FUCK

Fucking this.
When's the Alan Wake/Max Payne crossover as well?
Juan Diaz
it was a a glorified level expansion meant to rap up the story they did my nigga alan dirty smdh
Lucas Gray
Christopher Ramirez
Are they still making a TV show?
Justin Bell
if Quantum Break is anything to go off of let's hope not
Hudson Reyes
>Alan Wake 2 when?
Probably never. I thought it was just Microsoft not letting Remedy do a sequel, but apparently their next game is under a different publisher and it's still not Alan Wake 2.
>Why did [Alan Wake's American Nightmare] feel so unfinished?
Because it was literally pieced together from scraps of an abandoned Alan Wake 2 prototype.
Liam Davis
never seen this before thanks user
Christopher Bennett
Hope it happens someday but it's unlikely. How would they even continue from the ending of AW? There were some interesting teasers in Quantum Break.
Also their lead guys (Sam Lake?) obviously want to make TV shows. Alan Wake had the perfect balance between feeling like a tv miniseries and a game, Quantum Break went way too far.
Henry Murphy
why the fuck does every competent game director want to do TV shows instead?
Anthony Collins
Hopefully never.
Jaxon Collins
big cringe
Aiden Campbell
>How would they even continue from the ending of AW?
I don't see what would be so hard about it.
At the end of the original game, Alan Wake is stuck in the dark place, but he had been there before and had written himself out of it. At the end of the DLC, it's heavily implied that he is about to write himself out of it again. Depending on how you interpret American Nightmare, and depending on whether it's canon, he might already have escaped at the end of that. So the sequel would probably start with Alan Wake having escaped the dark place, but the dark presence would still exist, so he would fight it again or whatever. I obviously couldn't predict what they would do to make it original, but it's not like they wrote themselves into a corner and can't continue the story.

you're cringe and bad also gay

I still remember them showing off that tech demo, flying around the large open area and spawning a tornado to show off the physics and all.
Fucking shame how it all ended up.
Noah Bennett
Recognition. Even if you make a big hit game, it's still just a game, and you won't get any real respect for it.
Owen Jenkins
You can still fly around a large open area by enabling free camera mode on the PC version. Every location in the game is on a single map. The only problem is that you can't walk everywhere; each episode locks you into one or more small areas despite the entire map existing.
Colton Young
I want a combination of Deadly Premonition and Alan Wake. Open world detective mystery with the competency of Remedy.
Hudson Murphy
Mirrors are more fun that television.
Jack Harris
Here's a screenshot of the cabin, taken during the scene where you're supposed to be posing for a picture on the ferry. I just had to enable free camera mode and fly past a couple of mountains to get from the bay to the lake.
Noah Young
They will never create more than mediocre cinema. Games are a craft on their own, but these twats (David Cage, Kojima) want to make 2/5 straight-to-dvd quality flicks instead.
Levi Young
For he did not know. That beyond the lake he called home. Lies a deeper darker ocean green. Where waves are both wilder and more serene. To its ports I've been. To its ports I've been. Do you understand?
Andrew Butler
Here's a screenshot of the hedge maze at the lodge, which overlooks the lake, taken during the same introductory ferry scene.
If I remember correctly, the lodge itself is not fully rendered if you fly to it during this part of the game.
Jaxon Clark
so thats why the game ran like shit in my pc back then.
this is very impressive for a 2010 game although
Jacob Perry
BANE?
Christian Hall
I'm sure the game is only rendering exactly what it needs to render at any given moment, so it's unclear how much this affects performance. Even if it runs fine on your machine while you're playing normally, your frame rate might tank when you start flying around at high altitudes in free camera mode, so it's not as if the game has the entire map in memory while you play.
It is pretty fuckin' neato, though.
Daniel Howard
It ran pretty good on the 360 so it's probably just your comp.
Brayden Thompson
Alan Wake was probably the best fusion of survival horror and action I've seen
>Simple gameplay revolves around balancing two relatively scarce resources (bullets and batteries), forcing you to use the environment to get kills
>Game throws hundreds of enemies at you at once
>AI makes attempts to ambush you off screen
>Character movement and dodge mechanics are fluid enough to allow this to work whilst still feeling tense
>Boss fights are actually fun
>Quiet breather day levels between the tense night ones, where unexpected shit happens
Alan Wake 2 WHEN WHEN WHEN
Charles Stewart
Hopefully Remedy will stop trying to make moviegames after the failure of QB
>lan Wake had the perfect balance between feeling like a tv miniseries and a game
Grayson Diaz
what makes a man lie about playing certain games on the internet?
Sebastian Reyes
They're making a game called Control where you basically play an SCP cleanup agent with superpowers that could be cool.
Nathaniel James
The soundtrack is pretty nice too.

The licensed music will be the ultimate death of this game's commercial availability, though. It was already removed from stores once, and it's back now but the license renewal certainly wasn't permanent.
Charles Barnes

Jeremiah Hernandez
As long as Microsoft are willing to keep throwing money at it, it'll be fine.

This is the only Poe song I've ever heard, but it's fucking good and nobody can change my mind.
Gavin White
can't forget that classic tune that got the game taken off sale for years

Jordan Wright
No. What the fuck? There's no way that shitty song is solely responsible for the game being pulled.
Brody Hall
Well the first game works as a satisfying ending (without dlc). American Nightmare's ending is pretty clear, he got to spend one sunrise with his wife (not sure if real or not) but he is still trapped.
They can continue but a sequel in the dark place wouldn't have the same small town mystery atmosphere. Maybe they can switch protagonists. Someone could investigate what happened to Alan.
Cooper Powell
>Nightingale tried to make sense of the manuscript. It was disjointed and strange. He didn't understand half of it, but it all rang true, impossibly true.
>He took out his hip flask when he reached the page that described how he reached the page that made him take out his hip flask.
>It wasn't the booze that made his mind reel.
Levi Williams
Well you can't expect them to just remove it when the licensing expires, it was really important to set the tone of that diner
Henry Jones
That scene actually pissed me the fuck off because the music is way too quiet. It's barely audible unless you turn up the speakers so high that the dialogue is painful. I don't think it was a matter of changing individual volume levels in the game settings because none of the other music was too quiet. It's not like I actually love the song, but come on. Don't pay royalties for that shit if it's not even going to be loud enough to hear.
Evan King
this needs to happen
Michael Gomez
>forcing you to use the environment to get kills

Brody Gray
>>Game throws hundreds of enemies at you at once
I actually didn't see that line the first time I read the post. user must be confused... unless he's talking about the flocks of birds, but they still probably number in the dozens (not hundreds) even if you count each individual bird as a separate enemy.
Nathaniel Roberts
>not posting the most kino track in the game
for shame
Nicholas Green
oh yeah and the most egregious
>AI makes attempts to ambush you off screen
you get a separate anime face for that
Jacob Wright
Not even that guy but that did tend to happen there was even a dodge button (that was also the sprint button) that slowed down time for a bit in order to avoid that shit. It was especially prevalent on the higher difficulties and made me shit my pants
Leo Bennett
based
Angel Baker
You're very mistaken on this. At least on the higher difficulties, if you're not constantly looking around, the first warning you get of an enemy will be them swinging at you.
Nathaniel Cox
Would anyone happen to have the flac soundtrack?
Particularly the potf/old gods of asgard songs.
My fucking hard drive died a couple months ago, and I wrote off my 100gb Yea Forums folder, but everything else I'm trying to replicate, and this thread just reminded me of that.
Christian Wood
no sorry but my 2 confirms you will replicate it
Noah King
We are talking about the game that pauses and zooms in on the enemies when they appear
stop lying on the internet
Leo Parker
I always figured the sequel would be Alice Wake and it would center around her photography as.
Ethan James
Did you actually beat it on hard? it doesn't always do that.
Brandon Baker
I hope Control is a mega hit for them so Remedy sees success. One of the few devs that makes action games with actually good stories. I even liked Quantum Break despite all the hate.
Josiah Rodriguez
Yeah I did, game still east as shit since you can always pop flares to not die
Unless you're running around like a tard instead of just S+M2 then S+M1ing everything you won't get surprised
Jacob Ross
everything you just said has nothing to do with the conversation.
Isaac Sanders
For fuck's sake.
I was stupidly obsessed with Alan Wake and played through it several times, so trust me on this: You're both half-right. Once per normal enemy encounter, the game will show the positions of all the enemies which just spawned, but certain enemy types will actively try to flank you, and sometimes it simply isn't feasible to fight while also looking in all directions, so it is very easy for an enemy to get behind you. Once an enemy is behind you, it is very easy for that enemy to hit you from off-screen, especially with a projectile weapon. (Some enemies throw knives, et cetera.)
If you think someone is "lying" just because they describe a different aspect of the same shit, or the same shit in a different way, you might be autistic.
Brody Thompson
Feel like replaying Alan Wake now.
Good thing I still have the original game on steam before all the licensing bullshit.
Gabriel Kelly
Fuck you, I liked it.
youtu.be
Charles Bennett
>people actually liked alan wake
lmao I remember playing an being so bored. the story was a comfier silent hill but the combat was so fucking shit. pointless bullet sponge flashlight sponge enemies.
Alexander Ross
go be a pleb somewhere else
Noah Morris
>Alan Wake 2 when?
Never ever, OP, but I think that's maybe for the best.
I've come to realize there's a certain window of opportunity where a game's sequel can still be 'good' because the people who made it still remember what the fuck they were doing and still have the employees on hand to actually make it.
Alan Wake is almost 10 years old, so things are looking grim. I'd rather it be a fond memory and remain a GOOD cult classic than see some shit heel turn it into some modern dogshit Epic exclusive.
Elijah Phillips
People often like things that you don't like. It happens.
Wyatt Morgan
Well it has 90% positive reviews on Steam, and on Metacritic it has an 83 from critics and an 8.0 from users. In your mind, was Alan Wake some massive failure that got all 0/10 reviews? That's just not reality. Alan Wake is obviously not the kind of game you like, and even fans will admit that the combat could have used more variety — but what the game does, it does well.
Christian Diaz
Not soon enough
Ryder Perez
>reviews

Charles Anderson
What are the best mods for Alen Awake?
Jace Wright
I don't know why you would be complaining about the citing of reviews in a discussion about public opinion of a game. But if reviews are bad, then I guess I'll just disregard because it's essentially a short review as well.

It wasn't Microsoft not letting them do a sequel, it was nobody letting them do a sequel. Chances are the same reasons Microsoft said no are the same reason the new guys said no for, plus it's now an old franchise no one is legitimately aching to see again.
