.
We haven’t played it in years, but I met a lot of my current friends from League of Legends. Maybe look for games like that, since idk how active League is anymore.
but then what exactly do you want to do with making new friends and meeting new people if it isn't talking with them. just friends and people to play Vidya together with?
NOT these
people in lol are far from talkative and friendly in my experience
i'm not sure what you're asking. i want to meet people in games because that automatically gives us something in common to talk about.
If those 50 are active it's all you need.
so you just want to talk about the video game you're playing with other people? I'd agree with other anons then MMOs or gacha games might be your best bet. since you don't want to play gacha and can't afford a sub, may I recommend Guild Wars 2 which is f2p or Elder Scrolls Online which is b2p
they aren't. not even 10 are
pretty much, yeah. don't you still need to pay for expansions in eso and gw2?
